Description
本出願は、参照によりその全体が本明細書に組み込まれている2008年1月22日に出願した「DIFFUSER CONFIGURATION FOR AN IMAGE PROJECTOR,」という名称の米国特許出願第12/017440号の一部継続出願である。
Claims (17)
- 空間光変調器であって、
アレイ型液晶パネル、
偏光ビームスプリッタであって、ソース光を前記アレイ型液晶パネルの平らな反射表面に向けて導くように配向された偏光ビームスプリッタ、
前記偏光ビームスプリッタと前記アレイ型液晶パネルの間に配置された傾斜波長板、及び
前記偏光ビームスプリッタと前記アレイ型液晶パネルの間に配置された収斂レンズであって、前記平らな反射表面で反射した光を前記偏光ビームスプリッタの対向する表面に導くように構成された収斂レンズ
を備えた空間光変調器。 - 請求項1記載の変調器であって、前記傾斜波長板が前記偏光ビームスプリッタと前記収斂レンズの間に配置された変調器。
- 請求項1記載の変調器であって、前記傾斜波長板が前記収斂レンズと前記アレイ型液晶パネルの間に配置された変調器。
- 請求項1記載の変調器であって、前記傾斜波長板が、前記傾斜波長板の平らな外部表面に対して16度から36度までの範囲に及ぶ角度をなす光軸を有し、前記平らな外部表面が、前記反射表面で反射した前記光を受け取るように配置された変調器。
- 請求項1記載の変調器であって、前記傾斜波長板の光軸及び前記傾斜波長板の垂直軸によって画定される前記傾斜波長板の平らな表面が前記変調器の水平面に対して3度から4度までの範囲の角度を有する変調器。
- 請求項1記載の変調器であって、前記ソース光が垂直偏光であり、前記偏光ビームスプリッタが前記垂直偏光を前記液晶パネルに向けて反射するように構成され、前記液晶パネルで反射した水平偏光が前記偏光ビームスプリッタを直線的に透過して画像投影システムの投影光学に到達する変調器。
- 請求項1記載の変調器であって、前記ソース光が水平偏光であり、前記偏光ビームスプリッタが前記水平偏光を前記液晶パネルに向けて前記偏光ビームスプリッタを直線的に透過させるように構成され、前記液晶パネルで反射した垂直偏光が前記偏光ビームスプリッタで反射して画像投影システムの投影光学に到達する変調器。
- 光学画像投影システムであって、
ソース光を放出するように構成された光源、
前記ソース光を受け取るべく光結合された空間光変調器であって、
アレイ型液晶パネル、
偏光ビームスプリッタであって、前記ソース光を前記アレイ型液晶パネルの平らな反射表面に向けて導くように配向された偏光ビームスプリッタ、
前記偏光ビームスプリッタと前記アレイ型液晶パネルの間に配置された傾斜波長板、及び
前記偏光ビームスプリッタと前記アレイ型液晶パネルの間に配置された収斂レンズであって、前記平らな反射表面で反射した前記光を前記偏光ビームスプリッタの対向する表面に導くように構成された収斂レンズ
を備えた空間光変調器、並びに
前記偏光ビームスプリッタから出力される光を受け取るように構成された投影光学
を備えた光学画像投影システム。 - 請求項8記載のシステムであって、前記システムがハンドヘルド投影システムとして構成されたシステム。
- 画像を投影する方法であって、
ソース光ビームを偏光ビームスプリッタを介してアレイ型液晶パネルの平らな反射表面に向けて導くステップであって、前記偏光ビームスプリッタが前記平らな反射表面と対向する平らな表面を有するステップ、
前記アレイ型液晶パネルの第1及び第2のセットの液晶ピクセルで前記ソース光を反射させるステップであって、前記第1及び第2のセットの液晶ピクセルによって反射光の偏光状態が異なる偏光状態になるステップ、
前記反射光を収斂レンズに通過させるステップ、及び
前記反射光を傾斜波長板に通過させるステップ
を備える方法。 - 請求項1記載の変調器において、前記偏光ビームスプリッタと前記アレイ型液晶パネルの間の前記傾斜波長板の位置が、該アレイ型液晶パネルの非活性化ピクセルでの反射による偏光変化が補償されるように調整される、変調器。
- 請求項1記載の変調器において、前記傾斜波長板が光学的に異方性の媒体からなる、変調器。
- 請求項8記載のシステムにおいて、前記偏光ビームスプリッタと前記アレイ型液晶パネルの間の前記傾斜波長板の位置が、該アレイ型液晶パネルの非活性化ピクセルでの反射による偏光変化が補償されるように調整される、システム。
- 請求項8記載のシステムにおいて、前記傾斜波長板が光学的に異方性の媒体からなる、システム。
- 請求項10の方法において、前記反射光を傾斜波長板に通過させるステップが、前記アレイ型液晶パネルの非活性化ピクセルでの反射による偏光変化を補償するものである、方法。
- 請求項10記載の方法において、さらに、前記傾斜波長板の垂直軸に関して前記傾斜波長板の平らな表面を回転させて、前記傾斜波長板の光軸と前記垂直軸の間の角度を画定し、前記角度が水平面に対して3度から4度までの範囲である、方法。
- 請求項10記載の方法において、前記傾斜波長板が光学的に異方性の媒体からなる、方法。
