2. Description of the Related Art Generally, as a method for storing seeds, there is known a method of storing the seeds at a low temperature, storing them in a dry state, or storing them in combination. Gel-coated seeds are small seeds or seeds that were previously unsuitable for mechanical sowing.
Or non-spherical seeds, etc., which is effective in facilitating seed sowing and facilitating germination by making it possible to mechanically sow seeds.
However, in these techniques, it was necessary to continuously perform the process from coating to seeding. For storage, a method in which the seeds are kept at a low temperature of about several degrees Celsius is conceivable. However, even with this method, the seed germination process cannot be completely suppressed, and it has been difficult to store the seeds for more than one month for a long time. On the other hand, a method of drying the gel-coated seeds is also conceivable, but it has been difficult to absorb the gel-coated seeds once dried and return to the original state.

In order to achieve the above object, a method for preserving and restoring gel-coated seeds according to the present invention comprises, as described in claim 1, sodium alginate, sodium polyacrylate and sodium carboxymethylcellulose. , An aqueous alkaline salt solution of one or more aqueous gels selected from sodium starch phosphate and sodium caseinate, and a starch-acrylic acid graft copolymer,
Gel-coated seed having an insolubilized coating gel layer comprising at least one water-absorbing polymer selected from polyacrylate, isobutylene-maleic acid copolymer, and saponified vinyl acetate acrylate copolymer Dry
It is characterized by storing after drying and absorbing water before sowing . The gel-coated seed used in the present invention is obtained by coating a plant seed such as spinach, radish, or onion with a coating agent obtained by adding a water-absorbing polymer to an aqueous solution of an alkaline salt of an aqueous gel. Drying by ventilation drying enables easy long-term storage and easy absorption by soaking before seeding.
State can be returned .

The dried gel-coated seeds are stored in a low-temperature dry state. Upon sowing, the dried gel-coated seed is immersed in water for several minutes to several hours. As a result, the gel-coated seed rapidly absorbs water and returns to its original size and shape, and thereafter can be handled in the same manner as a normal gel-coated seed.

EXAMPLE A starch-acrylic acid graft copolymer was added as a water-absorbing polymer to a 2% aqueous sodium alginate solution, and the added amount of the water-absorbing polymer to sodium alginate was 2.5, 5, 10 and 15%, respectively. Using an aqueous solution as a coating agent, Chinese cabbage seeds were coated with a gel coating device (JP-A-63-313504). The amount of the seed was set to about 800 per 1000 ml of the coating agent.

The processed gel-coated seeds were air-dried at 20 ° C. for 12 hours. After 12 hours, the water content was almost 0%. The dried gel-coated seeds were kept in a sealed container (desiccator) at a relative humidity of 30%. After 30 days, the gel-coated seeds in the desiccator were taken out, immersed in distilled water, and taken out after about 3 hours. The size and shape of the removed gel-coated seed were almost the same as before drying.
Germination tests of the gel-coated seeds showed almost the same germination rate (85 to 90%) as before drying.
