吸音プラスチック等の吸音材を用いたものは、吸音効果が吸音材の材質、大きさによる消音効果が定まるとともに、消音特性を向上させるには吸音材の材質を改善し、サイズを大きくしなくてはならず、従来の燃焼器の消音特性を向上させることが困難であるという問題があった。
また、吸音材を用いたものは、騒音の高周波成分に対する吸音特性は優れているが、低周波成分に対する吸音特性が劣るという問題があった。
さらに、共鳴室を設けたものは、吸音特性が優れている周波数の帯域が狭いという問題があった。
