従来からこの種の密封装置として、例えば図3に示す密封装置1が知られており、この密封装置1は、筒部3の一端にフランジ部4を設けた相手摺動部材である金属製スリンガー2と、このスリンガー2の筒部3の取付面3aならびにフランジ部4の外側端面4aおよび先端周面4bに接合されたゴム状弾性体5と、スリンガー2の筒部3の周面3bおよびフランジ部4の内側端面4cに摺動自在に密接する複数のシールリップ7,8,9,10を備えたリップシール6とを有している。

上記目的を達成するため、本発明の密封装置は、筒部の一端にフランジ部を設けた相手摺動部材と、前記筒部の取付面ならびに前記フランジ部の外側端面および先端周面に接合されたゴム状弾性体と、前記フランジ部の内側端面に摺動自在に密接するシールリップとを有し、前記フランジ部の内側端面は製造工程で切削加工されている密封装置において、前記フランジ部の内側端面に環状の段差部を設けて一部の内側端面を、前記フランジ部の先端周面に接合したゴム状弾性体よりも軸方向に突出させ、この突出した一部の内側端面のみを切削加工してなることを特徴とするものである。
