本発明は、経路案内を行うナビゲーション装置に係り、特に交差点に於ける進行方向の案内が判りやすいナビゲーション装置に関する。

【従来の技術】
従来より、道路地図を画面上に表示すると共に、自動車の現在位置や移動方向を検出して、道路地図上に自車の位置を表示するナビゲーション装置が実用化されている。そして、交差点に近づくと 図3に示すように自車が進行すべき進路を矢印等で表示する進路案内が行われている。

【発明が解決しょうとする課題】
しかし、交差点等での進路表示では単に地図上に進路方向を向いた矢印だけが表示されるだけであるので、目を引きにくい点、何の方向を示しているのかが明確でない点等から進むべき進路を素早く判断することが困難なことが多く、視認性があまりよくないと言う問題があった。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上記課題を解決するために本発明は、表示画面上に道路を表示し、自動車の現在位置や移動方向を検出して、道路地図上に自車の位置及び進路を案内するナビゲーション装置において、自車位置が交差点に接近したとき、表示画面に所定のキャラクタを道路地図上の案内すべき交差点の中央付近に静止した状態で表示し、該キャラクタは移動しないが、該キャラクタの一部が進行すべき方向を動的に指し示す動作を行うことによって進路の案内を行うように制御する表示制御手段を有することを特徴とする。

以下、図面を用いて本発明の一実施例を説明する。
図1は本発明の一実施例の構成を示した図である。1は複数の衛星からの信号(GPS信号)を受け位置を検出するグローバル ポジショニング システム(GPS)に於ける信号電波受信用アンテナで、このGPS電波受信用アンテナ1により受信された信号はGPS受信機2に入力される。そして、GPS受信機2は受信したGPS信号から位置を演算して出力する。

3は方位磁石等からなる方位センサであり車両の進行方向に応じた信号を出力する。4は車両の走行速度を示す信号を出力する車速センサ(走行距離センサ)であり、車軸に設けられた磁石に反応して接断し、車軸の回転に応じて信号を出力するリードスイッチ等により構成される。
6は地図データを供給するための記憶装置であるCDプレーヤで、記録媒体であるCD?ROMに書き込まれた地図データを出力する。7は地図、経路案内情報等を表示する表示装置で、液晶表示装置やCRTより構成される。

図2は進路誘導員を模擬した誘導員キャラクタCによる進路案内表示で、誘導員キャラクタC自体は道路に沿って移動はしないが、実際の誘導員と同様の動き、即ち、進行すべき方向に手を振って示す動作を行うものである。従って 図2による表示では、誘導員による案内と類似した案内表示が行われるため、非常に判りやすい案内となる。

尚、上記表示例では右折時の表示を例に挙げたが、左折、直進等も移動方向は異なるが同様の表示となる。又、 図2に示したキャラクタの形状や動きに関するデータ(プログラム)はメモリ9に記憶されている。
次にマイコン5の行う処理について、 図4のフローチャートにより説明する。マイコン5はナビゲーション装置を動作させることで処理動作を開始する。ステップS1では自車位置及び地図データに基づいて交差点に近づいたことを検知すると、ステップS2に移り、検知しなければステップS1に戻り、判断を繰り返す。ステップS2では、表示装置7上に表示していた地図を、接近した交差点の自車が侵入する方向から見た形状で表示するイメージ画面に切り換えステップS3に移る。尚、この表示は表示装置7上に表示していた地図の一部にイメージ画面を重ねて(置き換えて)表示してもよい。

ステップS3では、交差点のイメージ画面に重ねて 図2に示した様なキャラクタを表示し、ステップS4に移る。ステップS4では、表示したキャラクタを予め設定した動作方法により移動させたりする処理を行いステップS5に移る。ステップS5では交差点を通過したかどうかを検出し、交差点を通過していなければステップS4に戻り、交差点を通過していればステップS6に移る。

ステップS6では、交差点のイメージ表示、キャラクタの表示を止めて元の地図を表示装置7上に表示してステップS1に戻る。

以上詳細に説明したように本発明におけるナビゲーション装置では、誘導するような動的な表示で進路案内が行われるので、進むべき道を即座に判断でき、視認性が向上する。
