デジタル複写機93側およびホストコンピュータ96側には、例えばISDN(integrated services digital network )対応の汎用のモデム(変調器)98が設けられている。 モデム98での変調方式としては、PM(位相変調)、AM(振幅変調)あるいはFM(周波数変調)等がある。
この場合において、デジタル複写機92は電子RDH(Recycle Document handler)機能を備えたものとする。
【0112】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming system including a plurality of image forming apparatuses such as a digital copying machine and a host computer, and these image forming apparatuses and the image processing apparatuses are connected to each other via a transfer device. is there.
[0002]
[Prior art]
For example, a digital copying machine as an image forming apparatus that is currently commercialized reads a document image by an image reading unit and stores it as image data in an image storage unit when copying a document image. This image data is printed out as it is in the recording unit when performing the same size copying. In addition, when performing image processing such as editing and enlargement, the image processing specified in the image data by the image processing unit. The image data is printed out by the recording unit. That is, in such a digital copying machine, an image is formed on a sheet using only an image processing function provided in the digital copying machine. Once image data is stored in the image storage unit as described above, scanning can be performed once even when multiple copies are made, so copying can be performed faster than conventional analog copying machines. Met.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, when the image data is temporarily stored as in the digital copying machine, if the number of copies is simply large, the number of copies can be easily increased by repeating the image forming process. When copying a plurality of copies, the larger the number of pages to be copied, and the required memory increases depending on the contents of image processing on the image data.
[0004]
When considered as an image forming apparatus, not limited to the digital copying machine as described above, the function basically exhibits the best function when the hardware is purchased. That is, even if the user desires the most advanced copying machine and purchases a digital copying machine having the highest image processing function at the time of purchase, it will be relatively low-functional in a short period of time. .
[0005]
In this case, the purchased digital copying machine cannot be desired to have more functions than the functions of the copying machine. Of course, there may be options for the memory capacity in advance, but the cost of the memory is high, and if you need more memory capacity than is available, the problem of memory shortage will be solved. It will never be done.
[0006]
Therefore, when more advanced functions or new functions are required, it is usually necessary to replace the copying machine. This imposes a large financial burden on the user, and it is always a problem for manufacturers as long as they provide products that match the times.
[0007]
On the other hand, in recent years, networking of a plurality of image recording devices has been proposed. For example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 53-116834 discloses a “copying system” in which a plurality of image reading devices and a plurality of image recording devices are connected via a single control unit. In the above-described copying method, since the original image read by any one of the image reading apparatuses is printed out by any of the image recording apparatuses, the waiting time of the image recording apparatus due to the replacement of the original by the image reading apparatus or the like Can be shortened.
[0008]
Japanese Patent Publication No. 7-36592 discloses an “image processing apparatus” in which a plurality of copiers having an image reading unit and an image recording unit are connected to a single control device. In this image processing apparatus, image signals to be recorded are distributed and supplied to a plurality of copying machines in accordance with the set document copying mode, and copying operations are performed in parallel in these copying machines. Yes.
[0009]
However, the above prior art is intended to print out at the transfer destination copying machine, and all copying machines basically have an image processing function, and only the image forming means is provided. It is the structure which can be used mutually. Accordingly, if there is an image processing function that can be used only by a certain copying machine, the necessary image processing cannot be performed unless the user goes to the place where the copying machine is installed. In addition, even if new functions that are necessary occur in all locations where copiers are located, in order to use the same functions in all copiers, all copiers must be replaced. Impossible. In particular, when image data of a capacity that cannot be handled as a result of image processing occurs, there is a problem that it is not possible to cope with only the copying machine.
[0010]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described conventional problems, and an object of the present invention is to perform image processing desired by the user between the own apparatus and another image processing apparatus using a network between the apparatuses. It is an object of the present invention to provide an image forming system capable of efficiently operating each image forming apparatus and image processing apparatus and obtaining a desired visible image in a short time by complementing functions that are not present.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
Book In order to solve the above problems, an image forming system according to the invention includes an image input unit that captures an image and converts it into image data, a storage unit that stores the captured image data, and a visible image based on the image data. An image forming apparatus having an image output unit for forming a plurality of image forming apparatuses, an image editing apparatus having a plurality of image editing functions, and a transfer apparatus connected between the two to transfer information between them by mutual communication The image forming apparatus transfers image data to be processed to the image editing apparatus, and the image editing apparatus executes an image editing process in response to a predetermined processing request, In the image forming system for returning the image data to the requesting image forming apparatus and outputting the processed image data in the image forming apparatus, The image forming apparatus includes a display unit that displays an image editing function that can be processed on the image forming apparatus side and an image editing function that can be processed on the image editing apparatus side, and is displayed on the display unit. The image editing function that can be processed on the image editing apparatus side can be selectively registered on the image forming apparatus side when the image editing apparatus is equipped with a new image editing function. The image forming apparatus transfers image data to be subjected to image editing processing to the image editing apparatus when a function that cannot be processed on the image forming apparatus side is selected. It is characterized by that.
[0012]
In the image forming system, when an unprocessable function is selected on the image forming apparatus side and image data to be subjected to image editing processing is transferred to the image editing apparatus, The image editing apparatus determines whether the image data processed by the requesting image forming apparatus can be output as an image, and notifies the requesting image forming apparatus of the determination result. It is said.
[0013]
Also, the above The image forming system determines whether the image data can be output when determining whether the processed image data can be output as an image in the request source image forming apparatus. In this case, the processed image data is transferred.
[0014]
Also, above In the image forming system, the criteria for the determination are the recording density of the image in the image forming apparatus, the maximum paper size that can be used by the image forming apparatus, and the paper set in a state where paper can be fed to the image forming apparatus. It is characterized by the size and whether or not the image forming apparatus itself is in a recordable state.
[0015]
Also, above The image forming system is capable of mutual communication with the image editing when it is determined that the image data that has been processed by the requesting image forming apparatus can be output as an image, when the image data cannot be output. Further, the image data is urged to be transferred to another image forming apparatus that can output the processed image data.
[0016]
Also, the above The image forming system is capable of mutual communication with the image editing when it is determined that the image data that has been processed by the requesting image forming apparatus can be output as an image, when the image data cannot be output. Another image forming apparatus capable of outputting the processed image data is extracted.

In this case, an unspecified number of people can arbitrarily access the network, and there is a possibility that data flowing on the network may be stolen by a hacker or the like. Next, based on FIGS. 1 to 22, an operation in the case of performing copying using an external memory in the image forming system will be described. The operation of the present image forming system will be described here with reference to a communication operation between the digital copying
[0112]
Electronic RDH is, for example, if there are 10 pages of document, all the image data is temporarily stored in memory, the image data of each page is sequentially called from the memory, and one copy is made as many times as the required number of copies. It is to copy repeatedly. The electronic RDH can be selected by operating the post-processing setting key 101c shown in FIG. In this case, the operation of the post-processing setting key 101c shifts to the post-processing setting screen shown in FIG. 7B, and the electronic RDH key is displayed.
[0113]
The digital copying
[0114]
However, for example, when copying a plurality of original images of 10 pages by the electronic RDH, a page memory for 10 pages is required. Therefore, for 6 pages, that is, simply calculated, a 96 Mbyte page memory. Will be lacking. Therefore, in this case, when the capacity of the page memory is full, the external memory selected by the user condition setting (here, the large capacity memory of the host computer 96) is used and simultaneously transferred to the external memory. The image data to be selected is selected and electronic RDH is executed.
[0115]
Hereinafter, the operation in this case will be described based on the flowchart of FIG.
[0116]
When the electronic RDH is selected in the digital copying
[0117]
Further, the image data processing unit 71 sequentially performs processing such as density conversion and scaling based on the setting on the image data (S74). When the electronic RDH (Recycle Document handler) setting key is operated, the liquid

Next, when the user presses the continuation key 121c in accordance with the message shown in FIG. 7B (S79), the image data to be transferred from the read image data and the transfer destination used as the external memory are displayed. Is determined, the image data is transferred to the transfer destination (S80). The screen of the liquid
[0120]
The operations of S73 to S80 are repeated until there is no document waiting to be read as described above (S81). Thereafter, when reading of all the originals is completed, when the external memory is used (S82), the image data is transferred from the transfer destination side to the digital copying
[0121]
Similarly to the case of writing, reading of image data from each memory is performed via a data line in the digital copying
[0122]
On the other hand, if the free capacity of the
[0123]
Here, the operation for determining the transfer target data and the transfer destination in S80 will be described with reference to FIGS.
[0124]
In the digital copying
[0125]
Normally, in the processing in S80, a page with a small amount of page data is preferentially transferred to an external memory so that a free memory can be secured immediately and the next image can be input. The page data amount referred to here is determined based on the data amount in the data format of the image data. That is, when the image data is transferred as bitmap data, a comparison is made with the data amount necessary for the bitmap, and when the image data is transferred as text data, the comparison is made with the code data amount.
[0126]
Of course, when transferring as compressed data, the comparison is based on the data amount in the compressed state. This is because the transfer takes the shortest time if the transfer is performed from the page with the smallest data amount. For example, the
[0127]
However, there are cases where it is desired to give priority to the first copy over the efficiency, and the above selection procedure has a drawback. That is, when the amount of data on the first page is the smallest among the four pages already read, the transfer data to the external memory before reading the fifth page becomes the first page. As a result, when the first page is output, the total transfer time for data transmission / reception is excessive, and the first copy becomes very slow. Therefore, when the main body memory of the digital copying
[0128]
Next, after image data to be transferred to the outside is determined, it is necessary to set a transfer destination. In the above configuration, the memory of the
[0129]
In this case, since it is assumed that the memory capacity of the transfer destination is equal to or larger than the capacity of the transfer target data, a device having a memory larger than the transfer target data amount is selected.
[0130]
For example, the following five conditions can be considered as necessary selection conditions thereafter.
[0131]
(1) Whether the device can receive data and is in a standby state.
[0132]
(2) Is the memory control / data control of the device effective?
[0133]
(3) What is the relative frequency of use of the device?
[0134]
(4) Whether the free space of the memory of the apparatus is sufficient for the subsequent image data transfer (whether it has the maximum free space of the memory).
[0135]
(5) Is the occurrence rate of data corruption associated with image data transfer in the past small (reliability)?
[0136]
The status and performance information of the various apparatuses described above are stored as a management table on the memory of the requesting apparatus (here, the digital copying machine 92) using a communication line such as a telephone periodically.
[0137]
Even so, the operation desired by the user may not be executed depending on the order of adaptation of the transfer destination selection conditions.
[0138]
For example, a user who places importance on reliability wants to avoid error stoppage due to data corruption or communication trouble as much as possible. In addition, since another user wants to perform efficient processing anyway, there is a demand for selecting an apparatus so that an efficient flow can be realized.
[0139]
In this case, the priority order of the selection conditions can be selected by the user so that the user can flexibly cope with this. For example, a setting screen as shown in FIG. 24B is displayed and selected from “reliability priority mode” and “speed priority mode”. In `` Reliability priority mode '' (5) (1) (3) (4) (2), the selection conditions are changed in the order, and in `` Speed priority mode '' (1) (2) (3) (4 If the selection conditions are changed in the order of) and (5), the selection can be made according to the conditions desired by the user.
[0140]
The above operation will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG.
[0141]
When the use of the external memory is selected in S79 described above, first, the screen shown in FIG. 24A appears on the liquid crystal display device 1 (S801). If the transfer mode to the external memory is selected here, a transition is made to the screen shown in FIG. 24B (S802). Here, when the external memory selection condition is set, the process proceeds to S803, and the process branches according to the transfer mode selected in S801. If “first page priority mode” is selected in S801, the process proceeds to S804, and image data input thereafter is selected as transfer target data. On the contrary, if “first page priority mode” is not selected in S801, that is, if “optimum transfer mode” is selected, the process proceeds to S805, and the image data with the highest transfer efficiency is set as the transfer target data. Selected. When the transfer target data is determined, a transfer destination is selected based on the external memory selection condition set in S802 (S806), and the image data (page unit) is transferred to the apparatus set as the transfer destination (S806). S807).
[0142]
In the above description, the entire page memory of the digital copying
[0143]
Further, in the present image forming system, image data is transmitted and received between the office side and the service center side having the configuration shown in FIG. 11, for example, and image data requested from a user side device in a predetermined office is received at the service center. After the image processing is performed, when the processed image data is transferred to the requesting office, the transfer destination user device is selected. This is due to the following reason. The user side device is assumed to be a digital copying machine in the following. This digital copying machine corresponds to the digital copying

Book As described above, the image forming system according to the invention includes an image input unit that captures an image and converts the image data into image data, a storage unit that stores the captured image data, and an image that forms a visible image based on the image data. An image forming apparatus provided with an output unit, an image editing apparatus provided with a plurality of image editing functions, and a transfer device connected between the two and causing mutual communication to transfer information between the two, The image forming apparatus transfers image data to be processed for image editing to the image editing apparatus, and the image editing apparatus executes image editing processing in response to a predetermined processing request, and processes the processed image data. In the image forming system that returns to the requesting image forming apparatus and outputs the processed image data in the image forming apparatus, The image forming apparatus includes a display unit that displays an image editing function that can be processed on the image forming apparatus side and an image editing function that can be processed on the image editing apparatus side, and is displayed on the display unit. It is a configuration.
[0175]
In the image forming system, when an unprocessable function is selected on the image forming apparatus side and image data to be subjected to image editing processing is transferred to the image editing apparatus, The image editing apparatus determines whether the image data processed by the requesting image forming apparatus can be output as an image, and notifies the requesting image forming apparatus of the determination result. .
[0176]
Also, above The image forming system determines whether the image data can be output when determining whether the processed image data can be output as an image in the request source image forming apparatus. For this, the processed image data is transferred.
[0177]
Also, above In the image forming system, the criteria for the determination are the recording density of the image in the image forming apparatus, the maximum paper size that can be used by the image forming apparatus, and the paper set in a state where paper can be fed to the image forming apparatus. The size is a configuration that determines whether or not the image forming apparatus itself is in a recordable state.
