素子を用いて効率よく量産的に電子機器を製造するため
に、以前から、LSIなどの半導体素子チップを、其の
接続用リードパターンなどを形成させてある映画フィル
ム状のフレキシブルテープ(フレキシブル基板)上に予
め搭載して用いること(TAB方式)が行なわれて来
た。この方式ではフレキシブル基板に搭載する半導体素
子はパッケージの無い所謂チップであって、1個ずつパ
ッケージに封入した場合に比べて小型化には非常に有利
である。フレキシブル基板上で、半導体素子チップ側の
端子間距離は非常に短いが、フレキシブル基板上の接続
用リードパターンによって、他の回路と接続する箇所で
は通常のパッケージに封入した半導体素子の端子の場合
と同程度に広くなっている。液晶表示装置の駆動回路
に、小型化のために上記のようなフレキシブル基板上に
装着した半導体素子を利用することは、勿論従来から行
なわれていたが、ただフレキシブル基板方式を利用する
だけでは、上記液晶表示装置の小型化のためには不十分

を広くすることが可能となり、スルーホール9が貫通す
るクリアランス10を設けることも容易になり有効であ
