【発明の属する技術分野】
本発明は、電子メールサービスの利用手続きに関し、特に電子メールサービスの利用契約方法に関するものである。

【従来の技術】
通信ネットワークの発達、とりわけ、インターネットや企業内ネットワークの進展によって、企業における業務のみならず、個人間においても電子メールのやり取りが盛んになりつつある。そして、その電子メールのやり取りの範囲も、国内に限定されず、世界的な規模で送受信が行われている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかしながら、現在の電子メールサービスには、以下のような問題がある。すなわち、普段は電子メールサービスを必要とせず、アカウント自体を保有していない者が、突発的に必要性が生じて、そのサービスを利用したいと考える場合、あるいは電子メールを利用したことのない者が、体験的にそれを利用したいと考える場合等において、一時的な電子メールサービスの利用という形態が提供されていない。

つまり、現状のサービスでは、電子メールの利用者は、恒久的にアカウントを保有しなければならず、また、アカウントを保有しない者には、電子メールサービスの利用が閉ざされているという問題がある。

また、上述のように、インターネットや企業内ネットワークによって電子メールが広く利用されているが、それは、利用者が登録、所属する接続業者、あるいは企業のネットワークに依存したものである。そこで、利用者が、常時使用しているネットワーク環境を離れた場合を想定すると、携帯型パーソナル・コンピュータや携帯電話等の端末設備を持ち歩く他に、電子メールサービスの利用は困難である、という問題がある。

このことは、現状の電子メールサービスが、必ずしも利用者の行動範囲と協調するものとはなっていないことを意味している。すなわち、利用者が、ネットワーク端末設備等を何ら準備、携帯することなく、出張や旅行等の外出先から電子メールを利用したいという要望があっても、現在のサービスでは、それに応えることができないという問題がある。

本発明は、上述の課題に鑑みてなされたもので、その目的とするところは、恒久的な電子メールアカウントを保有していなくても、一時的に電子メールサービスを利用できる電子メールサービスの利用契約方法を提供することである。

本発明の他の目的は、ユーザ自身が保有する端末装置で、あるいはユーザが移動先で、そのユーザが所有権を持たない端末装置を使用して、希望する一定期間だけ電子メールサービスを利用できるようにする電子メールサービスの利用契約方法を提供することである。

【課題を解決するための手段】
本発明は、通信回線を介して接続される宿泊施設内に設置されたユーザ端末とサーバを利用した電子メールサービスの利用契約方法であって、
前記ユーザ端末が、前記通信回線を介して前記サーバにアクセスするステップと、
所定のユーザ識別情報と、電子メールサービスの利用期間を含む契約情報を入力するための入力画面を表示するステップと、
利用者が前記入力画面から入力した前記ユーザ識別情報および前記契約情報と、宿泊場所識別情報を取得して前記サーバに送信するステップを有し、
前記サーバが、前記ユーザ端末から送信された前記ユーザ識別情報、前記契約情報および前記宿泊場所識別情報を受信するステップと、
前記ユーザ端末から受信した前記ユーザ識別情報と、前記契約情報に矛盾および誤りが存在するか否かの不具合を判定するステップと、
前記不具合を判定するステップにおいて不具合なしと判定された場合には、
前記ユーザ識別情報、前記契約情報および前記宿泊場所識別情報をデータベースに登録するステップと、
電子メールアカウントを生成して、電子メールアカウント情報を前記データベースに登録されている前記ユーザ識別情報、前記契約情報および前記宿泊場所識別情報と対応付けて前記データベースに登録するステップと、
前記ユーザ端末に対して、前記データベースに登録された前記電子メールアカウントを発行して送信するステップと、
を有し、
前記ユーザ端末が、前記サーバから受信した前記電子メールアカウントを電子メール送受信用ソフトに設定するステップをさらに有し、
前記サーバが、前記ユーザ端末に対して、前記電子メールアカウントを送信した後における所定のタイミングで、前記データベースに前記電子メールアカウント情報と対応付けて登録されている前記契約情報を取得して、前記契約情報に含まれる前記電子メールサービスの利用期間と、前記所定のタイミングの日時を比較して、前記電子メールサービスの利用期間が経過していないか否かを判定するステップと、
前記利用期間の経過を判定するステップにおいて、利用期間が経過していると判定された場合には、前記電子メールサービスの利用期間が経過している前記契約情報と対応付けられて前記データベースに登録されている前記電子メールアカウントを無効とするステップと、
前記データベースに前記電子メールアカウント情報と対応付けて登録されている前記宿泊場所識別情報を取得して、前記宿泊場所識別情報で識別される宿泊場所に滞在している前記ユーザ端末のユーザがチェックアウトしているか否かを判定するステップと、
前記チェックアウトの有無を判定するステップにおいて、チェックアウトが終了していると判定された場合には、前記電子メールアカウント情報と対応付けて前記データベースに登録されている前記ユーザ識別情報、前記契約情報および前記宿泊場所識別情報に基づいて前記ユーザ端末の前記電子メールサービスの使用に対する課金情報を出力するステップをさらに有する電子メールサービスの利用契約方法を提供する。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、添付図面を参照して、本発明の実施の形態について詳細に説明する。
＜実施の形態１＞
図１は、本発明の実施の形態１に係る電子メールサービスの利用契約方法（電子メールサービスの利用契約モデル）を実施するためのシステム構成を概略的に示している。同図に示すように、このシステムは、ネットワーク接続可能なユーザ端末１０と、事業者サーバ２０とから構成されている。そして、電子メールサービス（以下、単にサービスともいう）の利用者は、ユーザ端末１０を用いて契約手続き用ソフトを起動し、通常のアナログ電話回線やＩＳＤＮ回線等の通信回線３０を使用してダイヤルアップを行って、事業者サーバ２０と接続する。

ユーザ端末１０は、例えば、パーソナル・コンピュータ等の情報処理装置であり、ダイヤルアップ接続により事業者サーバ２０にアクセスして、電子メールサービス契約手続き用の入力画面を表示するとともに、利用者が入力したユーザ情報および契約情報を事業者サーバ２０に送信する機能を備えている。このユーザ端末１０は、さらに、電子メールを送受信する機能を有する。

事業者サーバ２０は、例えば、インターネット接続事業者が保有するワークステーション・サーバ等の情報処理装置によって構成される。この事業者サーバ２０は、上述のように、ユーザ端末１０との間でダイヤルアップ接続を確立し、ユーザ端末１０から送信されてくるユーザ情報および契約情報を受信する。そして、サーバ２０は、データベース上に情報登録を行い、電子メールアカウントを発行する機能を備えている。

事業者サーバ２０は、インターネット（不図示）に接続され、電子メールサーバとして動作するだけでなく、後述するように、さらなる機能として、ユーザ端末１０が指定した利用期間を満了したとき、利用者に割り当てた電子メールアカウントを無効にする機能をも有する。

そこで、本実施の形態１に係る電子メールサービス利用契約方法について、図２に示すシーケンス図を参照して具体的に説明する。本サービスの利用契約を締結しようとする利用者は、まず、ユーザ端末１０を用いて、契約手続き用ソフトを起動し、事業者サーバ２０へダイヤルアップを行う（図２のステップＡ１）。このようなダイヤルアップ接続（図２のシーケンスＳＱ１）によって、ユーザ端末１０と事業者サーバ２０との間の通信が確立される（シーケンスＳＱ２）。

接続確立後、契約手続き用ソフトによって、ユーザ端末１０上には、図３に示すような「電子メール利用ユーザ情報入力画面」３１が表示される。そこで、利用者は、このユーザ情報入力画面３１に表示された入力項目を記入する。すなわち、利用者は、端末のキーボード等を使用して、表示された入力画面上の書式（ユーザ情報の入力項目）に従って、自分の氏名、電話番号、住所、生年月日、性別といったユーザ情報を入力する。

上記のユーザ情報の入力が完了し、利用者が、画面上の「次へ」のソフトボタン３２をクリックすると、ユーザ端末１０上には、図４に示す「電子メール利用契約情報入力画面」４１が表示される。そして、利用者は、この契約情報入力画面４１に表示される入力項目を記入する。

契約情報の入力項目は、事業者サーバ２０にログインするためのログイン名とパスワード、利用者が希望する電子メールの利用期間、料金支払い時に使用するクレジットカード番号からなる。なお、利用期間の入力については、複数の選択肢を設けて、それらより利用者が選択する方法をとってもよい。

利用者が、図３，図４に示す全ての入力項目を記入した後、画面４１上の「送信」のソフトボタン４２をクリックすると、事業者サーバ２０へのユーザ情報と契約情報の送信が実行される（図２のステップＡ２）。このような、事業者サーバ２０へのユーザ情報と契約情報の送信は、ユーザ端末１０から事業者サーバ２０へのアカウント発行要求（図２のシーケンスＳＱ３）を意味する。

一方、事業者サーバ２０は、ユーザ端末１０から利用者のユーザ情報と契約情報を受信すると、これらのユーザ情報と契約情報の内容に矛盾、誤り等の不具合がないかどうかを検査し、同時に、クレジットカード情報が適正であるか否かを判定する。そして、事業者サーバ２０は、これらの判定の結果、利用者からの電子メールサービスの利用要求を受け入れると判断した場合、ユーザ情報と契約情報をデータベースに登録するとともに、電子メールアカウントを発行する（ステップＡ３）。

図２に示すシーケンスＳＱ４は、ユーザ端末１０（つまり、利用者）に対して、電子メールサービスの利用要求を受理した旨を告知するメッセージの送信シーケンスであり、事業者サーバ２０が発行した電子メールアカウントをメッセージでユーザ端末１０に通知するシーケンスでもある。

そこで、ユーザ端末１０側では、事業者サーバ２０より受信した電子メールアカウントと、上記のステップＡ２で記入したログイン名、パスワードの情報を電子メール送受信用ソフトに設定する（ステップＡ４）。これによって、利用契約手続きが完了する。

このように利用者は、自分が指定したサービスの利用期間内において、割り当てられた電子メールアカウントを用いて、繰り返し電子メールを送受信することができる。つまり、利用者は、ユーザ端末１０を用いて電子メール送受信用ソフトを起動し、事業者サーバ２０にログインが可能となり、サービス利用期間内の間、発行された電子メールアカウントを使用することで、電子メールの送受信ができる（ステップＡ５、およびシーケンスＳＱ５，ＳＱ６）。

なお、電子メール送受信用ソフトが備える確認用コマンドを使用して、ユーザ端末１０から、利用者が、契約した利用期間を確認することができるようにしてもよい。

他方、事業者サーバ２０は、例えば、毎日、午前０時００分に、そのサーバのデータベースに登録された全利用者の契約情報を走査し、全利用者について利用期間情報と現在日時とを照合する。そして、利用期間の満了した利用者がいる場合、その者の電子メールアカウントを削除する（ステップＡ６）。よって、以降、その利用者は、電子メールサービスを受けられないことになる。

図５は、事業者サーバにおけるサービス利用契約の処理手順を示すフローチャートである。同図のステップＳ５１で、事業者サーバ２０は、ユーザ端末１０より送信されたユーザ情報と契約情報を受信し、ステップＳ５２において、これらの情報内容に不具合がないかどうかを検査する。そして、続くステップＳ５３で、契約情報に含まれるクレジットカード情報が適正かどうかを判定する。

情報内容に不具合があったり（ステップＳ５２でＹＥＳ）、クレジットカード情報が適正でない（ステップＳ５３でＮＯ）と判断された場合、事業者サーバ２０は、ステップＳ６０において、ユーザ端末１０に対して情報の再送を要求する。

しかし、ユーザ端末１０からの情報内容に不具合がなく、クレジットカード情報も適正であれば、事業者サーバ２０は、ステップＳ５４で、サーバのデータベースに、受信したユーザ情報と契約情報を登録する。そして、続くステップＳ５５で、ユーザ端末１０に対して電子メールアカウントを発行する。

ステップＳ５６において、事業者サーバ２０は、現在の時刻が所定時刻（例えば、午前０時００分）であるかどうかを判断し、それが所定時刻であれば、ステップＳ５７で、データベースに登録された全利用者の契約情報をもとに、これらの全利用者について、あらかじめ契約した利用期間についての情報と現在日時とを照合する。

この照合によって、利用期間の満了した利用者がいると判定された場合（ステップＳ５８でＹＥＳ）、事業者サーバ２０は、続くステップＳ５９において、その期間満了者の電子メールアカウントを削除する処理を行う。

以上説明したように、本実施の形態１によれば、利用者自らが指定したサービスの利用期間内において、インターネット接続業者より割り当てられた電子メールアカウントを用いて、繰り返し電子メールを送受信できるようにすることで、利用者は、ネットワーク接続設備さえ保有していれば、恒久的な電子メールアカウントを保有していなくても、電子メールサービスが不要となる時点を見越して契約を行えるので、一時的な電子メールサービスの利用が可能となり、接続業者との定常的、長期的な契約が不要となる。そのため、サービス利用者にとって、より利便性が向上した電子メールサービスが提供されるという効果がある。

また、ネットワーク使用料の継続的な支払いを好まないユーザ層にとっては、利用期間あるいはメール送受信回数に応じた課金体系となるため、簡易かつ安心して利用できる電子メールサービスの提供が可能となる。

＜実施の形態２＞
以下、本発明の実施の形態２について詳細に説明する。本実施の形態に係る電子メールサービス利用契約方法の特徴は、ホテル等の宿泊施設が各客室にユーザ端末を配置し、その宿泊施設内でローカル・エリア・ネットワーク（ＬＡＮ）を構築していることである。従って、利用者が使用するのは、自らが所有するユーザ端末ではない点と、料金の支払い方法としてクレジットカードを使用しない点において、本実施の形態２の契約方法は、上述した実施の形態１に係る方法と異なる。

図６は、本実施の形態２に係る電子メールサービス利用契約方法を実施するための概略システム構成を示している。同図に示すように、本システムでは、複数のユーザ端末６０ａ〜６０ｎと、ホスト７０とを、伝送路８０を介して相互に接続することでＬＡＮを構成している。なお、これらのユーザ端末は、例えば、パーソナル・コンピュータ等の情報処理装置である。

ユーザ端末６０ａ〜６０ｎは、インターネット用ブラウザを使用して、ホスト７０にアクセスし、ホスト７０が提供するホームページを表示することができる。なお、ホスト７０は、例えば、ワークステーション・サーバ等の情報処理装置によって構成され、インターネット（または、インターネット接続業者）９０にアクセスすることができる。

ホスト７０は、上述のように、各ユーザ端末６０ａ〜６０ｎとＬＡＮによって接続されており、Ｗｅｂサーバおよびメールサーバとして各ユーザ端末にネットワークサービスを提供する。

図７は、本実施の形態２に係る電子メールサービス利用契約方法を説明するための、ユーザ端末とホスト間におけるデータのやり取り、および処理を示すシーケンス図である。利用契約を結ぼうとする利用者は、最初に、自分が滞在する客室に設置されたユーザ端末を用いて、インターネット用ブラウザソフトを起動し、宿泊施設が管理運営するホームページを表示する。このホームページは、ホスト７０によって提供される（図７のステップＢ１）。

利用者が、ホームページ上に設定された電子メールサービス・メニューを起動することにより、ユーザ端末上には、図８に示すような「電子メールサービス・ユーザ情報入力画面」８１が表示される。そこで、利用者は、キーボード等を使用して、このユーザ情報入力画面に表示された入力項目を記入する。

ユーザ情報の入力項目は、画面８１に示すように、利用者の氏名、電話番号、住所、生年月日、性別である。そして、これらのユーザ情報の入力が完了し、利用者が、画面上の「次へ」のソフトボタン８２をクリックすると、図９に示す「電子メールサービス契約情報入力画面」９１がユーザ端末上に表示される。

そこで、利用者は、契約情報入力画面９１に表示された入力項目を記入する。契約情報の入力項目としては、電子メール送受信メニューを起動するために必要となるログイン名とパスワード、利用者が希望する電子メールの利用期間である。なお、利用期間の入力は、提示された複数の選択肢より利用者が選択する方法としてもよい。

利用者が、図８，図９に示す全ての入力項目を記入した後、画面９１上の「送信」のソフトボタン９２をクリックすると、ホスト７０へ、ユーザ情報と契約情報が送信される。このとき、ユーザ端末からは、契約情報とともに、利用者が滞在する客室の部屋番号９３も併せてホスト７０へ送信される（ステップＢ２）。

なお、この客室の部屋番号９３は、ここでは、課金用識別番号として用いられる。また、ホスト７０へのユーザ情報と契約情報の送信は、ユーザ端末からホスト７０へのアカウント発行要求（図７のシーケンスＳＱ１１）を意味する。

ホスト７０は、ユーザ端末から、利用者のユーザ情報と契約情報を受信すると、これらの受信したユーザ情報と契約情報の内容に矛盾、誤り等の不具合がないかを検査し、それらが適正であるかどうかを判定する。そして、ホスト７０は、利用者からの電子メールサービスの利用要求を受け入れると判断した場合、ユーザ情報と契約情報をデータベースに登録する。

同時に、ホスト７０は、電子メールアカウントを発行し（ステップＢ３）、電子メールサービスの利用要求を受理した旨を利用者に通知するとともに、発行した電子メールアカウントをユーザ端末に送信する（シーケンスＳＱ１２）。これによって、利用契約手続きが完了する。

次に、利用者は、ユーザ端末を用いて、ホスト７０が提供するホームページから電子メールサービス・メニューを起動し、電子メール送受信メニューにログインする。このようにすることで、利用者は、契約した利用期間内、発行された電子メールアカウントを使用して電子メールを送受信することができる（ステップＢ４、およびシーケンスＳＱ１３，ＳＱ１４）。

なお、電子メール送受信メニューが用意する確認用コマンドを使用して、利用者自信が、ユーザ端末より、契約した利用期間を確認することができるようにしてもよい。

一方、ホスト７０は、例えば、毎日、午前１０時００分に、そのホストのデータベースに登録された全利用者の契約情報を走査し、全利用者について利用期間情報と現在日時を照合する。照合の結果、利用期間が満了した利用者がいれば、その者の電子メールアカウントを削除する（ステップＢ５）。

なお、ホスト７０は、利用者が宿泊施設をチェックアウトしたとき、契約した利用期間が満了していない場合であっても、利用者の電子メールアカウントを削除する。

また、利用者が宿泊施設をチェックアウトする際、その宿泊施設の従事者は、所定の操作を行ってホスト７０のデータベースを検索し、利用者が支払うべき電子メールサービスの課金情報を参照することで、利用者に使用料金の請求を行なう（ステップＢ６）。

図１０は、ホストにおけるサービス利用契約の処理手順を示すフローチャートである。同図のステップＳ１０１で、ホスト７０は、ユーザ端末６０ａ〜６０ｎより送信されたユーザ情報と契約情報を受信し、ステップＳ１０２において、これらの情報内容に不具合がないかどうかを検査する。ここで、情報内容に不具合があれば、ホスト７０は、ステップＳ１２０において、ユーザ端末に対して情報の再送を要求する。

しかし、ユーザ端末からの情報内容に不具合がなければ、ホスト７０は、ステップＳ１０３で、受信したユーザ情報と契約情報をデータベースに登録する。そして、続くステップＳ１０４で、ユーザ端末に対して電子メールアカウントを発行する。

ステップＳ１０５で、ホスト７０は、現在の時刻が所定時刻（例えば、多くの宿泊施設が採用するチェックアウト時刻を考慮した、午前１０時００分）であるかどうかを判断する。そして、現在の時刻が上記の所定時刻であれば、ステップＳ１０６において、データベースに登録された全利用者の契約情報に基づいて、これらの全利用者について、契約した利用期間情報と現在日時とを照合する。

上記の照合によって、利用期間の満了した利用者がいると判定された場合（ステップＳ１０７でＹＥＳ）、ホスト７０は、次のステップＳ１０９において、その期間満了者の電子メールアカウントを削除する処理を行う。

しかし、現在の時刻が所定時刻でない場合（ステップＳ１０５でＮＯ）、あるいは、利用者の利用期間が経過していない場合には、その者が宿泊施設のチェックアウトを終えているかどうかを判断する（ステップＳ１０８）。そして、チェックアウトを終了している利用者がいれば、ステップＳ１０９において、ホスト７０は、その利用者の電子メールアカウントを削除する。

最終的にホスト７０は、ステップＳ１１０において、利用期間が満了した状態でチェックアウトする者や、利用期間を満了していないがチェックアウトする者に対してメール・サービス料金を請求するための情報、すなわち課金情報を提示する。

以上説明したように、本実施の形態２によれば、宿泊施設等、利用者の入れ替わりが頻繁に発生する場所にインターネット接続環境を設置しておくことにより、出張者や旅行者が、希望する一定期間だけ電子メールサービスを利用できるようになり、携帯電話、携帯型パーソナル・コンピュータ等のネットワーク接続機器の持ち合わせはないが電子メールを利用したいというユーザの要望に対応できる。

特にホテル業の場合、上記のようなサービスを提供すること自体が宣伝効果を発揮し、集客力の飛躍的な強化につながるという利点がある。

なお、本発明は、上述した実施の形態に限定されるものではなく、発明の趣旨を逸脱しない範囲において種々変形が可能である。例えば、上記の実施の形態１では、契約期間の満了者に対して、また、実施の形態２では、契約期間の満了者に加えて、チェックアウト終了者の電子メールアカウントを削除する処理を実行しているが、その際、その利用者に対応するデータベースの内容を一定期間、ユーザ履歴情報として、サーバあるいはホスト内に保存しておくようにしてもよい。

つまり、単発的に何度も電子メールサービスを利用する者がいる場合、その者が、サービスへの登録の都度、ユーザ情報と契約情報を入力することは煩わしいため、例えば、２回目以降のサービス登録のときには、利用期間の選定情報のみを入力させる。そして、他の情報については、初回あるいは前回、利用者が既に入力した情報をそのまま使用するようにしてもよい。

このようにすることで、一時的ではあっても、一定の頻度で電子メールサービスを利用しようとする者にとって、２回目以降の利用において、ユーザ情報等の入力操作から解放されるため、より便宜性を向上させた形態の電子メールサービスを提供できる。

【発明の効果】
以上説明したように、本発明によれば、電子メールサービスのユーザが接続事業者に対して、その電子メールサービスの利用期間を指定し、接続事業者は、上記指定された利用期間だけユーザに電子メールサービスを提供するとともに、上記ユーザに対する電子メールアカウントは、上記指定された利用期間だけ有効とする電子メールサービスの利用契約方法を提供することで、ユーザは、希望する、あらかじめ指定した期間だけ限定的に電子メールサービスの利用ができる。

また、他の発明によれば、ユーザは、ユーザ自身が所有する端末装置を使用して電子メールサービスの提供を受け、そのサービスの利用料金は、上記契約情報に含まれるユーザの個人口座番号に基づいて支払われる電子メールサービスの利用契約方法により、ユーザにとっては支払いが簡単になり、接続事業者には、確実に利用料金を回収できるという効果がある。

さらに、他の発明に係る電子メールサービスの利用契約方法によれば、ユーザは、ユーザの滞在先が所有する端末装置を使用して電子メールサービスの提供を受け、そのサービスの利用料金を、上記滞在先への滞在費とともに支払う構成をとるため、ユーザにとって、移動先に設置された端末を使用した、一定期間の電子メールサービスの利用が可能となるだけでなく、出先におけるサービス利用料金の支払いが簡単かつ迅速になる。
