Description
【0001】
【0017】
B ∝ A*(X/Y) (式2)
【0018】
【0037】
図4は液晶パネルA(図1中19,22,28)、入射側偏光板B(図1中281,221,191)、出射側偏光板C(図1中282,222,192)が取付られた状態の断面を示しており、液晶パネルAは液晶パネル取付板43により支持されている。
【0038】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a liquid crystal projector having a liquid crystal panel and a polarizing plate and projecting light transmitted through the liquid crystal panel and the deflecting plate.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Liquid crystal projectors are widely used as projection display devices. This liquid crystal projector emits light modulated from the liquid crystal panel by irradiating light from the light source onto the transmissive liquid crystal panel and driving the liquid crystal panel based on information signals from a television signal or a personal computer, The enlarged image is projected onto the screen through the projection lens.
[0003]
As the light source, a halogen lamp or the like is used because a very high-intensity lamp is required. While the lamp is lit, the temperature of the lamp becomes very high due to the heat generated by the lamp. Therefore, a cooling fan is used to send cooling air around the lamp and the liquid crystal panel using a blower fan.

Polarizers are arranged on the incident side and the exit side of the liquid crystal panel, and these polarizers are made of polycarbonate, so when transmitting light from the lamp, the light that cannot be transmitted is converted into thermal energy and the temperature rises. Therefore, the polarizing plate must be cooled together with the liquid crystal panel.
[0005]
By the way, the cooling rate of the polarizing plate and the liquid crystal panel is determined by the amount of heat in which each light is converted into heat energy, that is, the amount of light loss. The optical loss is determined by the aperture ratio of the liquid crystal panel, the efficiency of parallel conversion for converting the P wave from the light source to S wave (or S wave to P wave), the transmittance of the polarizing plate, etc. Since these conditions differ depending on the model, the cooling rate of the polarizing plate and the liquid crystal panel varies depending on the model.
[0006]
In order to efficiently cool the polarizing plate and the liquid crystal panel, there is a device provided with a wind direction plate that optimizes the direction of the air blown from a cooling fan in an apparatus disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 11-295814.
[0007]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-318361 discloses a device for adjusting the flow of cooling air by providing a holding frame for holding a liquid crystal panel with a protrusion for guiding the flow of cooling air.
[0008]
As described above, there are various techniques for efficiently cooling the polarizing plate and the liquid crystal panel. However, from customers who want to use the liquid crystal projector in a bright room or project a large image on the screen. According to demand, the brightness of the lamp is increased year by year, and it is necessary to improve the cooling ability of the polarizing plate and the liquid crystal panel as the brightness of the lamp increases.
[0009]
Here, in increasing the brightness of the liquid crystal data projector, it is particularly difficult to cool the liquid crystal panel / polarizing plate, and the relationship between the wind speed and the air volume for this cooling is expressed by the following equation (1).
[0010]
Wind speed = Air volume / Cross-sectional area of wind path (Formula 1)
[0011]
From the above (Equation 1), high brightness has been achieved by increasing the cooling air flow, such as employing a larger fan or a plurality of fans.
[0012]
However, if a large fan is used to increase the brightness, or if multiple fans are used to increase the cooling air flow, the product itself becomes larger and the weight increases. There are disadvantages such as an increase in the amount of dust adhering to the section and an increase in wind noise generated when cooling air passes through the intake filter.
[0013]
On the other hand, it is also conceivable to compensate for the heat generation amount that increases with the increase in brightness by increasing the wind speed of the air that cools the liquid crystal panel / polarizing plate.
[0014]
That is, from (Equation 1) described above, the wind speed is increased by reducing the cross-sectional area of the air passage, that is, by reducing the interval between the liquid crystal panel, polarizing plate, prism, etc., and reducing the air passage width through which the cooling air passes. Theoretically, an effect equivalent to an increase in air volume can be obtained. At the same time, no problems occur when the cooling air volume is increased.
[0015]
However, in order to reduce the cross-sectional area of the air passage, when the intervals between the incident side polarizing plate, the liquid crystal panel, and the outgoing side polarizing plate are narrowed, the holding frame for attaching the liquid crystal panel and the incident side polarizing plate or the outgoing side The distance from the polarizing plate is also reduced.
[0016]
When the distance between the liquid crystal panel and the output side polarizing plate is Y, the distance between the holding frame and the output side polarizing plate is X, and the wind speed of the cooling air sent between the holding frame and the output side polarizing plate is A, the liquid crystal panel The wind speed B of the cooling air flowing between the light source and the output side polarizing plate is as follows.
[0017]
B A A * (X / Y) (Formula 2)
[0018]
That is, the mounting frame of the liquid crystal panel and the output side polarizing plate interfere with each other, and the air path width is reduced only at that portion. Therefore, if the distance Y between the liquid crystal panel and the output side polarizing plate is reduced, the holding frame and the output side polarizing plate The distance X is also reduced, and the wind speed B of the cooling air flowing between the liquid crystal panel and the exit side polarizing plate is lowered.
[0019]
Conversely, if the distance Y between the liquid crystal panel and the output side polarizing plate is sufficiently wide, X / Y will be close to “1”, so the wind speed B will be close to the wind speed A and the cooling loss will be reduced. Sex comes out. Therefore, in the conventional structure, it is difficult to reduce the cross-sectional area of the air passage by narrowing the distance between the liquid crystal panel and the polarizing plate and increase the air speed of the cooling air. Could not cope with the high brightness of the lamp.
[0020]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The present invention has been made in view of the fact that in the conventional liquid crystal projector described above, the air velocity of the cooling air cannot be increased even if the distance between the liquid crystal panel and the polarizing plate is reduced and the cross-sectional area of the air passage is reduced. Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a liquid crystal projector in which the wind speed of cooling air does not decrease even when the interval between the liquid crystal panel and the polarizing plate is narrowed.
[0021]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention relates to a liquid crystal projector that projects light transmitted through a liquid crystal panel and a polarizing plate, and is disposed opposite to the liquid crystal panel on the light emission side of the liquid crystal panel and the liquid crystal panel. A first polarizing plate that forms a first cooling air path between the first polarizing plate and the liquid crystal panel on the light incident side of the liquid crystal panel, and a second cooling air between the liquid crystal panel A second polarizing plate that forms a path, an opening cut out to the windward side from the windward end of the first polarizing plate, and an opening that allows light transmitted through the liquid crystal panel to pass therethrough; The liquid crystal panel includes a liquid crystal panel mounting frame that is mounted on the light emission side from the liquid crystal panel.

Accordingly, it is possible to increase the air speed of the cooling air by a method of shortening the distance between the air passage width Y between the liquid crystal panel A and the output side polarizing plate C and reducing the cross-sectional area of the air passage. Brightness and noise reduction can be realized.
[0074]
In each of the embodiments described above, since the air path of the cooling air can be secured by changing the position and shape of the liquid crystal panel mounting plate, the interval between the liquid crystal panel and the output polarizing plate is narrowed. As a result, the cross-sectional area of the air passage is reduced, and the wind speed of the cooling air is increased.
[0075]
That is, since the ability to cool the liquid crystal panel and the output polarizing plate is improved, high brightness can be realized. Further, since the cooling capacity is improved without changing the air flow situation of the cooling fan, the amount of dust adhering to the liquid crystal panel display unit does not increase due to the air flow increase, and the cooling air passes through the intake filter. There is no demerit such as an increase in wind noise sometimes occurring, and noise reduction can be achieved.
[0076]
By adopting the structure of each embodiment and further setting the air flow rate to an arbitrary optimum value, uneven cooling of the liquid crystal panel surface can be reduced.
[0077]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the liquid crystal projector of the present invention, the cooling capacity can be improved by narrowing the distance between the liquid crystal panel and the polarizing plate.
