[Industrial application fields]
The present invention relates to a multi-scan display method for a liquid crystal display used as a display output device for OA equipment such as a personal computer and an apparatus therefor.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The conventional liquid crystal display device receives interface signals including display data and timing signals output from the computer body, converts them into drive signals for liquid crystal display, and supplies them to the liquid crystal drive means. The liquid crystal driving means converts the display data in the given driving signal into a liquid crystal driving voltage corresponding to the display data and outputs it to the liquid crystal panel. The liquid crystal panel receives the liquid crystal drive signal and displays an image. Here, when the resolution of the input interface signal and the liquid crystal panel is different, for example, when the resolution of the input interface signal is larger than the resolution of the liquid crystal panel, as described in JP-A-57-115593, By deleting part of the display data included in the interface signal, the resolution of the liquid crystal panel was adjusted. In this conventional example, the display target is limited to characters, and the dots in the blank area around the characters are deleted for each character type. The part to be deleted had to be specified for each character type.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the above conventional technique, there is a problem that characters are targeted and display data other than characters is not considered.
[0004]
An object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal multi-scan display method and apparatus capable of receiving and displaying an interface signal having a resolution different from that of a liquid crystal display device regardless of the type of display data.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present inventionThe pixel width of m pieces of input display data is divided into n equal parts (m> n), and based on the ratio of each pixel before n equal parts included in each pixel after n equal parts and the gradation data, The gradation data of each pixel after n equal division is obtained, and the display data converted into the gradation data of each pixel after n equal division is obtained.Display on the LCD panel.Further, the display data includes a background and characters or figures, and when obtaining gradation data of each pixel after n equal division, when the value of the gradation data of the background pixel is small, the display data is divided into n equal divisions. The fractional part of the gradation data of each pixel is rounded up, and when the gradation data value of the background pixel is large, the fractional part of the gradation data of each pixel after n equal divisions is rounded down.
Further, the present invention converts m pixels of input display data into n pixels (where m> n), and displays the converted display data on a liquid crystal panel. Further, each pixel includes an R dot, a G dot, and a B dot. When m pixels of input display data are converted into n pixels, the first of the m pixels is converted. The B dot gradation data of the pixel adjacent to the first pixel is thinned out, and the B dot gradation data of the pixel adjacent to the first pixel is subtracted from the B dot gradation data of the thinned first pixel and the pixel adjacent to the first pixel. It converts into the gradation data of the new B dot produced | generated from the gradation data of B dot, the G dot of the 2nd pixel of m pixels is thinned, and G of the pixel adjacent to a 2nd pixel The dot gradation data is a new G dot gradation generated from the thinned G dot gradation data of the second pixel and the G dot gradation data of the pixel adjacent to the second pixel. Change to data Then, the R dot of the third pixel among the m pixels is thinned out, and the gradation data of the R dot of the pixel adjacent to the third pixel is converted into the gradation of the R dot of the third pixel thinned out. The data is converted into new R dot gradation data generated from the data and the R dot gradation data of the pixel adjacent to the third pixel.
[0006]
[Action]
The present inventionThe pixel width of m pieces of input display data is divided into n equal parts (m> n), and based on the ratio of each pixel before n equal parts included in each pixel after n equal parts and the gradation data, Gradation data of each pixel after n equal division is obtained, and display data converted into gradation data of each pixel after n equal division is displayed on the liquid crystal panel. Therefore, assuming an output device having a resolution different from that of the liquid crystal panel, even display data output from the personal computer main body or the like can be displayed on the liquid crystal panel.Furthermore, when obtaining the gradation data of each pixel after n equal divisions, if the value of the gradation data of the background pixel is small, the fractional part of the gradation data of each pixel after n equal divisions is rounded up. When the value of the gradation data of the background pixel is large, the fractional data of the gradation data of each pixel after n equal divisions is rounded down so that a color different from the background color is output. This makes it possible to clarify the difference between the background and characters or figures.
In addition, when m pixels of input display data are converted to n pixels, B dots of the first pixel among the m pixels are thinned out, and B of the pixel adjacent to the first pixel is thinned out. The gradation data of the dots is a new B dot gradation generated from the thinned B dot gradation data of the first pixel and the B dot gradation data of the pixel adjacent to the first pixel. The data is converted to data, the G dot of the second pixel of the m pixels is thinned out, and the gradation data of the G dot of the pixel adjacent to the second pixel is thinned out to the G dot of the second pixel thinned out To the new G dot gradation data generated from the gradation data of the second pixel and the G dot gradation data of the pixel adjacent to the second pixel, and the R of the third pixel of the m pixels is converted. Thinning out dots The R dot gradation data of the pixel adjacent to the third pixel is obtained from the thinned R dot gradation data of the third pixel and the R dot gradation data of the pixel adjacent to the third pixel. Since it is converted to the generated new R dot gradation data, the deformation of characters and figures is reduced.

It becomes. X (0,0) to X (0,4) in the equation are gradation data of the first to fifth pixels before reduction, and X (0,0) ′ to X (0,3) ′. Is the gradation data of the first to fourth pixels after reduction. The first number represents the number of lines, and the second number represents the number of pixels. That is, X (0,0) is the gradation data of the first pixel on the first line, and X (0,1) is the gradation data of the second pixel on the first line. In this description, since 1120 pixels are reduced to 1024 pixels, from 1024/1120 = 32/35, 35 pixels are reduced to 32 pixels.
It becomes. Again, X (0,0) to X (0,34) are the first to 35th pixels before reduction, and X (0,0) ′ to X (0,32) ′ are the first after reduction. From pixel to 32nd pixel. The vertical direction is possible as well. However, if the vertical direction is to be processed by the same method, a memory for a plurality of lines is required, and the circuit scale increases. Therefore, it can be realized by performing the following processing so that the circuit scale does not increase.
[0015]
FIG. 4 is a diagram also showing the vertical reduction method.
[0016]
In the vertical direction, since 780 lines are reduced to 768 lines, 12 lines need to be deleted. In FIG. 4, 10 is an extraction line to be deleted, and 11 is a reduced replacement line. Reduction in the vertical direction is performed by replacing the
In this case, the data for the third line, the fourth line, and the two lines as the extraction lines are calculated. With this method, one line memory is sufficient. Details will be described later.

FIG. 5 is a diagram showing the concept of the horizontal enlargement method in the
[0018]
In FIG. 5, 12 is display data for 4 pixels, 13 is display data for 5 pixels after enlargement, the vertical axis represents the maximum display luminance, 1 represents the minimum luminance, and the horizontal axis represents the pixel width. ing. When the
It becomes. Again, the data with “′” represents the processed gradation data. Actually, since 640 pixels are expanded to 1024 pixels, from 1024/640 = 8/5, 5 pixels are expanded to 8 pixels.
It becomes. Similar to the reduction process, when the vertical direction is processed in the same way, a memory for a plurality of lines is required, and the circuit scale increases. Therefore, the following processing can be performed so that the circuit scale does not increase.
[0019]
FIG. 6 also shows the vertical enlargement method.
[0020]
In the vertical direction, since 480 lines are expanded to 768 lines, it is necessary to insert 288 lines. In FIG. 6, 14 and 15 are extraction lines for representing the insertion positions, and 16 is an expanded insertion line. The enlargement in the vertical direction is performed by inserting an
Thus, data for two lines is calculated. By performing the above calculation for each color, display data can be converted.
[0021]
In addition, the above calculation is performed independently for R, G, and B. In this case, a fraction of a decimal point may occur. This fraction processing clearly shows the difference between the background color and the color of characters and figures. Therefore, it is desirable that the background color attribute is converted so that a color different from the background color is output. For example, if the background is black (R = 0000, G = 0000, B = 0000), round up when calculating the average value of each RGB,In the case of white (R = 1111, G = 1111, B = 1111), a color different from the background color can be displayed by discarding. When the background color is blue (R = 0000, G = 0000, B = 1111) and the attributes are different for each RGB color, the round-up process is performed when calculating the gradation of RG, and the round-down process is performed when calculating G. Sort processing.
[0022]
The positions of the extraction lines at the time of vertical reduction and enlargement may be arbitrarily set at equal intervals, or a line with less display data may be determined.
[0023]
FIG. 7 is a diagram showing a method for determining the position of a horizontal / vertical extraction line to be replaced or deleted from the amount of display data, and 17 is the sum of the number of pixels displaying a color different from the background color for each horizontal line. , 18 are the positions of the horizontal lines to be inserted and deleted determined from the integration result 17, and indicate that the position where the display data is as small as possible is determined and set as the replacement and insertion positions.

Next, a method in which the calculation unit is simplified as a second embodiment will be described.
[0048]
As a method of simplifying the arithmetic expression of the first embodiment, there is a method of omitting the divider by dividing the division part by 8 or 16. Therefore, the arithmetic unit can be simplified by reducing the reduction method from 16 pixels to 15 pixels according to
[0049]
For example, 704 pixels out of 1120 pixels can be reduced from 16 pixels to 15 pixels, and 416 pixels can be reduced from 8 pixels to 7 pixels. By combining reduction methods that can omit the divider in this way, reduction processing corresponding to any resolution can be realized.
[0050]
As a third example, a method of performing the reduction process in units of dots will be described with reference to FIG. Here, a dot is a display element for each of R, G, and B that constitutes one pixel of a color liquid crystal panel, and the following description will be made assuming that one pixel is composed of three dots.
[0051]
FIG. 13 is a diagram showing the concept of dot-unit reduction processing. Here, the following description will be made assuming that 12 pixels are reduced to 11 pixels, that is, 36 dots are reduced to 33 dots.

For example, when converting display data represented by 640 pixels × 480 lines into 1120 pixels × 780 lines, first, when the display data is temporarily doubled to 1280 pixels from the beginning, it is inserted into 1120 pixels × 780 lines. Although it takes time because of the large number of lines, the enlargement to 1280 pixels x 960 lines, which is twice the size, can be performed quickly because the processing is simple, and the subsequent number of pixels and lines need not be reduced. Even faster processing is possible.

As described above, algorithms such as data generation from 35 pixels to 32 pixels, data generation from 16 pixels to 15 pixels, data generation from 8 pixels to 7 pixels, data generation from 5 pixels to 8 pixels are used. By expanding and reducing the display data, it is possible to display on panels having different degrees of image.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, display data output assuming a resolution different from the resolution of the liquid crystal display by performing arithmetic processing on the gradation information of a plurality of pixels or dots and enlarging and reducing the display data, There is no disappearance of thin lines or deformation of characters, and it is possible to display without losing the display information of the resolution before enlargement or reduction. Also, the difference between the background and characters or figures can be clarifiedIt becomes like this. That is, a liquid crystal display device capable of multi-scan display can be provided.
[0064]
In addition, considering the current situation in which a large number of software is already in circulation, by adopting this method, it is possible to modify a large number of software without outputting a signal that matches the resolution of the liquid crystal display device from the computer body. Since multi-scanning can be realized, an inexpensive system can be provided. By adopting this method, it is possible to provide an inexpensive system because there is no need to modify software and multi-scanning can be realized.
