湿式不織布は、主原料に合成繊維を用いて、製紙過程と同様に水に分散させた原料を抄紙機により抄紙することにより製造された不織布をさす。主原料として使用することのできる合成繊維としては、延伸ポリエステル系繊維、未延伸ポリエステル系繊維、ポリエステル系芯鞘型複合繊維、ポプロピレン系芯鞘型複合繊維等があり、その他の繊維として、レーヨン・ポリノジック・キュプラ等の再生繊維、アセテート・トリアセテート・プロミックス等の半合成繊維を含有してもよい。湿式不織布は、乾式不織布との接着性の観点から熱融着性を有するバインダー繊維(未延伸ポリエステル系繊維、ポリエステル系芯鞘型複合繊維、ポリプロピレン芯鞘型複合繊維の1種類以上)を含む。また、延伸ポリエステル系繊維及び未延伸ポリエステル系繊維を主成分とすることで、引裂強度と積層時の接着強度を両立することができる。
