用途に使用される包装材料はガラス又はAl箔を主構成と
する多層フィルムである。しかしAl箔は不透明であり、
加熱処理後の内容物の変化を検査することができなかっ
た。又柔軟性があり、耐熱性や透明性に優れた材料とし
て軟質塩化ビニルが従来輸液バッグに使用されている
が、あくまで常温使用であり、オートクレーブ加熱殺菌
処理を施した場合、可塑剤その他の添加物溶出及び耐白
化性に問題があり、使用に耐える材料は得られていな
い。さらに、ポリプロピレン系材料も種々検討されてい
るが、柔軟性、耐熱性、耐白化性の点で充分満足できる
ものはなかった。医療機関では患者への点滴の際直前に
アミノ酸やビタミン剤などを添加調合するが勤務体制の
合理化等により調合済み点滴剤をメーカー側に要望する
声も強くなっている。その場合は輸液バッグにはガスバ
リア性が必要となる。
