製本工程においては、所定枚数積層した用紙の背面を揃えてから糊付けして無線綴じを行ない、更に表紙を接着して冊子を形成する場合がある。このようにして形成された冊子は、断裁機に設けた小口刃により小口を断裁して端面を切り揃え、次工程に移送される。

上記目的は、外壁に囲まれた筐体内に、小口を先頭にして搬入された冊子の小口および天・地部の三方を切り揃える断裁刃を有する断裁部と前記断裁部に小口を先頭にして搬入する冊子の小口を揃える揺動する小口揃え板を具えた小口揃え装置を配置した小口揃え部とを有し、前記小口揃え部を囲む外壁を開閉自在としてなる断裁装置において、前記小口揃え部から前記断裁部へ搬送する冊子搬送路の両側の側部に上方に延びる固定枠を設置し、その固定枠に、前記搬送路の上方で該搬送路を横切るレールを固定した取付け板を固定し、前記取付け板のレールに前記小口揃え装置を摺動自在に保持構成とすることにより達成される。
