Description
The present invention relates to an internal combustion engine cooling system failure diagnosis device and a failure diagnosis method for determining a failure in a cooling system of a water-cooled internal combustion engine.
In general, in a water-cooled internal combustion engine, in order to prevent an excessive increase in temperature of the internal combustion engine, a cooling water passage, a water pump for circulating the cooling water, and the raised cooling water are radiated to the atmosphere. A radiator and a thermostat for opening and closing the water channel of the cooling water flowing to the radiator according to the cooling water temperature are provided.
That is, when the cooling water temperature is lower than a predetermined value (usually 75 ° C.) immediately after starting the internal combustion engine or during warm-up operation, the thermostat is closed, while when the cooling water temperature is higher than the predetermined value, the thermostat is The valve is opened, and the cooling water is circulated between the internal combustion engine and the radiator.
Further, the radiator dissipates the heat of the cooling water to the atmosphere by means of the vehicle running wind and the means for cooling the radiator (radiator fan) to prevent the cooling water from excessively rising (overheating).
In addition to a system for driving the cooling water from the output shaft of the internal combustion engine, there is an electric pump that controls the cooling flow rate as required.
If the above-mentioned components of the cooling system of the internal combustion engine fail, for example, if a failure occurs in which the water pump or the radiator fan is fixed in a stopped state, the cooling water temperature rises excessively and the internal combustion engine may be damaged. .
On the other hand, if a failure occurs in which the water pump or radiator fan is fixed in the start-up state or a failure occurs in which the thermostat is fixed in the valve-open state, the cooling water temperature does not reach or reaches the reference temperature. Therefore, the temperature rise of the cooling water of the internal combustion engine may be hindered, leading to deterioration of fuel consumption, increase of exhaust emission, and deterioration of the heater performance of the vehicle.
Therefore, as a technique for determining a failure in the cooling system, for example, a failure diagnosis of an open failure in which the thermostat remains open is proposed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2000-320389 (Patent Document 1). In the failure diagnosis of the above publication, when the fuel consumption from the start of the engine is equal to or greater than a predetermined amount, the thermostat is determined to be defective when the rise in the coolant temperature is small.
Further, the present inventors have determined that the cooling system has failed based on the rate of water temperature rise when the radiator fan is started below the thermostat open set temperature, so that the operating mode in which the rate of temperature rise of the cooling water in the internal combustion engine is fast. (For example, even when the cooling water temperature at the start is high. The vehicle speed is low and the traveling wind does not sufficiently hit the radiator), a method for performing stable failure determination has been proposed.
Each of the above-described conventional inventions is a technique for determining a failure based on the change rate of the cooling water temperature during operation of the internal combustion engine. Accurate determination is possible due to the heat generation state due to the load of the internal combustion engine, the influence of traveling wind, etc. It was difficult.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and its object is to provide a stable failure determination that is not affected by the operating state of the internal combustion engine and to identify the content of the failure. It is to provide a failure diagnosis apparatus.
The present invention relates to a water pump for circulating cooling water for cooling a water-cooled internal combustion engine, a thermostat for opening and closing a water passage for cooling water flowing through the radiator, and a radiator fan for promoting heat dissipation of the radiator And a water temperature sensor for measuring the temperature of the cooling water, wherein the thermostat is in a valve-open state after the start of the internal combustion engine and the water pump. When the change in water temperature in the state in which the radiator fan is activated is smaller than a predetermined value, the
As described above, it is possible to eliminate the influence of the heat generation state of the internal combustion engine, traveling wind, and the like by determining the failure based on the temperature change of the cooling water when the water pump, the radiator fan, and the thermostat are operated.
Furthermore, another invention related to the present invention has the following features.
During operation of the internal combustion engine, the water pump and the radiator fan are started, and the failure of the water pump, the radiator fan, and the thermostat is determined based on the change rate of the cooling water temperature at that time.
When the water pump and the radiator fan are stopped during the operation of the internal combustion engine, the circulation of the cooling water and the cooling by the radiator fan are lost, and depending on the operating state, only the cooling by the traveling wind is performed, and the cooling water temperature rises for a certain period.
Here, when the water pump and the radiator fan are started again, if the cooling water temperature does not drop, it is possible that the water pump or the radiator fan cannot be started in the stopped state and the stop state is fixed.
On the other hand, if the cooling water temperature significantly decreases during the operation of the internal combustion engine, it is possible that the water pump or the radiator fan cannot be stopped in the activated state.
Further, when the water pump and the radiator fan are started from a stopped state, the cooling water temperature is usually lowered due to heat radiation from the radiator. However, when the cooling water temperature decrease is small, it is possible that the water pump or the radiator fan is fixed in a stopped state where it cannot be started or that the performance is degraded.
If it is determined that the water pump or radiator fan cannot be stopped, it is determined that the failure is fixed in the starting state, and the operation for determining the failure of the performance degradation of the water pump and radiator fan cannot be performed normally. Like that.
Furthermore, if it is determined that the performance of the water pump and radiator fan has deteriorated, the malfunction of the thermostat cannot be determined normally because the cooling water circulation and the heat radiation from the radiator do not function sufficiently. Prohibit diagnosis.
According to the present invention, the diagnosis of the water pump, the radiator fan, and the thermostat can be performed without being affected by the operation state of the internal combustion engine by performing the diagnosis of the
