Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a recording apparatus such as a copying machine or a printer, and more particularly to an ink jet recording apparatus using electrostatic force.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Inkjet recording methods are generally roughly classified into continuous jet type and on-demand type. Further, the continuous type is called an electrostatic method (Sweet type, Hertz type), and the on-demand type is called a piezoelectric method, a thermal inkjet method, or an electrostatic acceleration type. Recording methods are known.
[0003]
A specific configuration of an on-demand ink jet system using an electrostatic force is disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Nos. 56-170, 56-4467, and 57-151374. These are called electrostatic acceleration type ink jet or slit jet, but are not put into practical use. The basic principle is that the ink is supplied from the ink tank to the slit-shaped ink chamber in which a large number of electrodes are arranged on the inner surface of the slit-shaped ink holding portion, and a high voltage is selectively applied to these electrodes. Recording is performed by ejecting ink in the vicinity of the electrode onto a recording sheet that is in close proximity to the slit.
[0004]
As another method that does not use a slit-shaped recording head, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 61-211048 discloses that a film-like ink support having a plurality of micro holes is filled with ink and selected by a multi-needle electrode. In particular, there is disclosed means for applying a voltage to move ink in a hole to a recording sheet.
[0005]
The ink used in these systems has an electric resistance of about 10 6 to 10 8 ohm · cm. Since water has a low electric resistance, generally, a colorant composed of a dye in an oily solvent is dispersed with a dispersing aid such as a surfactant to adjust the electric resistance.
[0006]
The principle of flying these inks is that, due to the high voltage applied to the arranged electrodes, charges are injected into the ink in contact with the electrodes, and the ink in the vicinity of the electrodes is charged. It is interpreted that. Therefore, the ink is not normally charged, and only when a voltage is applied, the ink in the vicinity of the electrode is charged by energization to obtain an ejection force.
[0007]
For this reason, a highly insulating ink cannot be used because the required voltage increases or the ink cannot be charged. As can be seen from the above description, this ink is a so-called ink in which a dispersion medium and a colorant are uniformly dispersed, and all components in the ink are consumed together.
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The above-described ink jet technology, particularly the on-demand type, has been remarkably popular in recent years because of its small size and low energy consumption. On the other hand, these inkjet methods also have many problems that are commonly technical problems.
[0009]
In these ink jet recording methods, ink as a recording material is ejected using nozzles or orifices. However, since the ink density cannot be controlled in the conventional ink jet system, there is a problem that clogging occurs when the high density ink is left in a state of adhering to the nozzle or the orifice.
[0010]
For this measure, conventional inks use dyes that do not precipitate or aggregate or dyes that do not contain solid components as coloring components, so they are extremely fading to sunlight and cannot be used for long-term recording applications. Is the current situation. In addition, attempts have been made to use extremely minute pigments, but there are still unsolved problems in developing all colors.
[0011]
Also, because liquid ink with high fluidity is used to prevent clogging, image defects due to permeation called bleeding or feathering occur on the paper that is the image receiver, so silica or a water-soluble binder on the recording paper side. Therefore, it is necessary to use image-receiving paper coated with, and paper cannot be freely selected.
[0012]
Furthermore, since the probability of clogging increases as the number of nozzles increases, it is difficult to put to practical use a high-density and wide (a large number of nozzles) recording apparatus. Therefore, the present situation is that the recording density is extremely low and has only been put into practical use.
[0013]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide an ink jet recording apparatus capable of high-quality recording without causing bleeding on various media. It is in.

Is provided.
[0023]
According to the present invention, a so-called two-component recording liquid in which solid-component developer particles charged to a predetermined polarity are dispersed in a high-resistance dielectric liquid is concentrated to a predetermined concentration by a concentration means. The dielectric recording liquid holding means is filled or applied, and a voltage having the same polarity as the developer particles is selectively applied to the recording liquid held by the recording liquid holding means by the voltage applying means, and the electrostatic repulsive force A recording image is formed by ejecting developer particles from a recording liquid toward a recording medium.
[0024]
Unlike the ink in which the dyes and pigments used in conventional ink jet recording are uniformly dispersed, the constituents of the ink are consumed at the same time. It is configured such that (solid particles) are separated from the recording liquid and ejected in an aggregated state. For this reason, the developer particles are mainly consumed, and the dispersion medium in which the developer particles are dispersed is only slightly consumed to the extent that the developer particles are aggregated.
[0025]
Further, according to the present invention, since the developer particles, which are mainly solid components, are separated from the dispersion medium and reach the recording medium, the developer particles are smeared due to liquid properties such as fluidity and permeability. Alternatively, feathering or the like is prevented, and a high-quality recorded image can be achieved. For example, even when recording on a recording paper formed by fibers having voids larger than the developer particles, so-called roughened paper, the developer particles hardly contain the liquid component that causes flow, and hence bleeding occurs. There is no problem, and high image quality can be achieved. Therefore, high-quality images can be recorded without causing bleeding on various recording media other than plain paper.
[0026]
Furthermore, according to the present invention, unlike the liquid developer used in the existing electrophotography, the colorant is hardly restricted as long as it is smaller than the developer particle, so that a more free colorant can be selected. The color storage stability, which was a major drawback of the inkjet method, can be improved.
[0027]
Still further, according to the present invention, since the recording liquid is provided with a concentration means capable of controlling the recording liquid to a predetermined concentration, the recording liquid is concentrated at a high concentration for image formation, and for non-image formation, The recording liquid can be diluted to a low concentration. For this reason, even if the recording liquid holding means is configured by using nozzles or slits as in the conventional ink jet system, there is a risk that the high concentration recording liquid will be left in a state of adhering to the nozzles or slits and clogged. There is no. Therefore, the reliability of the recording apparatus is improved, and a wide recording head can be realized. Further, high-speed recording that cannot be realized by the conventional ink jet method can be realized.
[0028]

The recording liquid L is 0 in a transparent dispersion medium (hereinafter referred to as carrier liquid) composed of a dielectric liquid having a resistivity of at least 10 8 Ω · cm or more, preferably an isoparaffin solvent that is an insulating liquid. 2 to 8 weights of solid resin particles (hereinafter referred to as toner) having a particle system of about 0.01 to 5.0 μm, charged to a predetermined polarity in a carrier liquid, and functioning as a developer having at least a coloring component It is formed by dispersing about a percent.
[0041]
The above-described resistivity is measured as a DC electric resistance when an applied voltage is 100 V when a sample is filled in a cell having a parallel plate electrode distance of 1 mm. Examples of the isoparaffin-based solvent include trade names Isopar G, H, and L. The solvent has an electrical resistivity of 10 12 to 10 13 Ω · cm or more.
[0042]
The recording liquid L is basically the same as the conventional liquid developer used in electrophotography, but the recording liquid L in this embodiment is compared with the conventional liquid developer. Thus, those having a high electrical resistivity are used.

As described above, a higher toner density is maintained in the tank 21 during image formation. Therefore, it is possible to record a larger image dot, and a high-resolution recorded image can be obtained. Further, since the toner density is maintained at a substantially constant level, it is possible to prevent the density of the recorded image from decreasing.
[0072]
On the other hand, during non-image formation, if the toner concentration in the tank 21 is kept at a high level for a long time, the solid component toner particles contained in the recording liquid cause aggregation and precipitation, and the bottom surface and the wall surface in the tank. May be deposited. In addition, the recording belt may aggregate in the through-holes and cause clogging. This is because when the concentration of the recording liquid exceeds a certain level, the toner particles dispersed in the carrier liquid become unstable due to a decrease in the zeta potential of the toner particles. This is thought to be because the state cannot be maintained.
[0073]
For this reason, the

Next, the principle of an image recording method using the
As shown in FIG. 5, the

[0078]
At this time, the toner particles T charged to the same polarity are dispersed in a mist state by the repulsive force of each other and are not discharged. This is because the carrier liquid adheres to such an extent that the toner particles T wet the toner particles T when the toner particles T are ejected from the recording liquid L, and the cohesive force of the carrier liquid overcomes the repulsive force between the toner particles T. The recording liquid L is considered to be ejected in an aggregated state. Therefore, according to the principle of this recording method, not only the toner particles T are discharged from the recording liquid L, but are discharged from the recording liquid L to the extent that the toner particles T are aggregated.
[0079]
The size of the recording dots formed by the toner particles T that have reached the recording paper P depends on the magnitude of the signal voltage applied by the
[0080]
Further, the amount of toner to be ejected depends on the toner concentration of the recording liquid L, and it is possible to record an image dot having a larger dot size as the recording liquid L becomes higher in density. Therefore, the
[0081]
The voltage application time required for discharging the toner particles T is set in advance so that the bias voltage, that is, the toner particles T migrate to the recording paper side between the conductive
[0082]
In this recording method, it is important that a carrier liquid that is transparent and unnecessary for recording is not discharged as much as possible in order to record an image on various recording media including plain paper. As described above, the carrier liquid needs to be discharged together with the toner particles T to such an extent that the toner particles T are aggregated.
[0083]
For this reason, the carrier liquid is required to be a dielectric liquid having a high electrical resistivity. By using the dielectric carrier liquid, the electric field applied to the recording liquid can reach the toner particles T via the carrier liquid.
[0084]
On the other hand, when a carrier liquid having a low electrical resistivity is used, the carrier liquid is charged by charge injection due to the voltage applied by the recording electrode, and therefore electrostatic repulsion is generated when a signal voltage is applied. There is a risk of ejection from the through hole. Further, a carrier liquid having a low electrical resistivity may cause electrical continuity between adjacent recording electrodes, and thus is not suitable for the recording apparatus and the recording method in this embodiment.
[0085]
As described above, the recording method of the present invention and the recording apparatus suitable for this recording method are different from the conventional electrostatic ink jet method in which all the components of the ink including the dispersion medium and the colorant are ejected. In particular, the present invention does not apply a force to a liquid (carrier liquid) to cause the ink to fly toward a recording medium as in the prior art, but applies a force to charged toner particles of solid components dispersed in the carrier liquid. It is characterized in that it makes it fly by acting. As a result, the component flying toward the recording medium is mainly toner particles, and the carrier liquid is only discharged to such an extent that the toner particles are wetted and aggregated. For this reason, since the components that reach the recording medium are mainly toner particles and contain only a small amount of carrier liquid as a fluid component, the image does not cause bleeding or flow on the recording medium. Can be recorded. Therefore, high-quality recorded images can be obtained on various recording media.

By covering the insulating member with a thickness of 1 to 10 μm with this insulating member, it is possible to prevent the carrier liquid from being discharged even at a higher applied voltage. Further, even when the electrical resistivity of the recording liquid is somewhat reduced, the carrier liquid can be prevented from being discharged, and the stabilization of the recording dot size modulation by voltage modulation can be improved.

[0112]
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 11 and 12, since the toner regulating electrode as the concentration unit and the density control unit as the density control unit are provided, the image is formed and supplied to the tank and the nozzle or slit hole. The recording liquid is concentrated, and the clogging can be suppressed because the recording liquid is diluted during non-image formation.
[0113]
As described above, according to the recording apparatus of the present invention, it is possible to solve various problems that the conventional ink jet recording system has.
In other words, the toner particles as solid components contained in the recording liquid are mainly ejected, whereby an image is recorded on the recording medium. Further, the carrier liquid as a liquid component contained in the recording liquid is only discharged together with the toner particles to such an extent that the toner particles are aggregated. Therefore, there is no risk of image defects such as bleeding and feathering on various recording media, and the quality of recorded images can be improved. Further, since there is no restriction on the type of the colorant, a recorded image with good color storage stability with less fading can be obtained.
[0114]
In the recording liquid, the concentration of the toner particles relative to the carrier liquid contained in the recording liquid is controlled by the concentration control unit. That is, during image formation, a relatively large image point can be recorded by concentrating the recording liquid and increasing the concentration of toner particles. Further, since the density is always maintained at a substantially constant level, the density of the recorded image can be maintained at a constant level. On the other hand, during non-image formation, the toner particle concentration in the tank is diluted to a stable state to prevent the toner particles from aggregating and precipitating in the tank and the recording liquid holding means such as a recording belt. By doing so, the reliability of the apparatus can be improved.
[0115]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, it is possible to provide an ink jet recording apparatus capable of high-quality recording without causing bleeding on various media.
