【0001】
すなわち、本実施形態では再生信号の処理方式としてPRML(Partial Response Maximum Likelihood)方式を用いている。
【0037】
タップ係数の適応制御の方法として、MSE法の他にZF(Zero Forcing)法やMZF(Modified Zero Forcing)法等もある。

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an adaptive equalizer and an optical disk apparatus using the adaptive equalizer in a reproduction signal processing system for processing a reproduction signal from an optical disk.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In an optical disc apparatus, generally, an equalizer for performing waveform equalization of a reproduction signal from an optical disc is arranged in a reproduction signal processing system. That is, a reproduction signal obtained from an optical disk by an optical head is first equalized in waveform by an equalizer, and then input to a discrimination / determination unit or a decoder to generate decoded data.
[0003]
The equalizer is composed mainly of a transversal filter with variable tap coefficients. The transversal filter is composed of a delay circuit having a plurality of taps, a multiplier that multiplies the output of each tap by a tap coefficient, and an adder that calculates the sum of the outputs of each multiplier, and the waveform is equalized from the output of the adder. It is configured to extract a signal (equalization signal). The tap coefficient is selected so that the reliability of the decoded data is improved, that is, the error rate of the decoded data is as small as possible.
[0004]
If the characteristics of the reproduced signal from the optical disc are constant or the characteristic change is small enough to be ignored, the tap coefficient may be fixed, but if the characteristic change of the reproduced signal cannot be ignored, the tap coefficient is set accordingly. Need to control. Such an equalizer that adaptively controls the tap coefficient in accordance with the change in the characteristics of the reproduced signal is called an adaptive equalizer. Such an adaptive equalizer is disclosed in, for example, the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers Vol. 81, No. 5, pp. 497-505 (May 1998).
[0005]
The adaptive equalizer is roughly classified into a preset type and a blind type depending on whether training data that is known data or user data that is unknown data is used to calculate an equalization error for controlling the tap coefficient. .
[0006]
In the preset type adaptive equalizer, known training data is recorded in at least one place of the optical disc, and an equalization signal is calculated from a reproduction signal of the training data at the time of reproduction, and at the same time, generated from a training data generator. An ideal signal indicating an ideal waveform of the equalized signal is calculated from the training data, and the tap coefficient is controlled by the tap coefficient control unit in accordance with an equalization error signal that is a difference between the actual equalized signal and the ideal signal.
[0007]
On the other hand, in a blind type adaptive equalizer, an ideal signal indicating an ideal waveform of an equalized signal is obtained from decoded data obtained by passing a reproduction signal of user data, which is an original information signal from an optical disc, through an equalizer and a decoder. The tap coefficient is controlled by the tap coefficient control unit in accordance with the equalization error signal that is generated and similarly obtained by taking the difference between the actual equalization signal and the ideal signal.
[0008]
These two types of adaptive equalizers are selectively used on an actual optical disc apparatus as the operation proceeds. That is, at the beginning of reproduction from the optical disc, training data is first reproduced and operated as a preset type adaptive equalizer, and when user data starts to be reproduced, it is operated as a blind type adaptive equalizer.
[0009]
Various methods such as MSE (Minimum Square Error) method, ZF (Zero Forcing) method, and MZF (Modified Zero Forcing) method have been proposed as tap coefficient control algorithms in the tap coefficient control unit. Specifically, the tap coefficient is updated (corrected) step by step so that the equalization error signal is minimized. When the tap coefficient is updated and controlled in a stepwise manner, a coefficient (update coefficient) relating to the update amount for each time is referred to as control sensitivity.
[0010]
The preset type adaptive equalizer and the blind type adaptive equalizer described above both have advantages and disadvantages. First, since the preset type adaptive equalizer needs to record training data on an optical disc, there is a problem that the user data area on the optical disc is reduced and the format efficiency is lowered. In particular, in order to control the tap coefficient more accurately, training data having a large data length is required, and the format efficiency is further reduced.
[0011]
In the blind adaptive equalizer, the decoded data of the user data is used for calculating the ideal signal, so that an error occurring in the decoded data is propagated to the tap coefficient control. Due to this error propagation, coefficient control becomes unstable, and there is a problem that tap coefficients are likely to diverge.
[0012]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As described above, the conventional preset type adaptive equalizer has a problem of reducing the format efficiency, and the blind type adaptive equalizer has an unstable tap coefficient control due to an error generated in the decoded data. Therefore, there is a problem that the tap coefficient is likely to diverge.
[0013]
An object of the present invention is to provide an adaptive equalizer having a good equalization characteristic with high format efficiency and in which tap coefficients are less likely to diverge, and an optical disk apparatus using the same.
[0014]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above-described problem, the present invention includes a transversal filter having a plurality of tap coefficient variable taps and a tap coefficient control unit that controls the tap coefficient. Select a preset type adaptive equalization mode that controls the tap coefficient according to the required equalization error and a blind type adaptive equalization mode where the tap coefficient control unit controls the tap coefficient according to the equalization error calculated from unknown data of the input / output signal In a preset adaptive equalizer, the control sensitivity for the tap coefficients of at least some of the taps is independently set by the tap coefficient controller in the preset adaptive equalization mode and in the blind adaptive equalization mode. Control sensitivity setting means is provided.
[0015]
According to another aspect, the adaptive equalizer according to the present invention includes a transversal filter having a plurality of tap coefficient variable taps, a tap coefficient control unit that controls the tap coefficient, and the tap coefficient control unit that receives the input / output signal. Preset adaptive equalization mode for controlling tap coefficients in accordance with equalization errors obtained from known data, and blind type adaptive equalization in which the tap coefficient control unit controls tap coefficients in accordance with equalization errors obtained from unknown data of input / output signals Mode setting means for selectively setting one of the modes, and the control sensitivity for the tap coefficient of at least some taps by the tap coefficient control unit is set to a different value according to the adaptive equalization mode set by the mode setting means Control sensitivity setting means.
[0016]
The tap coefficient control unit is configured to control the tap coefficient by, for example, updating the tap coefficient stepwise according to a predetermined update coefficient, and the control sensitivity setting unit sets the update coefficient as the control sensitivity.
[0017]
Specifically, the control sensitivity setting means sets the control sensitivity in the preset type adaptive equalization mode to be larger than the control sensitivity in the blind type adaptive equalization mode.
[0018]
The control sensitivity setting means may be configured such that the control sensitivity for the tap coefficient can be set independently for each tap, and the control sensitivity for the tap coefficient of the center tap and the control sensitivity for the tap coefficient of both ends. And can be set individually.
[0019]
Furthermore, the optical disc apparatus according to the present invention has the above-described adaptive equalizer in the reproduction signal processing system for processing the reproduction signal from the optical disc. In this case, training data is used as known data, and user data is used as unknown data.
[0020]
According to the adaptive equalizer of the present invention, the optimum tap coefficient control sensitivity can be set in each of the preset type adaptive equalization mode and the blind type adaptive equalization mode. As a result, in the preset type adaptive equalization mode, for example, by increasing the control sensitivity, the tap coefficient convergence time is shortened. Therefore, known data (training data) used for calculating the equalization error in the preset type adaptive equalization mode. Thus, the data length of the optical disc can be shortened, and a decrease in the format efficiency of the optical disc is suppressed. In the blind adaptive equalization mode, the tap coefficient divergence is less likely to occur by reducing the control sensitivity of the tap coefficient.
[0021]
Further, by making the tap coefficient of the tap coefficient large, for example, the tap coefficient of the taps at both ends, larger than the tap coefficient of the other part, for example, the tap at the center, the convergence time of the tap coefficient is shortened, and The tap coefficient is less likely to diverge.

Here, α is an update coefficient related to the update amount of the tap system number for each time in the second term on the right side of Equation (3), and is a value called control sensitivity.
[0037]
In addition to the MSE method, there are a ZF (Zero Forcing) method, an MZF (Modified Zero Forcing) method, and the like as methods for adaptive control of tap coefficients. In these methods, when the tap coefficient update period is MT (M: positive integer, T: channel bit period), the time nMT to {(n + 1) M−1} T (n: non-negative integer) is used. The tap coefficient Gi (n) of the i-th tap in is generally expressed by the following equation.

However, J (mT) is a function related to the equalization error signal, and the tap coefficient is controlled so that this J (mT) is minimized, that is, the equalization error signal is minimized. Further, α is the control sensitivity as in the equation (3). The present invention can be applied to a case where adaptive control of tap coefficients by such various algorithms is performed.
[0040]
Here, the control sensitivity α is fixed in the conventional adaptive equalizer, but the present invention is characterized in that the control sensitivity α can be selectively set according to the adaptive equalization mode. Specifically, in the present embodiment, a control

In the conversion mode, a relatively small control sensitivity α1 is set. By adopting such a configuration, it is possible to maximize the advantages of each of the preset type and blind type adaptive equalization modes as follows.

On the other hand, when (α0, α1) is (0.01, 0.01), the equalization error signal is large even when the preset type adaptive equalization mode using training data ends, and the tap coefficients are not sufficiently converged. Even if the reproduction of user data is started and the mode is shifted to the blind adaptive equalization mode, sufficient equalization performance cannot be obtained. On the other hand, when (α0, α1) is (0.1, 0.01), the tap coefficient does not diverge even after the instantaneous deterioration of the reproduction signal, and the reproduction of user data starts and blind type adaptation, etc. It can be seen that sufficient equalization performance is obtained by shifting to the equalization mode.
[0049]
As described above, in the present embodiment, the control sensitivity of the tap coefficient is different depending on the blind type adaptive equalization mode in the preset type adaptive equalization mode, more specifically, the control sensitivity α0 in the preset type adaptive equalization mode. Is made larger than the control sensitivity α1 at the time of the blind type adaptive equalization, an appropriate tap coefficient can be obtained even if the data length of the training data recorded on the

FIG. 6 shows how the tap coefficient of each tap varies when tangential tilt is gradually applied to the
[0055]
The amount of tangential tilt changes from moment to moment, and the amount of tangential tilt differs between the reproduction of training data and the reproduction of user data. Here, if the control sensitivity of all the taps is uniformly lowered, the data length of training data required in the preset equalization mode must be increased to compensate for this, and the format efficiency of the
[0056]
Therefore, in this embodiment, when training data is reproduced, that is, in the preset type adaptive equalization mode, tap coefficient control sensitivities α0, α1, α2, α3, α4, α5, α6, α7, α8, α9 are set as follows. Set.
[0057]
[Expression 4]
[0058]
That is, the control sensitivities α3, α4, α5, and α6 at the central portion where the influence of the tangential tilt hardly appears are made higher than the control sensitivities α0, α1, α2, α7, α8, and α9 at the both ends. As a result, sufficient equalization performance can be obtained even when training data with a short data length is used, while keeping the control sensitivity to fluctuations in tangential tilt low.
[0059]
On the other hand, when reproducing user data, that is, in the blind type adaptive equalization mode, tap coefficient control sensitivities α0, α1, α2, α3, α4, α5, α6, α7, α8, α9 are set as follows.
[0060]
[Equation 5]
[0061]
In other words, in this case, contrary to the preset type adaptive equalization mode, the tap sensitivities α0, α1, α2, α7, α8, and α9 at both ends where the influence of the tangential tilt greatly appears are controlled at the center. By making it higher than the sensitivities α3, α4, α5, and α6, the tap coefficient can be made to follow the tangential tilt variation with high sensitivity.
[0062]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, since the optimum tap coefficient control sensitivity can be set for each of the preset type adaptive equalization mode and the blind type adaptive equalization mode, in the preset type adaptive equalization mode, For example, the control sensitivity is increased to shorten the tap coefficient convergence time, and the data length of the known data (training data) used to calculate the equalization error can be shortened. Decreasing the format efficiency due to the increase can be suppressed, and in the blind type adaptive equalization mode, the tap coefficient control sensitivity is reduced, so that the tap coefficient is less likely to diverge and a stable equalization operation can be obtained.
[0063]
Further, the tap coefficient convergence time can be obtained by making the tap coefficient of the tap coefficient on both ends side larger than the tap coefficient of the other part, for example, the tap in the central part, where the tap coefficient greatly changes. And the tap coefficient is less likely to diverge.
