める複数の地域と、地域間の境界を定める縁部とを備え
ており、さらに、上記地域の各々について、それぞれの
地域を区別する特徴を受け取る特徴受け取り手段を有
し、上記変換手段は、上記概念表示を、特定場所を含む
地域の特徴に基づいた少なくとも1つの情景に変換する
するものである。

々は、CPU10に接続される端末40、50を備えて
いる。各ユーザ端末は、処理の一部を実行する個別コン
ピュータを含むことができる。最低限でも、各端末はキ
ーボード42、52等の入力装置と、システムと対話す
るためのディスプレイ41、51等の出力装置を備えて
いる。もちろん、他の形式の入力装置及び出力装置を用
いることもできる。個別入力ポート30をCPUに接続
して、システムで使用するデータを入力することができ
る。
境内に情景を展開する際に使用される特定要素を含むこ
とができる。メモリ20は、RAM、ROM、CD−R
OM及びそれらの組み合わせ等の様々な種類の1つまた
は複数にすることができるが、CPUを作動させる命令
と、環境及びその環境から情景を生成するデータの両方
を記憶できる十分な大きさでなければならない。もちろ
ん、図1に示されているような単一メモリではなく、複
数の異なったメモリを使用してデータを記憶することも
できる。

ない。ノード131、132が、様々な中心地、例えば
環境内の特定の建物または他の場所等を表している。ラ
ンドマーク141、142も、環境内の特定要素、例え
ば山や目立つ建物を表している。通路151、152
が、環境内の地域を通過するように示されている。最後
になるが、参加者の一人の環境を通る進行を表す歩道1
60が環境内に定められている。歩道は、都市計画構成
要素の1つではない。むしろ、それは仮想現実環境内の
情景を生成するために使用される。

ブジェクトの斜視図にすることができる。これらのオブ
ジェクトには、地面230と、空220と、建物23
1、232の前面と、特定の独立したオブジェクト、例
えば木241またはパーキングメータ242を含むこと
ができる。もちろん、さらに高等な表示システムでは、
情景を歩道に沿って配置された特定オブジェクトの現実
的三次元像として発展させることができる。
ドマークに加えて、各地域を表す特定の特徴を選択する
ことによって、環境の多様性が得られる。地域の特徴
は、歩道に沿って存在する構造物の形式を定めることが
できる。例えば、ある地域に一定形式の建物(木材の下
見板張りの3層)、一定形式の通路(アスファルト舗装
道路にレンガ敷き歩道を付けたもの)、及び道筋に沿っ
た特定のオブジェクト(木、消火栓、パーキングメー
タ)を設けることができる。

地域の一定の特徴を事前に定めて、補助データベースに
記憶する。地域特徴は、ステップ330で識別される。

を識別する。最後に、ステップ350で、システムは、
歩道に沿って出合う情景を生成する。情景は、環境内で
その各々が位置している地域の特徴に基づいて生成され
る。

む必要はない。むしろ、ユーザはいずれのステップから
も他のステップへ進んで、環境を変化させたり、環境を
通る歩道を改めることができる。

環境内の場所に識別することができる。環境の概念図を
作成するのに加えて、システムは、環境を通る指定歩道
に沿った参加者の移動を表す1組の情景を生成する。情
景は、オブジェクトの合成像として斜視図で生成され
る。情景内に合成図を形成するオブジェクトは、その情
景が当てはまる地域の特徴に基づいて決定される。

を表示するようにしたので、多くの作成者及び参加者に
よって仮想現実場所等のグラフィック環境を作成するす
ることができる。

- 【請求項1】 環境を生成するコンピュータシステムで
あって、 環境内の要素及びそれらの場所を表すデータを受け取る
入力手段と、 環境の概念表示を生成する概念生成手段と、 上記概念表示を特定場所での環境内で視野に現れる地面
高さの景色を表す少なくとも1つの情景に変換する変換
手段と、 上記概念表示の少なくとも1つと上記少なくとも1つの
情景を表示するディスプレイとを有し、 上記データは、上記環境内に領域を定める複数の地域
と、地域間の境界を定める縁部とを備えており、さら
に、上記地域の各々について、それぞれの地域を区別す
る特徴を受け取る特徴受け取り手段を有し、 上記変換手段は、上記概念表示を、特定場所を含む地域
の特徴に基づいた少なくとも1つの情景に変換する グラ
フィック環境設計システム。 - 【請求項2】 上記入力手段は、複数のユーザ入力手段
を備えており、ユーザ入力手段の各々は、複数のユーザ
の一人からデータを受け取ることを特徴とする請求項1
記載のグラフィック環境設計システム。 - 【請求項3】 上記特徴は、各地域内に存在するオブジ
ェクトの形式を含み、上記少なくとも1つの情景は、特
定場所を含む地域に対応した形式のオブジェクトを含む
ことを特徴とする請求項1記載のグラフィック環境設計
システム。 - 【請求項4】 上記データは、上記環境内のノード場所
にオブジェクトを定める複数のノードを含み、上記特定
場所が上記少なくとも1つのノードに対応したノード場
所付近である時、上記少なくとも1つの情景が少なくと
も1つのノードの表示を含むことを特徴とする請求項1
記載のグラフィック環境設計システム。 - 【請求項5】 上記変換手段は、 特定場所にオブジェ
クトを識別する手段と、識別されたオブジェクトの表示
