Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an organic electroluminescence element.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, electroluminescence elements (hereinafter abbreviated as EL elements) have features such as high visibility due to self-emission and excellent impact resistance due to complete solid elements, and as light-emitting elements in various display devices. Attention has been paid. Moreover, since it is a thin film surface emitting device capable of emitting light of each color of R (red), G (green), and B (blue), application to a full-color flat panel display is expected.
[0003]
This EL element includes an inorganic EL element using an inorganic compound as a light emitting material and an organic EL element using an organic compound. Since the organic EL element can significantly reduce the operating voltage, research on practical application is actively promoted. It has been.
[0004]
The structure of the organic EL element is basically a structure in which an anode / light emitting layer / cathode is formed on a transparent substrate, and there is a structure in which a hole injection layer and an electron injection layer are appropriately provided in this basic structure. For example, anode / hole injection layer / light emitting layer / cathode, anode / hole injection layer / light emitting layer / electron injection layer / cathode, etc., and the hole injection layer emits holes injected from the anode. The electron injection layer has a function of transmitting electrons injected from the cathode to the light emitting layer. By interposing the hole injection layer between the light emitting layer and the anode, many holes are injected into the light emitting layer at a lower operating voltage, and electrons injected from the cathode or the electron injection layer into the light emitting layer are injected. This is based on the fact that the light emission efficiency is increased by accumulation at the interface in the light emitting layer due to the barrier of electrons existing at the interface between the light emitting layer and the hole injection layer (“Applied Physics Letters” Vol. 51, No. 913). Page (1987)).
[0005]
There are various types of organic EL elements having a basic structure (anode / light emitting layer / cathode).
[0006]
For example, (1) an element composed of a light-emitting layer in which a hole transport material, an electron transport material, and a light-emitting material that emits light in response to recombination of holes and electrons are mixed. (PVK) as an electron transport material has the following chemical formula:
[Formula 4]
[0008]
It has been disclosed that an oxadiazole derivative called PBD represented by the above formula can realize high-luminance green light emission using a coumarin derivative as a light-emitting substance (“Applied Physics” Vol. 61, p. 1044 (1992). )).
[0009]
Further, (2) an element comprising a light emitting layer doped with a hole transport material, an electron transport material, and a fluorescent material in a matrix material that does not transport holes or electrons, and TPD is used as a hole transport material. It is disclosed that high-luminance green light emission is realized by using an aluminum-oxine complex as a transport material, a coumarin derivative as a light-emitting material, and polymethylene methacrylate (PMMA) as a matrix (“Applied Physics Letters”). 61, 761 (1992)).
[0010]
However, these elements have difficulty in arranging fine RGB light emitting segments for full color because it is difficult to perform photolithography patterning of an organic LED (EL) film. There is also room for improvement in heat resistance (durability).
[0011]
Therefore, for full color using organic EL elements, white light emitting organic EL devices and color filters (“Science Technical Report” Vol. 94, No. 535, page 1 (1995)), blue organic An element using an EL element and a wavelength tunable element (“Science Technical Report” Vol. 94, No. 535, page 13 (1995)) has been proposed.
[0012]
However, since a filter or a wavelength conversion element is used, there are problems such as a complicated system and inefficient use of light emission (a ratio of using light emission of the light emitting element as panel luminance).
[0013]
A microresonator structure ("Applied Physics Letters", Vol. 63, page 594 (1993)) has also been proposed, but it is seen that the cost of the process for fabricating the microresonator is added. I have a problem that the color shifts depending on the angle.
[0014]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As described above, since it is difficult to photolithography pattern organic EL (EL) films in conventional organic electroluminescence element manufacturing, it is difficult to arrange fine RGB light emitting segments for full color. I had it.
[0015]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
As a result of various studies, the present inventors have found that certain cardopolymers, that is, chemical formula I
[0016]
[Chemical formula 5]
[0017]
Or Chemical Formula II
[0018]
[Chemical 6]
[0019]
Or Chemical Formula III
[0020]
[Chemical 7]
[0021]
It is discovered that the compounds shown in 1) or derivatives thereof or mixtures thereof are materials that can be doped (molecularly dispersed) with hole transport materials, electron transport materials, and organic light-emitting materials, and that can be subjected to photolithography patterning. did.
[0022]
Using this, in an organic EL device having an anode / light emitting layer / cathode structure on a transparent substrate, the hole transport material and / or the electron transport material and the organic light emitting material are used as the matrix as the light emitting layer. By doping the compound represented by Chemical Formula I, Chemical Formula II or Chemical Formula III, or a derivative thereof, or a mixture thereof, photolithography patterning of an organic LED (EL) film becomes possible, and fine RGB light emission toward full color is achieved. The inventors have found that the arrangement of segments can be realized, and have come up with an invention. In addition, this matrix is thermally stable, has excellent thin film properties, can form a uniform and dense film, and does not easily generate pinholes during electrode formation, so heat resistance (long life) is also expected. it can.
[0023]
Further, for the purpose of improving durability, it can be sealed with a resin to block moisture and oxygen, or a thin film of germanium dioxide can be deposited.
[0025]
That is, the present invention serving as the means for solving the problems (1) on a transparent substrate, an organic electroluminescent device having a structure of transparent electrode / light emitting layer / back electrode, light emitting layer, a hole transport material and / or electron-transport An organic electroluminescent device is characterized in that a substance and an organic light-emitting substance comprise a phase doped (molecularly dispersed) in a compound represented by the above chemical formula I, chemical formula II or chemical formula III, a derivative thereof, or a mixture thereof. It made us Te.
[0027]
Still further, the present invention is characterized in that (2) in the problem solving means described in (1 ) above, an alloy thin film such as MgAg or AlLi and / or a thin film having a two-layer structure of Mg is used as the back electrode. This can also be achieved by an organic electroluminescence element.
[0028]
The present invention provides: (3) In the problem solving means described in (1 ) above, DCM1 and / or Nile Red as the organic light emitting material, Coumarin 6, Coumarin 7 and aluminum Organic electroluminescence using at least one selected from the group consisting of oxine complexes and TPB (1,1,4,4-tetraphenyl-1,3-butadiene) as a blue light emitting material It is also achieved by an element.
[0029]
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Next, the present invention will be described in detail.
[0030]
As the transparent substrate, a glass or transparent resin (for example, polyethersulfone, polyarylate) substrate can be used.
[0031]
The electrode on the substrate side needs to be a transparent electrode, and for example, Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) can be used.
[0032]
As the light-emitting layer, a hole transport material and / or an electron transport material and an organic light-emitting material are doped into the compound represented by the above chemical formula I, chemical formula II or chemical formula III or a derivative thereof or a mixture thereof as a matrix. Is a layer. The hole transport material, the electron transport material, and the organic light emitting material are not limited as long as they are stable by molecular dispersion in the matrix. Specifically, as the hole transport material, triphenylenediamine derivative (TPD), PVK, etc., as the electron transport material, aluminum oxine complex (Alq), oxadiazole derivative, etc., as the organic light emitting material, R ( Red) for the following chemical formula:
[Chemical 8]
[0034]
DCM1, phenoxazone, Nile red, and the like represented by the formula are coumarin 6, coumarin 7 etc. for G (green), oxadiazole derivatives, tetraphenylcyclopentadiene, tetraphenylbutadiene, Zn (oxz) for B (blue) ) 2 ; compounds such as oxz = oxazole can be used. The amount of the organic light-emitting substance added varies greatly depending on the light-emitting substance, but is generally between 0.0001 wt% and 60 wt% of the total solid content. Generally, it is preferably around 1% by weight.
[0035]
As the back electrode, an alloy thin film such as MgAg or AlLi, a thin film having a two-layer structure of Mg and Al, or a thin film such as Al can be used.
[0036]
The organic EL element can be basically manufactured by the following process.
[0037]
(1) First, ITO transparent electrodes are formed in stripes at a predetermined pitch on a transparent substrate. The pitch is determined by the size of the panel used. For example, if it is 20 inches, it will be about 200 μm.
[0038]
(2) Next, a compound represented by the above chemical formula I, chemical formula II or chemical formula III, a derivative thereof, or a mixture thereof is prepared. This, an organic light emitting material, a hole transport material, and an electron transport material are dissolved and mixed in a solvent to prepare a light emitting layer preparation solution. As the solvent, chloroform, dichloroethane, n-methylpropane, N-methylpyrrolidone and the like can be used.
[0039]
Using this solution, it is applied to a substrate on which a transparent electrode such as ITO is formed and dried to form a light emitting layer. As the film forming method, various film forming methods such as a spin coating method and a dip method can be applied.
[0040]
(3) Next, the substrate on which the light emitting layer is formed is exposed and exposed using a mask having a predetermined pattern, and then developed with chloroform, dichloroethane, n-methylpropane or the like (non-cured material-soluble solvent). As the light for exposure, 365 nm is suitable, but a shorter wavelength may be used.
[0041]
(4) Finally, the back electrode is formed in a predetermined pattern. For example, a simple matrix is formed so as to cross the ITO transparent electrode. The back electrode generally uses a vapor deposition method, but is not limited thereto. The formed electrode film is arranged in a predetermined pattern by edging to create an element. The patterning accuracy is about ± 5 μm. 1 and 2 are a schematic sectional view and a perspective view of a basic structure of an organic EL element (panel).
[0042]
(5) Considering durability and handleability, seal with resin, germanium dioxide or the like as appropriate.
[0043]

[0045]
Next, the glass substrate on which the ITO transparent electrode was formed was washed, and the above solution was applied on the entire surface by a spin coating method and dried at 80 ° C. for 30 seconds to form a 1000 膜 film. Next, a disk-shaped mask having a diameter of 10 mm is set at the center of the coated substrate, and after UV exposure of 200 to 1000 mj, the coated substrate is immersed in 1,2-dichloroethane, and a light emitting layer is formed only at the center.
