【発明の属する技術分野】
IP(インターネットプロトコル)ネットワーク経由でFAX送受信中には一般公衆回線経由での一般電話端末への発着信を可能とし、同様に、IPネットワーク経由で通話中には一般公衆回線経由でFAX送受信を可能とするような自動切替え機能を有することを特徴とした、インターネットFAX/電話アダプタ装置に関するものである。

【従来の技術】
図16は、インターネットFAX/電話アダプタの一例を示す。図16は、従来のアダプタ20pを示すシステムの全体構成図の一例である。
図16において、1はCPU、2はオペレーティング・システム、プログラム等を格納するメモリ、メモリ2に登録されている電話番号は、LAN(Local Area Network)経由で通話可能な電話番号である。3はインターネットプロトコルネットワーク(以下、「IPネットワーク」という)とアダプタ20pを接続するIPネットワークI/F(Inter Face)、5pは一般電話端末または一般FAX端末とアダプタ20pを接続する電話/FAX端末I/F、4は一般公衆回線とアダプタ20pを接続する公衆回線I/Fである。

次に、動作について説明する。
セレクタ13pは、通常、待ち受け時には、電話/FAX端末I/F5pと公衆回線I/F4が接続されている。電話端末I/F4に接続された電話端末から、発信を行ない通話をする場合、まず、発呼された電話端末からの電話番号と、予めメモリ2に登録された電話番号とを比較する。
比較の結果、今回発信に使用された電話番号がメモリ2に登録された電話番号と一致しなかった場合、セレクタ13pにより電話端末は公衆回線に接続されているので、公衆回線を通して発信、呼び出しが行われ、公衆回線経由での通話が可能となる。

次に、発呼された電話番号がLAN経由で通話可能な番号であった場合、つまり、メモリ2に登録された電話番号と一致した場合は、まず、セレクタ13pを電話端末I/F4とアナログI/F8との接続状態に切替える。
その後、IPネットワークI/F3に接続されたIPネットワーク経由での通話を可能とするために、LANコントローラ7を制御し、通信を確立する。
メモリ2内には、電話番号に対応するIPアドレスが登録されており、相手先IPアドレスに存在するもう一台のアダプタ20pとの間で通信が確立される。
この後、アダプタ20pから相手方アダプタに対して発呼要求が出される。

発呼要求を受けた相手方アダプタでは、その相手方アダプタの電話端末I/F4に接続された電話端末が未通話状態であることをオンフック状態であることにより確認し、アナログI/F8を制御して、電話端末に対してRINGを発信し、電話端末を呼び出す。
相手方電話端末の受話器が取られたことを、オフフック信号を受信することで検出した相手方アダプタは、本アダプタに対し通話可能であることを通知し、通話可能状態が確立される。

以後、アダプタ20pに接続された電話端末からの音声信号は、アナログI/F8で2線/4線変換を受け、コーデック10でデジタル化され、DSP12により圧縮等の信号処理を受け、LANコントローラ7からIPネットワークを通して、相手方アダプタに送られる。
相手方アダプタでは、上記の処理と逆の流れにより、デジタルデータからアナログ音声に復調され、電話端末より音声が発生される。
また、音声の送信と受信は順次処理され、双方向通話を可能とする。

以上、電話端末による音声通話について説明したが、FAX送受信についても、同様の手順にて、公衆回線またはIPネットワーク経由でFAX送受信が行われる。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
従来の機器は以上のように構成されているため、IPネットワーク経由で通話またはFAX送受信中は公衆回線が未使用であるにもかかわらず、また、公衆回線経由で通話またはFAX送受信中にはIPネットワークが未使用であるにもかかわらず、同時に使用することができないという問題が発生し、通信回線を有効に使用することができなかった。

従来の機器を使用して、この問題を解決しようとすると、例えば、機器に電話端末とIPネットワークのみ接続し、公衆回線にFAXをつなぐことで解決できるが、この接続では公衆回線による通話と、IPネットワーク経由でのFAX送受信ができなくなる、または、人手によって接続をつなぎ変えなければならないなどの新たな問題が発生し、ユーザに不便をかけてしまう。

さらに、上記の問題をも従来の機器で解決しようとすると、2台の機器を用意して、1台に電話端末を、1台にFAXを接続し、IPネットワークと公衆回線をそれぞれに同時に接続することで解決できるが、2台のアダプタを使用することとなり、コストの増大を招くという問題が発生する。

この発明は、上記のような問題点を解消するためになされたもので、一般電話端末及び一般FAX端末を1系統づつ接続可能で、それぞれの音声通話、あるいは、FAX送受信を、公衆回線経由またはIPネットワーク経由で実現可能なことに加え、電話端末によりIPネットワーク経由で通話中に、同時に、公衆回線経由によりFAX送受信を可能とし、あるいは、FAX端末によりIPネットワーク経由でFAX送受信の実行中に、同時に、公衆回線経由で音声通話を可能とすることのできるインターネットFAX/電話アダプタを得ることを目的としている。
