【0035】
Tmin<T2<Tmax

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a dot impact printer, and more particularly to a head drive circuit of a dot impact printer and a power supply control technique for controlling a power supply for the head drive circuit.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, in a dot impact printer, by reducing the power consumption of a head driver transistor (hereinafter referred to as “driver TR”), the print head can be driven efficiently, thereby reducing the size of the head drive power supply device. Several proposals have been made for the purpose of illustration. In one of the above proposals, the voltage generated by the induced electromotive force generated in the head coil due to the turn-off of the driver TR is dropped to a substantially power supply voltage by the constant voltage drop circuit, and the power substantially corresponding to the power supply voltage is supplied to the head. A technique for returning to a driving power source and reusing it is disclosed (for example, see Patent Document 1). Another proposal is that the voltage generated by the induced electromotive force generated in the head coil due to the turn-off of the driver TR is the connection point between the head coil and the driver TR on the input side and the connection point between the head coil and the drive power source on the output side. , Each of them is clamped to a constant voltage by a DC / DC converter connected thereto, and then converted into a power supply voltage. A technique is disclosed in which power substantially equivalent to the power supply voltage is returned to the head drive power supply and reused (see, for example, Patent Document 2).

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, in the dot impact printer, if the voltage of the induced electromotive force generated in the head coil due to the turn-off of the driver TR is too low, it takes a relatively long time for the voltage to drop to the power supply voltage. When a needle pin (hereinafter referred to as a “pin”) that is projected from the position toward the ink ribbon is returned to the home position by the spring mechanism, the responsiveness deteriorates or the pin breaks in some cases. Such problems arise. On the contrary, if the voltage of the induced electromotive force is too high, the voltage drops to the power supply voltage in a relatively short time, but is connected to the head drive circuit by applying the high voltage. There is a risk of power transistor damage.
[0003]
Therefore, in the constant voltage drop circuit according to the first proposal and the DC / DC converter according to the second proposal, which have a function as a regenerative circuit, the responsiveness in the return operation of the protruding pin and the breakage of the pin In consideration of the withstand voltage of the power transistor and the like, the circuit configuration is set so that the voltage of the induced electromotive force generated in the head coil falls within a predetermined voltage range.
[0004]
However, in the past, even if some abnormality (failure) occurs in the constant voltage drop circuit having a function as the above-described regenerative circuit or the DC / DC converter, the abnormality (failure) that has occurred is detected. No means are provided. Therefore, if an abnormality (failure) occurs in the constant voltage drop circuit or the DC / DC converter, the responsiveness when the pin returns to the home position deteriorates, the pin breaks, or the power transistor, etc. There was a problem that it was not possible to prevent problems that caused damage.
[0005]
Accordingly, a first object of the present invention is to detect an abnormality (failure) occurring in the regenerative circuit in a head drive circuit of a dot impact printer, thereby deteriorating responsiveness when the pin returns to the home position, It is possible to prevent the breakage of the power switching element and the destruction of the power switching element.
[0006]
A second object of the present invention is to make it possible to detect a location where an abnormality (failure) has occurred when some abnormality (failure) occurs in the head drive circuit of a dot impact printer. It is in.
[0007]
In the impact printer head drive circuit according to the first aspect of the present invention, the head coil for driving each of the plurality of pins provided in the print head and the power supply voltage of the head drive power supply are ON / OFF controlled. A head driver switching element that is applied to the head coil only for a predetermined time, a return means that returns an induced electromotive voltage generated in the head coil when the head driver switching element is turned off to the head driving power source, and The induced electromotive voltage generated in the head coil when the head driver switching element is turned off is at least a first voltage higher than the power supply voltage, a second voltage higher than the first voltage, and a first voltage substantially equal to the power supply voltage. Detection means for comparing with the voltage of 3 and a time measurement means. The issued the induced electromotive voltage, is lower than the first voltage, or when higher than the second voltage, or time, higher than the third voltage measured by said time measuring means,The measured time is set according to the measurement time, including the measurement time when all the pins of the print head are driven simultaneously.Predetermined timeIs out of rangeWhen it is determined that the return means is abnormal, the induced electromotive voltage detected by the detection means is within a range between the first voltage and the second voltage, and the third voltage Measure the time higher than the voltage with the above time measuring means,The measured time isWhen the time is within a predetermined time range, it is determined that the return means is normal.
[0008]
The head drive circuit of the impact printer according to the second aspect of the present invention is ON / OFF controlled for the head coil for driving each of the plurality of pins provided in the print head and the power supply voltage of the head drive power supply. Detecting means for comparing with the voltage of 3 and a time measuring means. The ON / OFF control is performed so that the plurality of pins are driven individually or in groups, and the induced electromotive voltage detected by the detection unit is lower than the first voltage, or the second When the voltage is higher than the voltage or the time higher than the third voltage is measured by the time measuring means,The measured time is set according to the measurement time, including the measurement time when all the pins of the print head are driven simultaneously.Predetermined timeIs out of rangeWhen it is determined that an abnormality has occurred, the induced electromotive voltage detected by the detecting means is within a range between the first voltage and the second voltage, and is higher than the third voltage. Time is measured by the time measuring means, and when the measured time is within the predetermined time range, it is determined that the return means is normal, and the abnormality isIf it occurs at all the pins, it is determined that the return means is abnormalImpact printer head drive circuit.
[0009]
In a preferred embodiment according to the first or second aspect of the present invention, the return means includes a semiconductor switching element, and the induced electromotive voltage generated in the head coil through the semiconductor switching element is used for driving the head. Return to power.
[0010]
In an embodiment different from the above, the return means includes a DC / DC converter, and returns the induced electromotive voltage generated in the head coil through the DC / DC converter to the head driving power source. In another embodiment different from the above, the impact printer has the head drive circuit described above.
