Description
本発明は、一般に、装置の入口端部に向かって全て配置された電気導線と流体接続を有し、制御された温度プロファイルの毛細状通路を備えるエアゾール発生器などの流体蒸発装置に関する。
エアゾール発生装置は、米国特許第4,811,731号及び同4,627,432号に開示されたような、患者に薬物を投与するための装置を含む。開示された薬物投与用の装置では、カプセルをピンに刺し、パワーが与えられた形態で薬物を放出する。次いで、ユーザは、装置の開口部を通して放出される薬物を飲み込む。そのような装置は、パワーが与えられた形態で薬物を供給する用途には容認できるものの、流体の形態で薬物を供給には適していない。また、そのような装置は、喘息患者のように、装置を通して薬物を飲み込むのに十分な空気の流れを作り出すことが困難な人に対し、薬物を供給するには、あまり適していない。
本発明の例示的な実施の形態に係る流体蒸発装置は、同心円状で導電性の2つのチューブを備え、前記チューブは、前記チューブの遠位端部又は出口端部の側の遠位部分に電気的かつ物理的に接続され、前記チューブの各々は、前記チューブの近位端部又は入口端部の側に、電源に対する電気的な接続部を有する。前記同心円状のチューブのうち内側のチューブの入口端部は、流体源と流体の伝達がある。内側のチューブと外側のチューブとの間には空隙が設けられ、外側のチューブ、2つのチューブの遠位部分で外側のチューブと内側のチューブとの間のろう付けされた又は溶接された接続部、及び内側のチューブを通して電流が流れる。
本発明は、流体蒸発装置及びこの装置を用いて蒸気を発生させる方法を提供する。本装置は、医療用途における携帯用吸入器(hand-held inhaler)又は自動車内部のアプリケーション用の燃料噴射装置などに多種多様な構造及びサイズで提供されうる。同心円状の2つのチューブには、内側のチューブを通過する流体と、内側と外側のチューブの間に形成された空隙と、外側と内側のチューブを通して直列で流れる電流と、が含まれる。
本発明の好適な実施形態に係る種々の形態(feature)と利点は、添付図面と併せて明細書を読むことにより当業者に明らかとなるであろう。
Claims (6)
- 内側のチューブと外側のチューブとを備え、
前記内側のチューブと前記外側のチューブとは、同心円状かつ導電性で前記内側のチューブに供給された液体を蒸発するのに充分な熱を生成する電気抵抗を有する材料から作成され、
前記内側のチューブと前記外側のチューブとは、前記内側のチューブと前記外側のチューブとの間に空隙を形成するように配置され、
前記内側のチューブの遠位部分と前記外側のチューブの遠位部分とは互いに電気的かつ物理的に接続され、
前記内側のチューブの近位部分と前記外側のチューブの近位部分とは、電源に接続されるよう構成された電気的な接続部をそれぞれ有し、
前記内側のチューブの近位端部は、液体源から前記液体を受け入れるように構成される、
ことを特徴とする流体蒸発装置。 - 前記内側のチューブと前記外側のチューブとは、互いにろう付けされるか又は前記内側のチューブの前記遠位部分と前記外側のチューブの前記遠位部分で環状接続部材にろう付けされ、
前記内側のチューブは、前記外側のチューブの前記遠位端部を越えて突き出しており、
前記電気的な接続部は、前記内側のチューブの前記近位部分及び前記外側のチューブの前記近位部分にろう付けされている、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の流体蒸発装置。 - 前記内側のチューブは、約0.01016cm(0.004インチ)から0.635cm(0.25インチ)までの範囲の内径を有し、
前記内側のチューブの肉厚が約0.00254cm(0.001インチ)から0.0127cm(0.005インチ)までの範囲にあり、
前記外側のチューブは、約0.03556cm(0.014インチ)から1.27cm(0.500インチ)までの範囲の内径を有し、
前記外側のチューブの肉厚が約0.00508cm(0.002インチ)から0.0254cm(0.010インチ)までの範囲にあり、
前記内側のチューブ及び前記外側のチューブは、ステンレス鋼から作られる、
ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の流体蒸発装置。 - 前記液体を含み、前記内側のチューブの流れ通路と流体の伝達がなされる槽と、
前記電気的な接続部に接続された電源と、
をさらに備える、ことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の流体蒸発装置。 - 請求項1に記載の流体蒸発装置を用いて、流体を蒸発させる方法であって、
前記内側のチューブを通して前記液体を流す工程と、
前記内側のチューブと前記外側のチューブとを通して直列に直流電流を流すことによって前記内側のチューブを流れる前記液体を蒸発させるのに十分な温度まで前記内側のチューブと前記外側のチューブとを加熱する工程と、
を含むことを特徴とする流体蒸発方法。 - 前記内側のチューブと前記外側のチューブとを加熱する間に、前記外側のチューブの前記電気抵抗によって発生した熱は、前記内側のチューブと前記外側のチューブとの間の前記空隙を通して伝達され、前記内側のチューブをさらに加熱する、ことを特徴とする請求項5に記載の流体蒸発方法。
