After that, the rear wheels 18a and 18b are moved by pulling the ascending grip portion 32 toward the front and moving the casters 20a and 20b in the direction of arrow J to return the posture of the stair climbing vehicle 1 to the original posture. As the casters 20a and 20b move to the tread 91 one step higher, the casters 20a and 20b engage with the nose 92 one step higher to reach the state shown in FIG. 4 (a). By repeating this operation, the stair climbing vehicle 1 can be safely and surely raised step by step.

On the other hand, when lowering the stairs, as shown in FIG. 5A, the rear wheels 18a and 18b are placed on the tread 91 of the stairs 90, and the casters 20a and 20b are engaged with the nose 92 of the tread 91 one step higher. In this state, as shown in FIG. 5B, by stepping on the stepping portion 43 in the arrow K direction, the pressing portion 52 presses the kick 93 in the arrow L direction, and the casters 20a and 20b and the stair nose The engagement with 92 is released. As a result, the rear wheels 18a and 18b can be smoothly moved to the tread 91 one step lower, and the casters 20a and 20b engage with the step nose 92 to be in the state shown in FIG. 5A. By repeating this operation, the stair climbing vehicle 1 can be safely and surely lowered step by step.

When the handrail is provided on the stairs 90, the handrail can be held by either the left and right handrail holding portions 60a and 60b. FIG. 6 shows a state in which the handrail 94 is held by the handrail holding portion 60a when the stair climbing vehicle 1 descends the stairs 90. When the stair climbing vehicle 1 descends the stairs 90 in a normal posture, as shown in FIG. 7A, a slight gap is generated between the handrail 94 and the outer member 61a and the inner member 66a. The vehicle 1 for ascending and descending stairs can be smoothly lowered. On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 6, when the stair climbing vehicle 1 is greatly tilted forward, the handrail 94 is sandwiched between the holding portions 67a and 68a as shown in FIG. 7B, and the stair climbing vehicle 1 is sandwiched between the holding portions 67a and 68a. Is locked, so that the stairs 90 of the stair climbing vehicle 1 can be reliably prevented from falling.

In the present embodiment, since the handrail 94 is sandwiched by the plurality of engaging protrusions 64a and 65a and the inner member 66a, the stair climbing vehicle 1 can be locked at a plurality of places along the handrail 94. It is possible to reliably stop the vehicle 1 for ascending and descending stairs while maintaining the posture. In the present embodiment, the sandwiching portions 67a and 68a are formed by using the inner surface of the outer member 61a as a vertical surface and the inner surface of the inner member 66a as an inclined surface, but the inner surface of the outer member 61a is used as an inclined surface inside. The inner surface of the member 66a may be a vertical surface, or both may be an inclined surface.

When releasing the pinching of the handrail 94 by the pinching portions 67a and 68a from the state shown in FIG. 7B, as shown in FIG. 6, the pinching release lever 70a is rotated in the direction M in the arrow direction to cause a collision. The handrail 94 is pressed by the portion 73 from above in the direction N of the arrow. As a result, the holding portions 67a and 68a can be relatively raised with respect to the handrail 94 to return to the state shown in FIG. 7A.

As shown in FIG. 7A, when the handrail 94 is attached to the wall surface 96 via a plurality of attachment portions 95 provided at intervals along the handrail 94, the outer member 61a is attached to the attachment portion. There is a risk of interfering with 95. In the present embodiment, since the outer member 61a is rotatably supported and has three engaging protrusions 63a, 64a, 65a, when the outer member 61a comes into contact with the mounting portion 95 when going up and down the stairs. It is possible to continue holding the handrail 94 by any of the three engaging protrusions 63a, 64a, 65a while the outer member 61a rotates to avoid interference with the mounting portion 95. After passing through 95, the outer member 61a can be returned to its original posture by its own weight.
