Description
【0001】

Y’ = Y−α・min(Y,M,C)
M’ = M−α・min(Y,M,C)
C’ = C−α・min(Y,M,C)
Bk = α・min(Y,M,C)
FIFO(First In First Out)メモリに一時的に蓄えられ、ライン1とライン2のデータが出力される。
パターン生成回路421で生成した階調パターンの書込み値をLD〔i〕(i=0,1,…,9) 、記録紙に形成されたパターンをスキャナ420で読み取った読み取り値(r〔t〕〔i〕,g〔t〕〔i〕,b〔t〕〔i〕)(t=Y,M,CまたはK,i=0,1,…,9)とする。
【0096】
参照データは、階調変換テーブルへの入力値n(n=0,1,2,…,255)とスキャナの読み取り値(r〔t〕〔i〕,g〔t〕〔i〕,b〔t〕〔i〕)の目標値である。
【0099】
【0100】
補間の一例として、n〔i〕≦n≦n〔i+1〕となるn〔i〕,n〔i+1〕(n=1〜20に対しては、i=0,n〔0〕=0,n〔1〕=21)に対応する参照データ
【0104】
(Ar1〔C〕〔n〔i〕〕,Ag1〔C〕〔n〔i〕〕,Ab1〔C〕〔n〔i〕〕)は、それぞれ補正後の参照データのRGB成分を表し、(Ar〔t〕〔n〔i〕〕,Ag〔t〕〔n〔i〕〕,Ab〔t〕〔n〔i〕〕)は、補正前の参照データである。
(Ar1〔C〕〔n〔i〕〕,Ag1〔C〕〔n〔i〕〕,Ab1〔C〕〔n〔i〕〕)を新たな(Ar〔t〕〔n〔i〕〕,Ag〔t〕〔n〔i〕〕,Ab〔t〕〔n〔i〕〕)として、以下で用いる。
【0110】
Ar〔t〕〔i〕,Ag〔t〕〔i〕,Ab〔t〕〔i〕のうち、各トナーに対するそれぞれの補色の参照データAb〔t〕〔i〕,Ag〔t〕〔i〕、Ar〔t〕〔i〕を用いる。
【0112】
A〔t〕〔n〔i〕〕(0≦n〔i〕≦255;i=1,2,…,10;t=C,M,Y)を用いて表す。
【0114】
同様に、読み取り信号も補色の画像信号のみを用いて、a〔t〕〔i〕(i=0,1,…,9;t=C,M,Y,K)で表す。
【0115】
また、ある色のトナーt(t=C,M,Y,K)に対する、参照データA〔t〕〔i〕とLDの書込み値a〔t〕〔i〕とを、以下では、A〔i〕と a〔i〕と略して表記する。
【0116】
ここでは、n〔i〕=11〔h〕×i(i=0,1,…,imax=15)とする。
【0127】
A〔i〕(i=i2+1,…,imax−1)(i2≧i1,i2≦imax−1)、補正を行う参照データA〔i〕(i=i1+1,…,i2)とする。
【0128】
Δref = A〔i1〕−A〔i2+1〕 ‥‥‥(式5)
【0129】
Δdet = A〔i1〕−mmax ‥‥‥(式6)
【0130】
A〔n〔j〕〕(0≦n〔j〕≦255、j=0,1,…jmax、n〔j〕≦n〔k〕 for j≦k)を次のようにする。すなわち、n〔j〕≦n〔i〕<n〔j+1〕となるj(0≦j≦jmax)を求める。
【0132】
m〔i〕=f(n〔i〕)
とする。
【0136】
a〔LD〔k〕〕≧a〔LD〔k+1〕〕
となる。
【0138】
【0140】
また、a〔LD〔k〕〕≧m〔i〕>a〔LD〔k+1〕〕となるLD〔k〕に対しては、数3の式とする。
【0141】
【0142】
これにより、YMCK階調変換テーブルへの入力値n〔i〕と出力値LD〔i〕の組(n〔i〕,LD〔i〕)(i=0,1,…,15)が求められる。
【0143】
なお、図中の○a(○の中に文字aがある符号、以降、○a等のように記載する)は検知時に用いられるレーザ出力と画像入力信号との関係を表す。
【0152】
(M/A)i〔mg/cm2〕(i=1,2,..,np)に換算する。
m1 = −ln(VSP/VSG)/β
β = −6.0×103〔cm2 /g〕
(M/A)i=a×Vsi+b (Vpi≧Vpc)
(M/A)i=a×(Vsi−VDC)+b (Vpi≧Vpc)
(M/A)i≦(M/A)Cを満たす付着量範囲としても同じである。
【0160】
(M/A)MIN≦(M/A)i≦(M/A)Cを満たす感光体102上トナー付着量の検知結果について、前述した式の係数a,bを決定する。
【0161】
Vpc≦Vp≦Vpmax
次に、トナー付着量(M/A)iが(M/A)MIN≦(M/A)i≦(M/A)Cを満たすか否かを判定し(ステップS42,ステップS43)、条件を満たした場合に、トナー付着量(M/A)iと電位出力Vsiから関数式(M/A)i=f(Vsi)の係数(前述した係数a,b)を求める(ステップS44)。
【0163】
次に、(M/A)i>(M/A)Cとなったか否かを判定し(ステップS45)、条件を満たせば、電位出力Vsiから関数式(M/A)i=f(Vsi)を用いてトナー付着量(M/A)iを求める(ステップS46)。
【0164】
(M/A)≦(M/A)Cと対応し、|ΔVp/Δ(M/A)|>|ΔVp/Δ(M/A)|0 が、(M/A)i≦(M/A)Cに対応する。
【0166】
P=Pmax/FF(h)×n
である。
【0174】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image output system including an image forming apparatus such as a digital copying machine, a printer apparatus, and a facsimile apparatus and a print control apparatus. More specifically, the present invention relates to image data from an external apparatus via a print control apparatus. The present invention relates to an image output system for outputting an image by a printer unit of an image forming apparatus.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In a digital image forming apparatus such as an electrophotographic color copying machine, it is necessary that a good image is maintained even with time and environmental changes. However, the image density and gradation reproducibility fluctuate due to changes in the surrounding environment such as temperature and humidity, deterioration with time of the developer used, the photoconductor, and the like. For this reason, in order to correct this variation and obtain a stable image density and gradation reproducibility at all times, the image density and gradation (variation) are detected in the machine, and correction is performed using the gradation conversion table. ing.
[0003]
Also, many print control apparatuses for outputting an image to the image forming apparatus have a gradation conversion function and are general. Therefore, when image output is performed by the printer unit of the image forming apparatus via the print control apparatus, the image data is subjected to gradation conversion in the print control apparatus, dithered, and then the gradation inside the image forming apparatus. The tone is converted using the conversion table, and an image is formed on the recording paper.
[0004]
On the other hand, in “Print Control Device” of Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 9-141942, an image processing unit that performs gradation conversion in the print control device for the purpose of removing variations in characteristics unique to the printing device (image forming device). Are provided. Here, removal of variations inherent to the printing device specifically means absorbing the difference in output density characteristics due to individual differences, adjusting the maximum density of the image, and preventing deterioration of print quality due to toner dust. Is to adjust.
[0005]
Further, in “Image Forming Method and Apparatus” of JP-A-7-261479, the first calibration (image density calibration) is performed for a system including both a scanner (reading unit) and a printer (image forming unit). After performing this, a printer that performs second calibration (image density calibration) by the printer unit alone is disclosed.
[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, according to the above conventional technique, there are the following problems as adverse effects caused by executing the gradation conversion in two places in the print control apparatus and the image forming apparatus.
[0007]
First, there has been a problem in that the gradation error is increased and gradation data may be lost by performing gradation conversion twice. Specifically, YMCK gradation conversion in the image forming apparatus is performed through image signal processing such as YMCK gradation conversion and gradation processing (dither processing) in the print control apparatus. Compared with the case where tone conversion is not performed, there is a problem that tone stability and tone linearity, which are the effects of dither processing, are lost. For example, there may be a difference in highlights (when the toner adhesion amount is small).
[0008]
Second, since gradation conversion is performed twice, there is a problem in that pseudo contours are likely to occur in the output image.
[0009]
Also, according to Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 9-141942 “Print Control Device”, the image processing means for performing gradation conversion is provided in the print control device, thereby eliminating the time required for parameter communication and increasing the speed. In addition, it absorbs the difference in characteristics due to variations inherent in the printing device, adjusts the maximum density of the image, and can be adjusted to prevent deterioration in print quality due to toner dust. However, the output density characteristics in the image forming apparatus cannot be corrected over time.
[0010]
Further, according to “Image Forming Method and Apparatus” of Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 7-261479, although the image quality is stabilized by a plurality of types of calibration, there are two levels in the print control apparatus and the image forming apparatus. It did not eliminate the harmful effects of executing key conversion.
[0011]
The present invention has been made in view of the above, and in an image output system that outputs image data from an external apparatus through a print control apparatus at a printer unit of an image forming apparatus, gradation that is an effect of dither processing An object is to maintain stability and linearity of gradation, reduce the occurrence of pseudo contours, and guarantee stability over time.

[0019]
[Embodiment 1]

YMC And a UCR processing unit for replacing the portion where the three colors of YMC overlap with Bk (black). That is, the color correction process can be realized by performing a matrix operation as shown in the following equation.
[0039]
[Expression 1]
[0040]
Here, bar R, bar G, and bar B indicate the complements of R, G, and B, respectively. The matrix coefficient aij is determined by the spectral characteristics of the input system and the output system (color material). Here, the primary masking equation is taken as an example. 2 By using a quadratic term such as a bar BG or a higher-order term, color correction can be performed with higher accuracy. The arithmetic expression may be changed depending on the hue, or the Neugebauer equation may be used. In any method, Y, M, and C can be obtained from the values of bar R, bar G, and bar B (or B, G, and R may be used).
[0041]
On the other hand, UCR processing can be performed by calculating using the following equation.
Y ′ = Y−α · min (Y, M, C)
M ′ = M−α · min (Y, M, C)
C ′ = C−α · min (Y, M, C)
Bk = α · min (Y, M, C)
In the above equation, α is a coefficient that determines the amount of UCR, and when α = 1, 100% UCR processing is performed. α may be a constant value. For example, when α is close to 1 in the high density portion and close to 0 in the highlight portion (low image density portion), the image in the highlight portion can be smoothed.

[0078]
(3) -1 Automatic gradation correction of image density (gradation)
First, the operation of automatic gradation correction (ACC: Auto Color Calibration) of image density (gradation property) will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG. 13 and FIGS. FIG. 13 shows an operation flowchart of the image density ACC, FIG. 13 shows a schematic configuration of the

Here, when copy use is selected, the gradation correction table used when using copy is changed in the subsequent processing based on the reference data. When the printer use is selected, the gradation correction table when using the printer is changed. Changed based on reference data.
[0081]
Subsequently, when the print start key is selected on the screen of FIG. 16, a plurality of density gradation patterns corresponding to the YMCK color, character, and picture quality modes are formed on the recording paper as shown in FIG. . This density gradation pattern is stored and set in advance in the
[0082]
Here, the written values of the patterns are 16 patterns of 00h, 11h: 22h,..., EEh, FFh in hexadecimal notation. In FIG. 17, patches (toner patterns) for five gradations are displayed except for the background portion, but any value can be selected from the 8-bit signals of 00h-FFh. In the character mode, a dithering process such as pattern processing is not performed, and a pattern is formed with 256 tones per dot. In the photographic mode, for example, a scale in units of a total of 2 pixels of 2 main scanning pixels × 1 sub-scanning pixel Use key processing. Two pixels in the main scanning direction are grouped, and the image signal of the pixel on the near side in the main scanning direction is N1, the image signal of the pixel on the far side in the main scanning direction is N2, and the image signal of the pixel on the near side after processing Is N1 ′, and the image signal of the back side pixel after processing is N2 ′,
N1 ′ = 2 × N1 (0 ≦ N1 ≦ 32)
N1 ′ = N1 + 32 (32 <N1 ≦ 223)

N2 ′ = 0 (0 ≦ N2 ≦ 32)

Subsequently, a selection screen (not shown) for determining whether to perform background data processing is displayed on the liquid crystal screen of the
[0087]
It is determined whether or not the above processing has been completed for each color of YMCK (step S10), and if it has been completed, it is next determined whether or not the above processing has been completed for each picture and character image quality mode. (Step S11) If completed, the created gradation conversion table is sent to the printer controller 419 (Step S12). In step S5 to step S12, the screen shown in FIG. 19 is displayed during each process after selection on each selection screen.
[0088]
As shown in FIG. 15, if the result of image formation using the YMCK tone correction table after the processing is not desirable, the YMCK tone correction table before the processing can be selected as shown in FIG. “Undo” is displayed on the screen.
[0089]
▲ 3 ▼ -2 Background correction
Next, background correction will be described. The following two can be cited as the purpose of the background correction process.
[0090]
First, the whiteness of the recording paper used during ACC is corrected. This is because even if an image is formed on the same machine at the same time, the value read by the
[0091]
Second, when the thickness of the recording paper (paper thickness) used at the time of ACC is thin, the color of the pressure plate or the like that presses the recording paper is seen through and read by the
[0092]
In order to prevent the above problems, the read image signal of the pattern portion is corrected from the read image signal of the paper background portion based on the image signal of the paper background portion.
[0093]
On the other hand, there is an advantage even when the above background correction processing is not performed, and when recording paper with a large amount of yellow components is always used, such as recycled paper, it is better not to perform correction for colors containing yellow components. In some cases, color reproduction may be improved. In addition, when only the recording paper having a thin paper thickness is always used, there is an advantage that the gradation correction table is created in accordance with the thin paper.
[0094]
Therefore, whether or not to correct the background can be selected by turning ON / OFF the correction of the background on a predetermined selection screen (not shown) according to the user's situation and preference. .
[0095]
(3) -3 Creation of composite gradation conversion table
Next, a method for creating a composite gradation conversion table set in the
[0096]
The reference data includes the input value n (n = 0, 1, 2,..., 255) to the gradation conversion table and the read values of the scanner (r [t] [i], g [t] [i], b [ t] [i]). Here, the reference data is expressed as follows.
Ar [t] [n] (0 ≦ n ≦ 255, t = Y, M, C or K)
[0097]
In the above (Equation 1), Ar, Ag, and Ab are reference data for the Red signal, Green signal, and Blue signal, respectively, and YMCK represents the color of the toner. The above (Equation 1) holds the reference data corresponding to 256 values from 0 to 255 values in the memory in the 8-bit signal processing. It represents that.
[0098]
By storing 256 pieces of reference data in the memo as described above, the processing described later can be simplified. In order to save the amount of memory for storing the reference data, As shown in (Formula 2), n [0] = 0, n [i] = 26 × i-5 (i = 1, 2... 10) as an example, some n [i] (in this case , A set of 16 values and corresponding reference data (expression 1) is stored in the memory, and n (expression 2) other than n [i] (i = 0, 1, 2,... 10) is stored. Then, the reference data Ar [t] [n [i]] etc. for n = 1 to 20 etc. may be calculated by performing interpolation as will be described later.
[0099]
[0100]
As an example of interpolation, n [i], n [i + 1] satisfying n [i] ≦ n ≦ n [i + 1] (for n = 1 to 20, i = 0, n [0] = 0, n Obtained by performing interpolation using reference data Ar, g, b [t] [n [i]], Ar, g, b [t] [n [i + 1]] corresponding to [1] = 21) Can do.
[0101]
On the other hand, in the
k [s] [t] [s = R, G or B; t = Y, M, C or K]
Is remembered. Here, k [s] [t] takes a value near 1. However, it is held as integer data in the copying machine as follows.
k [s] [t] = k1 [s] [t] / 2 n (K1 [s] [t] is an integer)
For example, n = 10, 2 n (
[0102]
FIG. 20 is an explanatory diagram illustrating an example of k [s] [t] values that are correction values of RGB signals. The correction data of the RGB signals shown in FIG. 20 are displayed on the display screen of the
[0103]
As an example, a case where t = C (cyan) will be described. The RGB components of the cyan toner reference data are corrected as in the following (Equation 3).
[0104]
Here, (Ar1 [C] [n [i]], Ag1 [C] [n [i]], Ab1 [C] [n [i]]) represent the RGB components of the corrected reference data, respectively. , (Ar [t] [n [i]], Ag [t] [n [i]], Ab [t] [n [i]]) are reference data before correction. Ar [W], Ag [W], and Ab [W] are RGB signals when white (the brightest color for the scanner to be used) is read. This value is in the range of 0 to 255 when the read value is an 8-bit signal, where 0 is the darkest image density (scanner CCD when reading an object with low reflectance or transmittance). The 255 value has the brightest image density (the amount of light detected by the CCD of the value scanner when reading an object having a high reflectance or transmittance) and a value in the vicinity of the 255 value.
[0105]
Although the accuracy is slightly lower than in the above case, in actual use, Ar [W] = Ar [C] [0], Ag [W] = Ag [C] [0], Ab [0] ] = Ab [C] [0].
[0106]
Here, Ar [C] [0], Ag [C] [0], and Ab [C] [0] are values obtained by reading the background portion of the paper. When reading the background of the paper, it is possible to prevent the accuracy from deteriorating by taking care not to darken the paper backing on the back side of the paper (so-called white back). .
[0107]
As another correction method, similarly, when an example in the case of t = C (cyan) is shown, it is practically possible to perform processing as in (Expression 4). However, in this case, correction is not performed when i = 0, n [0] = 0, that is, when the input value to the gradation correction table is 0.
[0108]
The values of k [r] [C], k [g] [C], k [b] [C] used in (Equation 4) and k [r] [C], used in (Equation 3) k [g] [C] and k [b] [C] are not the same numerical value, and it is necessary to change the numerical value to an appropriate value depending on the formula used.
[0109]
In order to simplify the processing, the above formula (Ar1 [C] [n [i]], Ag1 [C] [n [i]], Ab1 [C] [n [i]]) is newly added. (Ar [t] [n [i]], Ag [t] [n [i]], Ab [t] [n [i]]) are used below.
[0110]
A method of generating a gradation conversion table (LUT) created at the time of ACC execution and set in the
[0111]
Since the complementary color image signals of the YMC toners are blue, green and red, respectively, the reference data Ar [t] [i], Ag [t] [i] and Ab [ Of t] [i], the complementary color reference data Ab [t] [i], Ag [t] [i], and Ar [t] [i] for each toner are used.
[0112]
The above handling is effective when the spectral (reflectance) characteristics of the toner to be used do not change significantly (that is, when the color does not change).
[0113]
In order to simplify the following description, A [t] [n [i]] (0 ≦ n [i] ≦ 255; i = 1, 2,..., 10; t = C, M, Y) It expresses using. For black toner, sufficient accuracy can be obtained by using any of RGB image signals, but here, a G (green) component is used.
[0114]
Similarly, the read signal is represented by a [t] [i] (i = 0, 1,..., 9; t = C, M, Y, K) using only complementary color image signals.
[0115]
In addition, reference data A [t] [i] and LD write value a [t] [i] for a toner t of a certain color (t = C, M, Y, K) are expressed as A [i ] And a [i].
[0116]
The YMCK gradation conversion table is obtained by comparing a [LD] and A [n] described above. Here, n is an input value to the YMCK gradation conversion table, and reference data A [n] obtained by correcting the RGB signal is output as a laser writing value LD [i] after the input value n is converted to YMCK gradation. This is the target value of the read image signal obtained by reading the YMC toner pattern read by the scanner. Here, there are two types of reference data obtained by correcting RGB signals: reference data that is corrected according to image density that can be output by the printer, and reference data that is not corrected. The determination as to whether or not to perform correction is made based on data for determination described later stored in the ROM or RAM in advance (this correction will be described later).
[0117]
The laser output value LD [n] corresponding to the input value n to the YMCK gradation conversion table is obtained by obtaining the LD corresponding to the reference data A [n]. By obtaining this with respect to the input values i = 0, 1,..., 255 (in the case of an 8-bit signal), a gradation conversion table can be obtained.
[0118]
At this time, instead of performing the above processing on all values for the input values n = 00h, 01h,..., FFh (hexadecimal number) for the YMCK gradation conversion table, n [i] = 0, 11h, 22h ,..., FFh, the above processing is performed, and other points are interpolated by a spline function or the like (a gradation conversion table is created) or stored in the
[0119]
Here, the above processing will be described with reference to FIG. In the figure, the horizontal axis of the first quadrant (a) is the input value n to the YMCK gradation conversion table, and the vertical axis is the read value (after processing) of the
[0120]
In addition, the horizontal axis of the second quadrant (b) represents the read value (after processing) of the
[0121]
The vertical axis of the third quadrant (c) represents the written value of the laser beam (LD). This data a [LD] represents the characteristics of the printer unit. Further, the LD writing values of the pattern to be actually formed are 16 points of 00h (background), 11h, 22h,... EEh, FFh, and show skipping values. Interpolate and treat as a continuous graph.
[0122]
The graph (d) of the fourth quadrant is a YMCK gradation conversion table LD [i], and the purpose is to obtain this table.
[0123]
The vertical axis and horizontal axis of the graph (f) are the same as the vertical axis and horizontal axis of the graph (d). When forming a gradation pattern for detection, the YMCK gradation conversion table (g) shown in the graph (f) is used.
[0124]
The horizontal axis of the graph (e) is the same as that of the third quadrant (c) and represents the relationship between the LD writing value at the time of gradation pattern creation and the reading value (after processing) of the
[0125]
Reference data A [n] is obtained for a certain input value n, and an LD output LD [n] for obtaining A [n] is used as an arrow in the figure by using a gradation pattern read value a [LD]. Obtain along (l).
[0126]
Next, the calculation procedure will be described based on FIG. FIG. 23 is a flowchart showing a procedure for creating a gradation conversion table when ACC is executed. First, an input value necessary for obtaining the YMCK gradation conversion table is determined (step S21). Here, n [i] = 11 [h] × i (i = 0, 1,..., Imax = 15).
[0127]
Subsequently, the reference data A [n] is corrected using the correction values k [s] [t] of the RGB signal in the above-described procedure (step S22), and the image that the
[0128]
In the following, a specific calculation method will be described on the assumption that the image signal is proportional to the document reflectance without RGB-γ conversion. Among the reference data that is not corrected, the difference between the reference data A [i2 + 1] having the lowest image density in the high image density portion and the reference data A [i1] having the highest image density in the low image density portion. Δref is obtained. That is, the data difference Δref is obtained as in the following (formula 5). Here, Δref> 0 in the case of reflectance linearity or lightness linearity that does not perform RGBγ conversion, which is inversion processing.
Δref = A [i1] −A [i2 + 1] (Formula 5)
[0129]
On the other hand, the difference Δdet is similarly obtained from the read value mmax of the pattern that can obtain the maximum image density that can be created by the printer unit. That is, the data difference Δdet is obtained as in the following (formula 6).
Δdet = A [i1] −mmax (Equation 6)
[0130]
Thereby, the reference data A [i] (i = i1 + 1,..., I2) obtained by correcting the high density portion from (Expression 5) and (Expression 6) can be expressed by the following (Expression 7).
[0131]
Subsequently, the target value m [i] of the reading value of the
[0132]
In the case of an 8-bit image signal, calculation is performed by obtaining reference data as n [0] = 0, n [jmax] = 255, n [jmax + 1] = n [jmax] +1, and A [jmax + 1] = A [jmax]. Will be easier.
[0133]
M [i] is obtained from (Equation 8) from j obtained as described above.
[0134]
In addition, as for the interval of the reference data, the accuracy of the finally obtained gradation conversion table is higher when n [j] is as small as possible.
[0135]
Here, interpolation is performed using a linear expression, but interpolation may be performed using a higher-order function or a spline function. In that case,
m [i] = f (n [i])
And
[0136]
In the case of a k-order function, for example, the following equation is used.
[Expression 2]
[0137]
Subsequently, the LD write value LD [i] for obtaining the target value m [i] obtained in step S24 is obtained from the pattern read value a [i] in the same procedure as in step S24 (step S25). For example, when an image signal that has not been subjected to RGBγ conversion is processed, a [LD] decreases as the value of LD increases. That is,
LD [k] <LD [k + 1]
Against
a [LD [k]] ≧ a [LD [k + 1]]
It becomes.
[0138]
Here, the values at the time of pattern formation were set to 10 values of LD [k] = 00h, 11h, 22h,..., 66h, 88h, AAh, FFh, (k = 0, 1,..., 9). This is because the change in the reading value of the
[0139]
Advantages of this include that the toner consumption can be suppressed as compared with the case where the number of patterns is increased, such as LD [k] = 00h, 11h, 22h,... EEh, FFh (16 points in total), and high image quality. In the density region, the reading value is likely to be reversed due to the small change in the LD writing value, potential unevenness on the photoconductor, toner adhesion unevenness, fixing unevenness, potential unevenness, etc. Narrowing the width is not necessarily effective in improving the accuracy, and thus the pattern was formed with the LD writing value as described above.
[0140]
Also, for LD [k] where a [LD [k]] ≧ m [i]> a [LD [k + 1]], the equation of
[Equation 3]
[0141]
When 0 ≦ k ≦ kmax (kmax> 0) and a [LD [kmax]]> m [i] (when the image density of the target value obtained from the reference data is high),
[Expression 4]
As a prediction, extrapolation is performed using a linear expression. In addition to the linear expression, extrapolation may be performed by other methods such as logarithm.
[0142]
Thus, a set (n [i], LD [i]) (i = 0, 1,..., 15) of the input value n [i] and the output value LD [i] to the YMCK gradation conversion table is obtained. .
[0143]
Next, based on (n [i], LD [i]) (i = 0, 1,..., 15) obtained in step S25, interpolation is performed using a spline function or the like, or in the ROM An existing gradation conversion table is selected (step S26).
[0144]
(4) Method for creating gradation conversion table for printer
Next, a method for creating a printer gradation conversion table to be set in the image forming printer
[0145]
First, the development characteristic detection process will be described with reference to FIG.

Next, the density gradation pattern formed on the
[0147]
Here, as an example, the laser output used for detection is an image signal value (hexadecimal number display), which is 00 (h), 10 (h), 20 (h), 30 (h), 40 (h), 50 (H), 60 (h), 70 (h), 90 (h), B0 (h), D0 (h), and FF (h) are used.
[0148]
Next, as an example of gradation processing, gradation processing in units of a total of two pixels of 2 main scanning pixels × 1 sub-scanning pixel will be described.
N1 ′ = 255 (223 <N1 ≦ 225)
N2 ′ = 0 (0 ≦ N2 ≦ 32)
N2 ′ = N2-32 (32 <N2 ≦ 223)
N2 ′ = 2 × N2-255 (223 <N1 ≦ 225)
The gradation processing described above is used.
[0149]
Next, a method for correcting an image signal will be described with reference to FIG.
In the graph a), the vertical axis represents the laser output (or image output signal), and the horizontal axis represents the output of the
[0150]
In graph b), the vertical axis represents the laser output as in graph a), and the horizontal axis represents the surface potential of the photoreceptor. This represents the light attenuation characteristic of the photoreceptor. Similar to the graph a), this is obtained by measuring the surface potential when the np density gradation pattern latent images are formed on the
[0151]
Graph c) represents a gradation conversion table used in the image forming unit, where the horizontal axis in the figure is an image input signal (which is, for example, an amount proportional to the density of the original image), and the vertical axis is the laser output or It represents an image signal (image output signal) after the image input signal is converted by the gradation conversion table. Here, the image input signal has a resolution of 8 bits (256 values), and the laser writing light quantity similarly has a resolution of 8 (-10) bits between the minimum value and the maximum value of the laser. In the figure, ○ a (a symbol having a letter a in ○, hereinafter referred to as ○ a) represents the relationship between the laser output used at the time of detection and the image input signal.

In the graph d), the vertical axis represents the toner adhesion amount on the

In the graph e), the vertical axis represents the toner adhesion amount, and the horizontal axis represents the surface potential of the
[0154]
Graph f) represents the relationship of the toner adhesion amount on the
[0155]
Using the relationship of graph d), the output Vpi of the optical sensor is determined as the toner adhesion amount on the photoreceptor.
(M / A) Converted to i [mg / cm2] (i = 1, 2,..., Np). This is calculated | required by the method described below as an example.
[0156]
The reflected light of the toner image formed on the
m 1 = -Ln (VSP / VSG) / β
β = −6.0 × 103 [cm 2 / G]
From this relationship, the toner adhesion amount is converted. Here, β is a constant determined by the optical sensor and the toner, and the above value is the value of the black toner. The same can be done for yellow, cyan and magenta. Here, calculation is performed, but conversion may be performed using a lookup table created in advance.
[0157]
By the above method, the relationship between the photoreceptor surface potential Vsi and the toner adhesion amount (M / A) i on the photoreceptor is obtained, and the development characteristic i in the graph e) is obtained.
[0158]
However, as shown in the graph d), the output of the optical sensor is constant in a toner adhesion amount region ((M / A) ≧ (M / A) C) higher than a certain toner adhesion amount (M / A) C. The value Vpmin is indicated. On the other hand, for an image input signal equal to or greater than the image input signal n in the graph c) in the figure, the surface potential of the

Therefore, the following correction is performed to compensate for the deviation between the actual development characteristic and the development characteristic obtained from the detected value.
When the detection value Vpi of the
(M / A) i = a × Vsi + b (Vpi ≧ Vpc)
Alternatively, the DC component of the development bias is VDC,
(M / A) i = a × (Vsi−VDC) + b (Vpi ≧ Vpc)
Is used. Here, a and b are coefficients, which are determined from the values of Vsi and (M / A) i using a method such as a least square method. If the toner adhesion amount on the

Here, the toner adhesion amount is used, but the detection output of the
Vpc ≦ Vp ≦ Vpmax
The coefficients a and b in the above-described formula may be determined from the toner adhesion area corresponding to the toner adhesion area that satisfies the above.
[0162]
The above development characteristic prediction processing is summarized in a flowchart as shown in FIG. First, the detection output Vpi of the
[0163]
Next, it is determined whether or not (M / A) i> (M / A) C is satisfied (step S45). If the condition is satisfied, the functional expression (M / A) i = f (Vsi) is obtained from the potential output Vsi. ) To determine the toner adhesion amount (M / A) i (step S46).
[0164]
In the above example, it is determined whether or not to use the value from the magnitude relationship of the detection output of the
[0165]
In this case, | ΔVp / Δ (M / A) | ≧ | ΔVp / Δ (M / A) | 0 Toner adhering amount area satisfying the following condition corresponds to (M / A) ≦ (M / A) C, and | ΔVp / Δ (M / A) |> | ΔVp / Δ (M / A) | 0 Corresponds to (M / A) i ≦ (M / A) C.
[0166]
The detection result ◯ c of the graph f) is obtained from the development characteristic i and the image signal thus obtained. A detection characteristic ◯ c of the fourth quadrant was obtained for the gradation conversion table of ◯ a of the first quadrant. Using this result, it is possible to obtain a corrected gradation conversion table ○ b for obtaining the ideal characteristic ○ d.
[0167]
The gradation conversion table obtained as described above is used as a printer gradation conversion table.
[0168]
The above-described method for creating the printer gradation conversion table is shown in a flowchart in FIG.
First, a reference pattern is created on the photoconductor 102 (step S51). Next, the formed reference pattern is detected by the

(5) Development characteristics correction processing
Next, with reference to FIG. 30, a description will be given of a correction process in the case where the development characteristics change due to changes over time after a predetermined time from the initial setting. In the figure, graphs a) to f) are the same as the corresponding graphs in FIG.
[0170]
In FIG. 30, the relationship between the image input signal and the laser output at the time of setting is ○ a (a symbol with a letter a in ○, hereinafter referred to as ○ a), and an optical sensor for the laser output at that time The detection data of 136 is indicated by ○ b, the relationship between the surface potential of the
[0171]
In the figure, if the detection output of the optical sensor after a predetermined time becomes ○ b ′, this indicates that the development characteristic has changed from ○ c to ○ c ′, and as a result, the photoconductor for the image input image signal. The relationship with the toner adhesion amount on 102 indicates that it is ○ d ′. Therefore, the gradation has changed between the initial stage and a predetermined time.
[0172]
It is not desirable from the viewpoint of image reproduction that the gradation changes after the initial time and a predetermined time. Therefore, this is corrected as follows.
[0173]
The relationship between the image input signal n of the first quadrant and the laser output P is assumed to be a linear relationship as indicated by ○ a at the time of initial setting. That is, the laser light quantity at the time of the image signal FF (h) is Pmax,
P = Pmax / FF (h) × n
It is.
[0174]
When the relationship between the image input signal and the laser output is ○ a, the laser output with respect to the image input signal i is Pi, and the toner adhesion amount on the
[0175]
On the other hand, with respect to the image input signal j, the laser output is Pj, and the toner adhesion amount on the photoreceptor with respect to this laser output is (M / A) j after a predetermined time from the initial (M / A) j (0). It has changed to (t).
[0176]
Among the above cases, particularly when (M / A) i (0) = (M / A) j (t), the relationship between the image input signal i and the laser output after a predetermined time is changed from i → Pi. By changing from i → Pj, the image density with respect to the image input signal apparently does not change after the predetermined time from the initial time.
[0177]
In this way, the characteristic ○ a ′ can be obtained by performing the same processing using np pieces of detection data. At this time, the value between the actual measurement points can be given by performing linear interpolation or interpolation using a spline curve or the like. Alternatively, the above calculation is performed for np data points detected or some of the detected data points without calculating all the points, and the lookup table stored in the
[0178]
Thereby, it is possible to correct so that the gradation which has changed with time after the initial setting and after a predetermined time does not change apparently.
[0179]
The outline of the correction process of the development characteristic is as shown in the flowchart of FIG. First, development characteristic detection (same as the development characteristic prediction process shown in FIG. 27) is executed (step S61), and the detection output is stored as (M / A) i (t) (step S62). In this manner, the development characteristics are corrected (step S63).
[0180]
In the characteristic ○ a ′ after a predetermined time obtained by the above processing, the laser output corresponding to the image input signal FF (h) is Pmax (t), and the laser output of the image input signal FF (h) at the initial setting is Assuming that Pmax (0), as a correction method when Pmax (0) ≠ Pmax (t), the resolution between the laser output P00 and Pmax (0) in the image signal 00 (h) is maintained. Thus, there are two correction methods in the case of using up to an image input signal k satisfying Pmax (t) = Pk (0) and in the case of providing a resolution of 8 to 10 bits between Pmax (t). In the present invention, either of the above two methods may be used. However, in the former case, the maximum value of the laser light amount is not changed, so that the control of the image forming condition is simplified. There is a disadvantage that it decreases.
[0181]
In addition to the correction method described above, the development bias, which is one of the image forming conditions, is changed from ○ e → ○ e ′ in FIG. The surface potential at MIN) can be changed from ○ f ′ to ○ f ″. As a result, the relationship between the surface potential on the photoconductor and the toner adhesion amount on the photoconductor changes from ○ c ′ to ○ c ″. However, here, ○ e ′ was selected so as to coincide with the initial development start potential ○ e.
[0182]
In this case, the correction amount (difference between ○ a and ○ a ′ and difference between ○ a and ○ a ″) between the image input signal and the laser output is ○ a → ○ a ′ (see FIG. 26). Therefore, the number of ○ a → ○ a ″ (see FIG. 30) can be small. In the case of a method for selecting a correction table, since the correction width can be reduced by using this method, there is an advantage that the storage capacity of the correction table can be reduced.
[0183]
In addition to the developing bias, the same effect can be obtained by controlling the charging potential of the photosensitive member. In this case, a schematic flowchart of the development characteristic correction processing is shown in FIG. First, development characteristic detection (same as the development characteristic prediction process shown in FIG. 27) is executed (step S71), and the detection output is stored as (M / A) i (t) (step S72). Then, the image forming conditions such as charging of the photosensitive member are changed (step S73), and finally, the development characteristics are corrected as described above (step S74).

(6) Composite tone conversion table composition processing (creation processing)
Referring to the flowchart of FIG. 33, a process for creating a combined gradation conversion table by combining the printer gradation conversion table of the printer unit of the copying
[0185]
First, the printer gradation conversion table created as described above is sent from the printer unit to the printer controller 419 (step S81).
[0186]
Next, the printer gradation conversion table of the printer unit is set to a through gradation conversion table so that the printer unit does not perform correction by the printer gradation conversion table twice (step S82). FIG. 34 shows data of the through gradation conversion table.
[0187]
Subsequently, on the
[0188]
Here, the composition process of the gradation conversion table in step S83 will be specifically described using the format of the programming language C. For the gradation curve A of the reference gradation conversion table serving as a reference, the gradation conversion of the gradation conversion table for printer is B. A gradation curve obtained by performing gradation conversion on the gradation curve A by gradation conversion B is expressed as E = B (A). Further, the tone conversion for changing the degree of curvature for each mode, such as text, photograph, and map, is referred to as mode.
[0189]
[0190]
In the above example, since mode_max = 1, the processing is for one type of image quality mode.
[0191]
Finally, the combined gradation conversion table is set as a combined gradation conversion table (step S84).
[0192]
As described above, according to the first embodiment, the printer gradation conversion table created by the printer unit of the copying

According to the first embodiment, the printer gradation conversion table is corrected by using the detection result of the

[Embodiment 2]
In the image output system of the second embodiment, a plurality of reference gradation conversion tables corresponding to the type of image area are arranged in the
[0196]
Since the basic configuration is the same as that of the image output system of the first embodiment, only different parts will be described here.

Here, the area determination unit 25 determines whether the output image data (image data input from the host computer 418) is “character data”, “photo data”, or “other processing is required. It is determined whether it is “data”. The purpose of the determination in the area determination unit 25 is to switch parameters used in a

Further, the combination of the plurality of reference gradation conversion tables and the printer gradation conversion table transmitted from the digital copying
[0205]
Next, a second composite floor created by combining the printer gradation conversion table set in the image forming printer
[0206]
An example of the combined gradation conversion table (second combined gradation conversion table) is shown in FIG. As shown in the figure,
[0207]
For example, the second composite gradation conversion table of FIG. 36 is processed by a digital filter having a size of 1 × 5.
The following (coefficient 5) is used as a filter.
1 2 4 2 1 × 1/10 (Coefficient 5)
[0208]
If this processing is expressed using the programming language C, it can be expressed as <
[0209]
[0210]
Here, Table In in the function argument of the function filtering (Table Out, Table In) is a correction gradation curve (ie, LUT) before digital filtering, and Table Out is a correction gradation after digital filtering. It is a curve.
[0211]
As a result, the above-described second composite gradation conversion table becomes a gradation correction table with smaller gradation gradation as shown in FIG.
[0212]
In step S82 in FIG. 33, the printer gradation conversion table set in the image forming printer
[0213]
Further, when gradation inversion occurs as a characteristic of the laser emission circuit, a correction table that does not cause gradation inversion may be set as the gradation conversion table for the image forming unit.
[0214]
As described above, according to the second embodiment, in addition to the effects of the first embodiment, the
[0215]
Further, since the second synthesized tone conversion table obtained by synthesizing the printer tone conversion table and the scanner tone conversion table is subjected to the smoothing process, the tone skip of the second synthesized tone conversion table is performed. Generation of pseudo contours can be prevented.
[0216]
Further, the second composite gradation conversion table is set to one of a printer gradation conversion table and a scanner gradation conversion table, and the other is a non-conversion table (a gradation conversion table close to no conversion). Therefore, the generation of pseudo contour can be prevented. That is, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of a pseudo contour due to conversion using two gradation conversion tables.
[0217]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the image output system of the present invention, The image forming apparatus is based on development characteristics. Tone conversion of image data Used for Printer gradation conversion table When the printer gradation conversion table is output to the print control apparatus and the printer gradation conversion table is output, the printer gradation conversion table is set not to be used for gradation conversion. Meanwhile, before The printing control device Input the gradation conversion table for printer from the image forming device, A reference gradation conversion table serving as a reference for gradation conversion of image data; Entered above Printer gradation conversion table From the composite tone conversion table Using the combined tone conversion table Enter Power Was Tone conversion of image data To perform gradation processing on image data that has undergone gradation conversion, The gradation stability and gradation linearity, which are the effects of dithering, can be maintained, the occurrence of pseudo contours can be reduced, and stability over time can be guaranteed.
