Description

The present invention relates to a door garnish for a vehicle door.

2. Description of the Related Art There is provided a door garnish that is provided at the bottom of a vehicle door in order to protect the bottom of the vehicle door from flying stones, mud, and the like while the vehicle is traveling.

In the above-mentioned conventional technology, if an occupant accidentally catches their toes on the interior covering member from above when getting in or out of the vehicle, or if an occupant inside the vehicle intentionally presses the interior covering member outward in the vehicle width direction with their toes in order to hold the vehicle door in the open position, there is a concern that a load will be applied to the interior covering member from the toes.
In this way, if the load from the toes is applied to the thin-walled hinge portion through the interior covering member, there is a concern that the thin-walled hinge portion may deteriorate or break, or that the load applied from the toes may cause the exterior covering member or the interior covering member to fall off from the vehicle door.
The present invention has been made in consideration of the above circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a door garnish that is advantageous in preventing falling off from a vehicle door while improving durability.

In order to achieve the above-mentioned object, one embodiment of the present invention is a door garnish comprising an outer member covering the outer surface of the lower part of a vehicle door comprising a door outer panel and a door inner panel, and an inner member covering the inner surface of the lower part of the vehicle door, the outer member having a lower wall portion attached to the door outer panel and extending below the lower flange of the vehicle door and inward in the vehicle width direction from the lower flange to cover the lower part of the door, and an opening formed in the vicinity of the inner end portion on the inner side in the vehicle width direction of the lower wall portion from above, the inner member being attached to the door inner panel and inserted from above into the opening with a gap provided between the inner member and the peripheral portion of the opening, and having a first restricting portion that restricts the displacement of the lower wall portion downward and outward in the vehicle width direction.

According to one embodiment of the present invention, a door garnish is provided with an outer member and an inner member, and a first restricting portion is provided on the inner member which is inserted from above into an opening in a lower wall portion of the outer member with a gap provided between the opening and the peripheral edge of the opening, and which restricts displacement of the lower wall portion downward and outward in the vehicle width direction.
Therefore, when a load from the occupant's feet is applied to the outer member, the first regulating portion regulates the downward and outward displacement of the lower wall portion of the outer member in the vehicle width direction, thereby reducing the load applied to the outer member, which is advantageous in preventing the door garnish from falling off from the vehicle door while improving its durability.

The lower portion of the inner body wall portion 40 is formed as an inclined portion 46, which extends downward and inward in the vehicle width direction toward the inner end portion 38 of the lower wall portion 32 of the outer member 24.
As shown in Figure 2, at the point displaced in the fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle from the opening 34, the lower end of the inclined portion 46 faces the sealing member 20 near the sealing member 20 with a gap in the vehicle width direction, and also faces the inclined surface 36 with a gap in the up-down direction.

A second restricting portion 48 is provided at the vertical middle portion of the vehicle width direction outer surface of the inner body wall portion 40 so as to protrude from the inner body wall portion 40 toward the outside in the vehicle width direction.
The second regulating portion 48 is arranged opposite the lower flange 16 of the vehicle door 10 and abuts against the lower flange 16 to regulate the displacement of the inner main body wall portion 40, i.e., the inner member 26, outward in the vehicle width direction, and is provided at intervals in the longitudinal direction of the inner member 26 (front-to-rear direction of the vehicle).
The second restricting portion 48 has a contact surface 50 that comes into contact with the lower flange 16, and the contact surface 50 is provided with a buffer member 52 made of an elastic material such as rubber or elastomer.
The buffer member 52 is provided in contact with the lower flange 16 between the abutment surface 50 and the lower flange 16, and the abutment surface 50 of the second regulating portion 48 abuts against the lower flange via the buffer member 52.
In this embodiment, the buffer member 52 is provided so as to come into contact with the lower flange 16, but the buffer member 52 and the lower flange 16 may be provided with a gap therebetween.
The second restricting portion 48 includes an upper plate portion that protrudes substantially horizontally from the vehicle width direction outer surface of the inner body wall portion 40 and extends in the longitudinal direction of the inner member 26, a bent plate portion that is bent downward from the tip of the upper plate portion to form a contact surface 50, and a pair of end plate portions that protrude from the vehicle width direction outer surface of the inner body wall portion 40 and connect both ends of the upper plate portion and the bent plate portion in the vehicle front-rear direction. In other words, the second restricting portion 48 is formed with an open downward shape, has a box shape, and ensures rigidity.

The first restricting portions 44 are provided at the lower end of the inclined portion 46 facing the multiple openings 34 , and a plurality of first restricting portions 44 are provided corresponding to the openings 34 .
The first regulating portion 44 is inserted from above into the opening 34 with a gap provided between it and the peripheral edge of the opening 34, and regulates the downward displacement, outward displacement (deformation) in the vehicle width direction, and upward displacement of the lower wall portion 32 of the outer member 24.
The first regulating portion 44 includes an upper regulating portion 44A extending from the lower end of the inclined portion 46, an insertion portion 44B extending from the lower end of the upper regulating portion 44A, and a lower regulating portion 44C extending from the lower end of the insertion portion 44B.

The insertion portion 44B is the portion that is inserted into the opening 34, and as shown in FIG. 1, the insertion portion 44B extends substantially in the vertical direction within the opening 34, with a gap being secured between the outer peripheral edge of the opening 34 in the vehicle width direction and the inner peripheral edge of the opening 34 in the vehicle width direction, and also, although not shown, with a gap being secured between the front peripheral edge of the opening 34 in the vehicle fore-and-aft direction and the rear peripheral edge of the opening 34 in the vehicle fore-and-aft direction.
Therefore, in locations where openings 34 are not provided as described above, as shown in Figure 2, the lower end of inclined portion 46 faces inclined surface 36 with a vertical gap maintained, thereby allowing insertion portion 44B to be smoothly displaced in the vehicle width direction within opening 34.
The upper regulating portion 44A extends downward and outward in the vehicle width direction from the lower end of the inclined portion 46 and is connected to the upper end of the insertion portion 44B located above the opening 34; in other words, it extends inward in the vehicle width direction from the upper end of the insertion portion 44B and faces the upper surface of the lower wall portion 32.
In this embodiment, the upper regulating portion 44A extends along the inclined surface 36 of the outer member 24 with a gap secured between the upper regulating portion 44A and the inclined surface 36.
The downward regulating portion 44C extends from the lower end of the insertion portion 44B located below the opening 34 toward the inside in the vehicle width direction relative to the opening 34 and is arranged to face the lower surface of the lower wall portion 32 while maintaining a vertical gap.

As shown in FIG. 1, the gap S1 in the vehicle width direction between the outer peripheral edge of the opening 34 in the vehicle width direction and the insertion portion 44B is formed larger than the gap S2 in the vehicle width direction between the inner peripheral edge of the opening 34 in the vehicle width direction and the insertion portion 44B. Even if a load is applied to the inner member 26 from the occupant's toes toward the outside in the vehicle width direction, the insertion portion 44B moves within the range of the gap S1, thereby preventing damage to the inner member 26 or the outer member 24.
In addition, the gap S2 is formed smaller than the gap S1, so that even if a load is applied downward from the occupant's toes to the inner end portion 38 of the outer member 24 and the outer member 24 is displaced, the inclined surface 36 of the outer member 24 is securely engaged with the downward regulating portion 44C of the inner member 26, so that the outer member 24 will not come off the inner member 26.

According to this embodiment, the inner member 26 is provided with a first regulating portion 44 which is inserted from above into the opening 34 of the lower wall portion 32 of the outer member 24 with a gap provided between the opening 34 and the peripheral edge of the opening 34, and which regulates the downward and outward displacement of the lower wall portion 32 in the vehicle width direction.
Therefore, when a load from the occupant's toes is applied to the outer member 24, the first regulating portion 44 regulates the downward and outward displacement of the lower wall portion 32 of the outer member 24 in the vehicle width direction, thereby reducing the load applied to the outer member 24.
This is advantageous in preventing the door garnish 22 from falling off from the vehicle door 10 while improving the durability of the door garnish 22 .

In addition, according to this embodiment, the first regulating portion 44 has an insertion portion 44B that extends in the vertical direction and is inserted into the opening 34, and a downward regulating portion 44C that extends from the lower end of the insertion portion 44B toward the inside in the vehicle width direction more inward than the opening 34 and faces the lower surface of the lower wall portion 32.
Therefore, when a load from the occupant's feet is applied to the outer member 24, the lower surface of the lower wall portion 32 abuts against the downward regulating portion 44C, thereby more reliably regulating the downward displacement of the lower wall portion 32, which is advantageous in reducing the load applied to the outer member 24 and is more advantageous in preventing the door garnish 22 from falling off from the vehicle door 10 while improving the durability of the door garnish 22.
In addition, the gap (the gap on the inner side in the vehicle width direction) between the opening 34 and the first regulating portion 44 (insertion portion 44B) can be covered from below by the lower regulating portion 44C, which is advantageous in preventing foreign objects from entering the space between the inner member 26 and the side sill 18 from below through the gap.

In addition, according to this embodiment, the first regulating portion 44 includes an upper regulating portion 44A that extends inward in the vehicle width direction from the upper end of the insertion portion 44B and faces the upper surface of the lower wall portion 32. Therefore, when a load from the occupant's toes is applied to the outer member 24, the upward displacement of the lower wall portion 32 is restricted by the upper regulating portion 44A, which is advantageous in reducing the load applied to the outer member 24 and is more advantageous in preventing the door garnish 22 from falling off from the vehicle door 10 while improving the durability of the door garnish 22.
In addition, the first regulating portion 44 can form a maze-shaped gap between the first regulating portion 44 and the lower wall portion 32 by using the lower regulating portion 44C, the insertion portion 44B, and the upper regulating portion 44A, which is more advantageous in preventing foreign objects from entering the space between the inner member 26 and the side sill 18 through the gap between the first regulating portion 44 and the outer peripheral portion of the opening 34 in the vehicle width direction.

In addition, according to this embodiment, an inclined surface 36 that slopes upward toward the inside in the vehicle width direction is formed in a portion of the lower wall portion 32 that is more inward in the vehicle width direction than the opening 34, and the upper regulating portion 44A of the first regulating portion 44 extends along the inclined surface 36.
As a result, the maze shape of the gap between the upper regulating portion 44A and the inclined surface 36 can be made more complex, which is more advantageous in preventing foreign objects from entering the space between the inner member 26 and the side sill 18 through the gap between the outer peripheral portion of the opening 34 in the vehicle width direction and the first regulating portion 44; and since the inclined surface 36 and the upper regulating portion 44A are inclined, this is advantageous in expelling foreign objects downward through the gap between the inclined surface 36 and the upper regulating portion 44A.

Furthermore, according to this embodiment, the inner member 26 has the inclined portion 46 that inclines downward and inward in the vehicle width direction toward the inner end portion 38 of the lower wall portion 32 of the outer member 24 .
Therefore, even if an occupant hits the inner member 26 with their toes, the toes are smoothly guided downward along the inclined portion 46, allowing the toes to easily remove from the inner member 26, which is advantageous in preventing the toes from getting caught on the inner end portion 38 of the outer member 24.
This is advantageous in reducing the load applied to the outer member 24 from the occupant's feet, and is more advantageous in preventing the door garnish 22 from falling off from the vehicle door 10 while improving the durability of the door garnish 22.

In addition, according to this embodiment, the inner member 26 has a second regulating portion 48 that protrudes outward in the vehicle width direction from the outer surface of the inner member 26 in the vehicle width direction and is arranged opposite the lower flange 16 of the vehicle door 10, and abuts against the lower flange 16 to regulate the displacement of the inner member 26 outward in the vehicle width direction.
Therefore, when a load is applied to the inner member 26 from the occupant's toes, the load applied to the inner member 26 is received by the lower flange 16 via the second regulating portion 48, which is advantageous in reducing the load applied from the inner member 26 to the outer member 24, and is more advantageous in preventing the door garnish 22 from falling off from the vehicle door 10 while improving the durability of the door garnish 22.

Furthermore, according to this embodiment, the cushioning member 52 is provided on the contact surface 50 where the second restricting portion 48 contacts the lower flange 16 .
Therefore, when a load from the occupant's toes is applied to the inner member 26, this is advantageous in suppressing the generation of unpleasant noises when the abutment surface 50 of the second restricting portion 48 abuts against the lower flange 16 via the buffer member 52, and is advantageous in ensuring the comfort of the occupant.

In addition, according to this embodiment, the lower wall portion 32 of the outer member 24 is extended to a position that covers the gap between the vehicle door 10 and the side sill 18 when the vehicle door 10 is closed, and its inner end portion 38 is formed to abut against the seal member 20 provided on the side sill 18, which is advantageous in preventing foreign matter from entering the space between the inner member 26 and the side sill 18 from between the inner end portion 38 of the outer member 24 and the side sill 18.
