Description
【0001】
このずれ量は、λ/2位相差層66bの幅Wp(すなわち、偏光分離膜64aのx方向の大きさ)の半分に等しい。

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a light source device, an illumination optical system including the light source device, and a projector.
[0002]
[Prior art]
A projector modulates illumination light emitted from an illumination optical system according to image information using a modulation device such as a liquid crystal panel, and realizes image display by projecting the modulated illumination light on a screen. Yes.
[0003]
In such a projector, in order to uniformize the in-plane illuminance distribution of the illumination light that illuminates the modulation device, the light emitted from the light source lamp is divided into a plurality of partial beam bundles and superimposed in the vicinity of the modulation device. An integrator illumination optical system is used. Among such integrator illumination optical systems, in an integrator illumination optical system (uniform illumination optical system) using a light source lamp equipped with an elliptical reflector and a lens array, the light emitted from the elliptical reflector is usually collimated. In order to make the light incident on the lens array, a spherical concave lens is provided between the light source lamp and the lens array. That is, a light source device that emits parallel light is configured by a combination of a light source lamp and a spherical concave lens.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the light flux emitted from such a light source lamp actually has a high degree of parallelism in the central part, but the degree of parallelism in the peripheral part is not good. This is because spherical aberration occurs in the concave lens. In many cases, light beams with poor parallelism cannot be successfully passed through the lens array in an illumination optical system or in an apparatus such as a projector using such an illumination optical system. For this reason, in the conventional illumination optical system, it is difficult to efficiently use the light emitted from the light source lamp.
[0005]
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems in the prior art, and an object thereof is to provide a technique for improving the parallelism of light emitted from a light source device.
[0006]
[Means for solving the problems and their functions and effects]
In order to solve at least a part of the problems described above, the light source device of the present invention includes:
A discharge lamp,
An elliptical reflector having a reflecting surface for reflecting light emitted from the discharge lamp;
A lens that collimates the light reflected by the reflecting surface;
The lens is an aspherical lens having an aspherical surface of a rotating quadratic curved surface on either the entrance surface or the exit surface.
It is characterized by that.
[0007]
The light source device of the present invention includes an aspheric lens having an aspheric surface with a quadratic rotational curved surface on either one of the entrance surface and the exit surface, and thus improves the parallelism of the emitted light. Is possible.
[0008]
In the light source device,
In the aspheric surface, coordinate values in an rθZ cylindrical coordinate system that is axisymmetric with respect to the optical axis with the intersection point of the aspheric surface and the light source optical axis as the origin are r and Z, the paraxial curvature is c, and the conic constant is K. When
[Formula 6]
It is preferable that the shape is represented by
[0009]
In this way, the shape of the aspheric surface can be easily determined. Further, if a lens having an aspheric surface determined based on this equation is used, the spherical aberration can be considerably reduced, so that the parallelism of light emitted from the light source device can be considerably improved.
[0010]
In the light source device, the aspheric surface is preferably a concave surface. In this case, since the lens can be disposed between the first focus and the second focus of the elliptical reflector, the light source device can be reduced in size.
[0011]
At this time, the aspheric lens may be bonded to the opening surface of the elliptical reflector. This makes it possible to further reduce the size of the light source device and allow the aspheric lens to function as the front glass of the light source device.
[0012]
However, in the light source device, the aspherical surface may be a convex surface.
[0013]
In the light source device, when the aspherical surface of the lens is a concave surface or a convex surface and the exit surface is an aspherical surface, the aspherical surface preferably has a spheroidal shape.
[0014]
When the exit surface is an aspherical surface, the diameter of the emitted light bundle can be reduced. Therefore, when the light source device is used in an illumination optical system or a projector, the size of the optical element arranged on the downstream side of the optical path from the light source device can be reduced, so that the illumination optical system and the projector can be reduced in size. is there. Furthermore, when the exit surface is an aspherical surface, there is an effect that the variation in the in-plane illuminance of the emitted light bundle can be made relatively small.
[0015]
At this time, the spheroid is a coordinate in the rθZ cylindrical coordinate system in which the intersection of the aspherical surface and the light source optical axis is the origin, the light source optical axis is the Z axis, and the axis orthogonal to the light source optical axis is the r axis. When the values are r and Z, the paraxial curvature is c, and the conic constant is K,
[Expression 7]
Is the shape represented by
The elliptical reflector has a coordinate value in an rθZ cylindrical coordinate system with an intersection point between the reflecting surface and the light source optical axis as an origin, the light source optical axis as a Z axis, and an axis orthogonal to the light source optical axis as an r axis. R , Z R And the paraxial curvature is c R And the conic constant is K R When
[Equation 8]
Is a shape represented by
-0.8 <K R <-0.5 is preferred.
[0016]
In this way, the shape of the spheroid can be easily determined. Further, if a lens having an aspheric surface determined based on this equation is used, the spherical aberration can be considerably reduced, so that the parallelism of light emitted from the light source device can be considerably improved.
[0017]
In the light source device, when the aspherical surface of the lens is a concave surface or a convex surface, and the exit surface is a spheroid surface, the incident surface of the lens is preferably a spherical surface.
[0018]
In this way, it is possible to prevent light from being refracted at the entrance surface of the lens, and thus it is possible to obtain emitted light with a higher degree of parallelism. When the incident surface is a plane, the parallelism of the emitted light is slightly worse than when the incident surface is a spherical surface. There is an advantage that it can be produced at low cost.
[0019]
Further, when the aspherical surface of the lens is a concave surface or a convex surface, the exit surface is a spheroid surface, and the incident surface is a sphere surface, the spheroid surface has an origin at the intersection of the aspheric surface and the light source optical axis, and the light source light. The coordinate values in the rθZ cylindrical coordinate system with the Z axis as the axis and the axis orthogonal to the light source optical axis as the r axis are r and Z, the paraxial curvature is c, the conic constant is K, and the refractive index of the lens is n,
[Equation 9]
It is preferable to make it the shape represented by. In this way, the shape of the spheroid can be easily determined.
[0020]
In this light source device, an ultraviolet reflecting film may be formed on the incident surface of the aspheric lens. In this way, it is possible to prevent ultraviolet light from being emitted from the light source device. Further, the intensity of visible light emitted from the light source device can be improved by reflecting the ultraviolet light emitted from the discharge lamp and returning to the discharge lamp again.
[0021]
In the light source device, when the aspherical surface of the lens is a concave surface or a convex surface and the incident surface is an aspherical surface, the aspherical surface preferably has a rotational hyperboloid shape.
[0022]
When the incident surface is an aspherical surface, the light reflected by the reflecting surface of the elliptical reflector can be collimated by the incident surface of the lens and can be prevented from being refracted by the exit surface. Accordingly, it is possible to obtain emitted light with higher parallelism.
[0023]
At this time, the rotating hyperboloid is a coordinate in an rθZ cylindrical coordinate system in which the intersection of the aspheric surface and the light source optical axis is the origin, the light source optical axis is the Z axis, and the axis orthogonal to the light source optical axis is the r axis. When the values are r and Z, the paraxial curvature is c, the conic constant is K, and the refractive index of the lens is n,
[Expression 10]
It is preferable that the shape is represented by
[0024]
In this way, the shape of the rotating hyperboloid can be easily determined. Further, if a lens having an aspheric surface determined based on this equation is used, the spherical aberration can be considerably reduced, so that the parallelism of light emitted from the light source device can be considerably improved.
[0025]
In this light source device, the exit surface of the aspheric lens may be a flat surface, and an ultraviolet reflecting film may be formed on the exit surface of the aspheric lens. In this way, it is possible to prevent ultraviolet light from being emitted from the light source device. Further, the intensity of visible light emitted from the light source device can be improved by reflecting the ultraviolet light emitted from the discharge lamp and returning to the discharge lamp again.
[0026]
The light source device includes a lens array that divides light emitted from the light source device into a plurality of partial light bundles, and a superimposing lens that superimposes the partial light bundles divided by the lens array on an illumination area. It can be used as a light source device in an illumination optical system.
[0027]
In the illumination optical system, when using a light source device in which the entrance surface of the aspherical lens has a rotational hyperboloid shape and the exit surface is a flat surface, the lens array may be provided on the exit surface of the aspheric lens. Good. In this way, the illumination optical system can be reduced in size.
[0028]
The light source device described above has a light incident surface as an illumination area illuminated by the light source device, and modulates the incident light from the light source device according to image information, and modulates by the electro-optical device. It can be used as a light source device in a projector including a projection optical system that projects the emitted light.
[0029]
By using the light source device described above as a light source for an illumination optical system or a projector, it is possible to improve the light utilization efficiency and improve the brightness of the projected image.

Further, when the value of the conic constant K is K = −1, the aspheric surface is a paraboloid of revolution. (4) Although the projector has been described by taking the case where the illumination optical system of the present invention is applied to a transmissive projector as an example, the present invention can also be applied to a reflective projector. Here, “transmission type” means that an electro-optical device as a light modulation means such as a transmission type liquid crystal panel transmits light, and “reflection type” means a reflection type. This means that the electro-optical device as the light modulation means, such as a liquid crystal panel, is a type that reflects light. In a reflection type projector, the cross dichroic prism is used as a color light separating means for separating light into three colors of red, green, and blue, and the modulated three colors are combined again in the same direction. It is also used as a color light combining means that emits light to When the present invention is applied to a reflection type projector, substantially the same effect as that of a transmission type projector can be obtained.
