従来の上記の用途に用いられる鉛蓄電池の電槽蓋として、スタッドボルト型端子を鋳込んだものが多く採用されている。該スタッドボルト型端子は、電槽内の極板群から上方に延びる極柱を嵌合する鉛ブッシングと該鉛ブッシングの周側面から一体に水平に延びる周面に複数条の鍔が突出した断面円形又は四角形の棒状の鉛結合部と該鉛結合部に頭部を鋳込まれて上方に突出するボルト型端子とから成る。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
しかし乍ら、該スタッドボルト型端子の鉛結合部が断面形状が円形の場合は、高さ寸法が大きくなるため、これを鋳込んだ電槽蓋の厚さが厚くなり、従って、この電槽蓋を施された電池の高さが高くなる。また、断面形状が四角形の場合は、丸形に比し鍔での硫酸電解液の滲み上がり防止効果が低くなる。その断面積を円形のものと同一にすると強度が低下する。強度を上げるべく断面積を大きくすると、丸形の場合よりも蓄電池重量が重くなる。
従って、このような従来の不都合を解消し、従来のスタッドボルト型端子に比し、電解液の滲み上がり防止効果が向上し、蓄電池の重量及び高さ寸法を低下することができるスタッドボルト型端子の開発が望まれる。

【発明の実施の形態】
本発明の実施の1例の鉛蓄電池の電槽蓋を添付図面に基づいて説明する。

本発明によれば、上記のスタッドボルト型端子1の該鉛結合部4の断面形状を図に明示のように楕円に形成し、且つその長径Lの方向を水平方向に位置せしめ、短径Hを高さ方向にして鋳込んだものである。従って、その周面に突設した複数個の鍔4aも楕円形状となるので、硫酸電解液の滲み上がり防止効果は、従来の断面円形又は方形の結合部のそれより向上する。また、その断面形状は楕円であるので、同一の断面積を有する円形の結合部の厚さを薄くでき、従って、これを鋳込んだ電槽蓋の厚さもそれだけ肉薄、軽量にでき、また、本発明の上記電槽蓋を電池入り電槽に施し、蓄電池に構成したとき、蓄電池の高さを低くでき、電池の重量も軽量できる。
尚、図示の例では、その楕円形の結合部4の断面積は、120.1cm2 、長形Lは18mm、短径Hは8.5mmとした。
