Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a display device having an image capturing function.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The liquid crystal display device includes an array substrate on which signal lines, scanning lines, and pixel TFTs are arranged, and a drive circuit that drives the signal lines and the scanning lines. With the recent progress and development of integrated circuit technology, a process technology for forming a part of a drive circuit on an array substrate has been put into practical use. As a result, the entire liquid crystal display device can be made light and thin, and it is widely used as a display device for various portable devices such as mobile phones and notebook computers.
[0003]
By the way, there has been proposed a display device in which a contact area sensor that captures an image is arranged on an array substrate (see JP 2001-292276 A and JP 2001-339640 A).
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, this type of conventional display device is provided with one photodiode for each pixel, and the resolution of the scanner is low, so the image is rough and impractical.
[0005]
In addition, it is technically difficult to make the electrical characteristics uniform in the polysilicon TFT widely used as a driving TFT for a liquid crystal display device, and it is difficult to A / D convert the sensor output with high accuracy. .
[0006]
In addition, since the distance between the paper surface that is the target of image capture and the sensor is 1.1 mm, which is the sum of the glass thickness of 0.7 mm and the optical film thickness of 0.4 mm, diffused light on the paper surface enters the adjacent sensor, causing noise. Cause.
[0007]
The present invention has been made in view of these points, and an object of the present invention is to provide a display device capable of capturing images with high resolution and high accuracy.
[0008]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to one aspect of the present invention, display elements formed in the vicinity of intersections of signal lines and scanning lines arranged in rows and columns,
A plurality of photoelectric conversion units provided corresponding to each of the display elements, each receiving incident light in a different range and converting it into an electrical signal;
Charges corresponding to the converted electrical signals on all the photoelectric conversion unit corresponding to the same of the display device, and a charge storage section for storing alternately for the respective photoelectric conversion portions,
The photoelectric conversion unit is a photodiode formed using polysilicon,
A display device is provided in which the display element is a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) formed using polysilicon.

In Type-C, a charge is accumulated by passing a current from the photodiode D1 receiving light to the capacitor C3, and when the light is not received, the charge is slowly leaked from the capacitor C3 via the bias transistor Q7. .

(Second Embodiment)
In the second embodiment, a detection circuit that performs A / D conversion is provided instead of a buffer.
[0048]
FIG. 13 is a block diagram showing a schematic configuration of the second embodiment of the display device. The display device of FIG. 13 includes a
[0049]
With the configuration as shown in FIG. 13, the number of elements in the pixel is reduced. In a display device that includes a light source on the back and controls a display element in each pixel to control brightness and darkness of each pixel as in a transmissive liquid crystal display device, the ratio of the area of the pixel opening (aperture ratio) And the luminance of the light source can be made relatively low, so that the power consumed by the light source can be reduced.
[0050]
Also, when considering the operation as a contact sensor, the light from the light source is not blocked by the elements in the pixel so much and effectively reaches and reflects the imaging target, so that the brightness of the light source is relatively low even during sensor operation. The power consumption consumed by the light source can be reduced.
[0051]
If no buffer is provided in the pixel, the sensor signal must be transmitted to the A / D conversion circuit provided in the frame portion via the detection line. The capacitance of the sensor output holding capacitor C3 provided in the pixel is about 1 pF at the maximum due to the restriction of the aperture ratio and the like. In the case of a display device, the capacitance Cout of the detection line is a pixel electrode or other elements / wiring electrodes. And about 20 pF (in the case of 4 "QVGA).
[0052]
If 5V is temporarily stored in the 1 pF capacitor in the pixel, the amplitude becomes very weak as soon as it is led to the capacitance Cout of the 20 pF detection line. The magnitude is about C3 / (C3 + Cout) of the original signal amplitude so that it can be easily estimated by the law of conservation of charge. In this case, it is estimated that 1 [pF] / (1 [pF] +20 [pF]) and a small amplitude less than 5% of the original signal amplitude. Therefore, it is necessary for the A / D conversion circuit in the frame portion to be able to amplify a minute potential difference into a clear potential difference.
[0053]
However, unlike the case of a transistor circuit formed on a silicon substrate, an LTPS element (Low Temperature Poly-Si element) formed on an insulating substrate using a low-temperature polysilicon process has a device characteristic even on the same chip. Vth variation may be about 1V. Therefore, a differential circuit (op-amp) often used in an A / D conversion circuit on a silicon substrate cannot be used as it is, and an A / D conversion circuit having a compensation means for Vth variation is required. This is because when an operational amplifier is normally used, a certain sensor output potential is converted to a high level by a certain detection circuit and converted to a low level by another detection circuit due to variations in the Vth of the element, which is not practical. .
[0054]
In the following, a detection circuit including an A / D conversion circuit having a Vth variation compensating means that is particularly effective when an LTPS element is used to be integrally formed on an array substrate of a display device will be described.
[0055]
FIG. 14 is a circuit diagram showing a detailed configuration of the
[0056]
The signal / PRC is input to the gates of the transistors Q7, and the signal PRC is input to the gates of the transistors Q8. First, the signal PRC is set to a high level for a predetermined period. Thereby, the transistor Q8 is turned on, and the input terminal of the
[0057]
Next, when the signal / PRC is set to the high level (the signal PRC is set to the low level), whether or not the voltage of the detection line is higher than the voltage VPRC is directly applied to the input terminal of the inverter IV1 via the capacitor element C4 with respect to the operation threshold value. Thus, an inverted amplified output is reliably output to the output terminal of the inverter IV1. In this way, A / D conversion is reliably performed even when the Vth variation is about 1V.

Although the example in which the
[0064]
That is, in the case of a display device, the detection line is capacitively coupled with the display pixel electrode or the like as described above, and thus becomes a large buffer driving load. The power consumption for driving the detection line can be expressed as Cout × fout × Va × Va, where Cout is the capacitance of the detection line, fout is the frequency at which the detection line is driven, and Va is the amplitude of the detection line. Therefore, reducing Va to such an extent that the detection circuit can discriminate is effective in reducing power consumption. For example, when driving the detection line with 5 V amplitude, when driving with 1 V amplitude, the power consumption for driving the detection line of the buffer unit is reduced to 1/25.
[0065]
In FIG. 13 described above, the example in which the

[0067]
One of the transistors Q11 and Q12 in the detection line selection circuit is turned on by the logic of the signal KIR and supplies one of the signals on the two detection lines to the transistor Q7.
[0068]
Thus, by sharing the same detection circuit 41a with a plurality of detection lines, the number of detection circuits 41a can be reduced, and the occupied area of the frame portion and the power consumption can be reduced.
[0069]
Note that the same detection circuit may be shared by three or more detection lines. As the number of detection lines sharing the same detection circuit increases, the area occupied by the detection circuit and power consumption can be reduced.
[0070]
In the embodiment described above, the detection circuit of the contact sensor integrated display device that photoelectrically converts the reflected light of the imaging object into the leakage current of the element on the array substrate such as a photodiode has been described. Even if it does not use, it can be similarly applied. For example, it is also effective as a sensor detection circuit in which the drain-source electrode of the TFT element is set to an appropriate potential, and whether a finger or the like approaches the gate electrode is converted into a drain-source current.
[0071]
【The invention's effect】
