【発明の属する技術分野】
この発明はパルス管冷凍機に関し、さらに詳細にいえば、ダブルインレット型のパルス管冷凍機に関する。

【従来の技術】
従来から、低温の可動部を必要としない冷凍機としてパルス管冷凍機が知られている。
このパルス管冷凍機としては、圧縮機に対して、蓄冷器、パルス管およびリザーバータンクをこの順に直列接続してなる最も簡単な構成のものから、オリフィスバルブをさらに設けた構成のもの、オリフィスバルブおよびダブルインレットバルブをさらに設けた構成のものなどが知られている。

図1は、オリフィスバルブおよびダブルインレットバルブをさらに設けた従来のパルス管冷凍機の構成を示す概略図である。
このパルス管冷凍機は、圧縮機21に対して、蓄冷器22、パルス管23、オリフィスバルブ24およびリザーバータンク25をこの順に直列接続し、圧縮機21と蓄冷器22とを接続する第1接続管路26の所定位置とパルス管23、オリフィスバルブ24とを接続する第2接続管路27の所定位置との間にダブルインレットバルブ28を接続している。そして、蓄冷器22およびパルス管23を真空容器に収容しているとともに、真空容器のフランジ29を貫通させて蓄冷器22のアフタークーラー22aおよびパルス管23のホットエンド23aを外部に導出している。

ここで、アフタークーラー22aおよびホットエンド23aは熱交換器であり、外気との熱の授受を十分に行うことにより、冷凍能力を改善できることが知られている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
図1の構成のパルス管冷凍機では、アフタークーラー22aおよびホットエンド23aをフランジ29から十分に外部に突出させることにより、外部熱伝達を促進させ、冷凍能力を高めることができると思われているが、このような構成を採用しようとすれば、アフタークーラー22aおよびホットエンド23aを長くするか、または図2に示すように、蓄冷器22本体の一部およびアフタークーラー22aの一部がフランジ29を貫通するとともに、パルス管23本体の一部およびホットエンド23の一部がフランジ29を貫通する構成を採用することになる。

しかし、アフタークーラー22aおよびホットエンド23aを長くすれば、流体抵抗などが増加するので、冷凍能力が低下してしまうことになる。また、蓄冷器22本体の一部およびアフタークーラー22aの一部がフランジ29を貫通するとともに、パルス管23本体の一部およびホットエンド23の一部がフランジ29を貫通する構成を採用すれば、フランジ29と蓄冷器22本体、パルス管23本体が温度干渉して冷凍能力が低下してしまう。

また、後者の不都合の発生を防止するためにフランジ29の厚みを薄くすることが考えられる。しかし、フランジ29は真空容器本体に対する取り付けの必要上、Oリング、ボルトなどの装着が必須であり、これらを装着させるために必要最小限の厚みが定まるので、フランジ29をこの厚みよりも薄くすることは不可能である。

したがって、アフタークーラー22aおよびホットエンド23aの長さと、フランジ29の厚みとを適切に設定した場合であっても、上述の理由により設計上の冷凍能力を達成することができない。
なお、ダブルインレットバルブを設けていない構成のパルス管冷凍機においても、上記と同様の不都合が発生すると思われる。

【発明の目的】
この発明は上記の問題点に鑑みてなされたものであり、アフタークーラーおよびホットエンドの長さと、フランジの厚みとを適切に設定した場合に設計上の冷凍能力を達成することができるパルス管冷凍機を提供することを目的としている。

【課題を解決するための手段】
請求項1のパルス管冷凍機は、圧縮機に対して、少なくとも蓄冷器、パルス管およびリザーバータンクをこの順に直列接続し、蓄冷器とパルス管とを真空容器に収容し、かつ真空容器のフランジを貫通させて蓄冷器のアフタークーラーとパルス管のホットエンドとを外部に導出し、アフタークーラーの貫通部およびホットエンドの貫通部において、蓄冷器、パルス管とフランジとの温度干渉を低減すべくフランジを他の部分よりも薄肉に形成したものである。

請求項4のパルス管冷凍機であれば、前記ダブルインレットバルブとして、その両端部が蓄冷器のアフタークーラーとパルス管のホットエンドとにそれぞれ接続されたものを採用しているので、ダブルインレットバルブがガスの乱れの影響を殆ど受けず、パルス管内のガスカラムの位相制御を意図どおりに行うことができ、また、蓄冷器とダブルインレットバルブとの間およびパルス管とダブルインレットバルブとの間における無駄容量を大幅に低減して冷凍能力を向上させることができるほか、請求項2または請求項3と同様の作用を達成することができる。

【発明の実施の態様】
以下、添付図面を参照して、この発明のパルス管冷凍機の実施の態様を詳細に説明する。
図3は、この発明のパルス管冷凍機の一実施態様を示す概略図である。
このパルス管冷凍機は、圧縮機1に対して、蓄冷器2、パルス管3、オリフィスバルブ4およびリザーバータンク5をこの順に直列接続しているとともに、蓄冷器2とパルス管3とをバイパスするダブルインレットバルブ6を接続している。なお、蓄冷器2のアフタークーラー2aとパルス管3のホットエンド3aとは、所定厚みのフランジ7を貫通しているとともに、フランジ7よりも常温側に突出している。また、フランジ7は、蓄冷器2、パルス管3を収容する真空容器の一部を構成するものである。このフランジ7は、真空容器本体に対する取り付け、および気密保持のためのシール部材の取り付けに必要な最小限の厚みを有しているとともに、少なくともアフタークーラー2a、ホットエンド3aの貫通部の厚みを小さく設定して、蓄冷器2、パルス管3とフランジ7との温度干渉を防止するとともに、アフタークーラー2a、ホットエンド3aのフランジ7からの突出長さを長くしている。

なお、アフタークーラー2a、ホットエンド3aには、ガスの乱れを低減するストレーナ(図示せず)が設けられている。
蓄冷器2、パルス管3とフランジ7との関係についてさらに説明する。
蓄冷器2、パルス管3とフランジ7との接触部分は、機能上蓄冷器2、パルス管3の端面がフランジ7の下部と溶接される。なぜならば、蓄冷器2、パルス管3のそれぞれが温度勾配を持っているので、フランジ7の下部よりも上部で蓄冷器2、パルス管3を接続すると(換言すれば、蓄冷器2、パルス管3の端部をフランジ7の内部に侵入させた状態で蓄冷器2、パルス管3をフランジ7に接続すると)、蓄冷器2、パルス管3がフランジ7に接触している範囲で温度干渉が起こるのであり、このような不都合の発生を未然に防止するためである。また、蓄冷器2、パルス管3の常温端の熱交換器であるアフタークーラー2a、ホットエンド3aは、外気と接触する面積を可能な限り多くすることが好ましい。しかし、フランジ7の厚み分だけは、どうしても外気と接触させることができない。したがって、フランジ7を薄くすることにより、アフタークーラー2a、ホットエンド3aが外気と接触する面積を大きくすることが考えられる。しかし、フランジ7は、真空容器本体に対する取り付けのためにボルトなどを挿通しなければならないだけでなく、気密保持のためにOリングなどを装着しなければならないので、フランジ7を薄くすることには限界がある。本願では、これらの相反する要求を満足するために、フランジ7の厚みを全体的に薄くするのではなく、アフタークーラー2a、ホットエンド3aが貫通する部分のみを薄くしている。

上記の構成のパルス管冷凍機の作用は次のとおりである。
圧縮機1から供給される圧力ガスは、蓄冷器2を通してパルス管3に供給される。そして、パルス管3の一部のガスは、オリフィスバルブ4を通してリザーバータンク5に供給される。そして、圧縮機1からの圧力ガスの供給が停止されれば、ガスが上記と逆に流れる。また、パルス管3内のガスは、上記の動作に伴ってパルス管3から出入りするものと、上記の動作に拘らずパルス管3から出入りしないものとに区分され、後者のガスがディスプレーサ(ガスカラム)として機能する。したがって、上記の動作に伴ってガスの圧縮、断熱膨脹が反復され、パルス管3の低温端3bに寒冷が発生させられる。

また、オリフィスバルブ4およびダブルインレットバルブ6によりパルス管3のホットエンド3aでの位相差を大きくし、冷凍能力を高めることができる。さらに、蓄冷器2、パルス管3とフランジ7との温度干渉を排除し、しかもアフタークーラー2a、ホットエンド3aが外気と接触する面積を増加させることができ、この面からも冷凍能力を高めることができる。

図4はこの発明のパルス管冷凍機の他の実施態様を示す概略図であり、図3の実施態様と異なる点は、蓄冷器2のアフタークーラー2aとパルス管3のホットエンド3aとの間にダブルインレットバルブ6を接続した点のみである。
この実施態様を採用した場合には、ガスの一部がダブルインレットバルブ6を通して流れるのであり、しかもオリフィスバルブ4を通った後のガスの乱れがホットエンド3aのストレーナにより低減されるのであるから、ダブルインレットバルブ6はガスの乱れの影響を殆ど受けず、本来の機能を達成して、パルス管3のホットエンド3aでの位相差を大きくし、冷凍能力を高めることができる。

さらに詳細に説明する。
ダブルインレット型のパルス管冷凍機は、本来、安定した冷凍能力を制御するに当って他の因子に左右されることなくバルブ開度に応じたガス流量が確保されるべきであるが、図3に示す構成のパルス管冷凍機は、ダブルインレットバルブ6がストレーナ(蓄冷器2のアフタークーラー2a、パルス管3のホットエンド3a)の末端にあり、内部を通過してきたガスがオリフィスバルブ4の開度の影響を受けやすく、そのために、冷凍能力を予測することが困難になってしまう。具体的には、オリフィスバルブ4は、パルス管3内のガスカラム(ガスピストン)の位相制御(圧力との位置関係)を行うものであり、パルス管冷凍機を効率よく作動させるために非常に重要な構成要素である。ここで、オリフィス内部を通過するガスは、図5に示すように出口で乱れが生じる。そして、オリフィスのガス流量mは、次式によって規定される。

ただし、αは比例定数であり、ガスの物性が同じであれば、オリフィスの開口面積に比例する。P1は入口圧力、P2は出口圧力である。

したがって、式からも分かるように、ガス流量は、オリフィスの開口面積と出入り口圧力差によって決定される。しかし、上述のように、オリフィスの出口でガスの乱れが生じるので、互いにガスの干渉が起こり、位相制御が独立してうまく作動しない状態になってしまう。
また、蓄冷器2とダブルインレットバルブ6との間、およびパルス管3とダブルインレットバルブ6との間が無駄容量であり、この無駄容量がかなり多いのであるから、冷凍能力が低下し、十分な冷凍能力を発揮させることができなくなってしまう。

図4に示すパルス管冷凍機においては、蓄冷器2のアフタークーラー2aとパルス管3のホットエンド3aとの間にダブルインレットバルブ6を接続しているのであるから、オリフィスバルブ4の出口で生じたガスの乱れを大幅に低減し、ガスの干渉を大幅に低減して、オリフィスバルブ4、ダブルインレットバルブ6によるパルス管3内のガスカラムの位相制御を互いに独立して意図どおりに行うことができ、冷凍能力の予測を簡単に達成することができる。また、蓄冷器2のアフタークーラー2aとパルス管3のホットエンド3aとの間にダブルインレットバルブ6を接続しているのであるから、ダブルインレットバルブ6と蓄冷器2のアフタークーラー2aとの間の無駄容積、ダブルインレットバルブ6とパルス管3のホットエンド3aとの間の無駄容積を大幅に低減し、無駄容積の低減に伴う冷凍能力の向上を達成することができる。図7はダブルインレットバルブ6の装着位置とフランジ7との距離に対応する到達温度(冷凍による到達温度)の変化を示す図であり、無駄容積を低減することにより、到達温度を低くでき、冷凍能力を向上できたことが分かる。

また、上記の何れの実施態様のパルス管冷凍機においても、パルス管内のガスカラムをオリフィスバルブ4、ダブルインレットバルブ6によって位相制御し、最適な冷凍能力を得ようとしている。そして、ダブルインレットバルブ6内のガス流量は、ダブルインレットバルブ6の出入り口のガス圧力差と開閉度合いに依存して定まる。ここで、開閉度合いは、外部からの操作量により簡単に設定できるのに対して、出入り口のガス圧力差は蓄冷器2の抵抗値とパルス管3の抵抗値とに依存して定まる。しかし、従来は、両抵抗値の割合などの目安が存在していないので、出入り口のガス圧力差を最適値に設定することが困難であり、例えば、思考錯誤などによるしかなかった。

しかし、本願発明者は、蓄冷器2の抵抗値に対するパルス管3の抵抗値を変化させて冷凍能力の変化を測定し、蓄冷器2の抵抗値に対するパルス管3の抵抗値の割合を0.25以下の正の値に設定すればよいことを見出した。
さらに詳細に説明すると、蓄冷器2の抵抗値の調整はメッシュの枚数を変化させることにより行い、パルス管3の抵抗値の調整はホットエンド、低温端のストレーナ内に充填されているメッシュまたはそれに相当する充填物の枚数(量)を変化させることにより行う。そして、ダブルインレットバルブ6内のガス流量を一定値(例えば、15l/min)に設定した状態で、両抵抗値の比(パルス管側における圧力低下/蓄冷器側における圧力低下)を変化させて冷凍能力(QcoldW)を測定した。この測定の結果は、図6に示すとおりであり、0.25以下の正の値に設定することにより高い冷凍能力を達成できることが分かる。ただし、0.25以下、かつ0.15以上であることが好ましく、0.20以下、かつ0.15以上であることが最も好ましい。なお、抵抗値の測定は、例えば、定常流試験により行う。

したがって、両抵抗値の比を上述のように設定することにより、パルス管を最適設計することが容易になる。
なお、以上には、オリフィスバルブ4およびダブルインレットバルブ6を有するパルス管冷凍機について説明したが、オリフィスバルブ4、ダブルインレットバルブ6を有していないパルス管冷凍機、ダブルインレットバルブ6を有していないパルス管冷凍機についても同様に適用することが可能である。

請求項1の発明は、蓄冷器、パルス管とフランジとの温度干渉を排除して、アフタークーラーとホットエンドとの長さに基づいて定まる設計上の冷凍能力を達成することができ、しかも、真空容器本体に対するフランジの取り付けを良好に達成することができるという特有の効果を奏する。
