Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a positive electrode active material for a potassium ion secondary battery and a secondary battery.
In recent years, research and development of post lithium ion storage batteries are strongly demanded. This research and development is very attractive to researchers in the field of storage batteries both academically and industrially. As carrier ions of the post lithium storage battery, K + , Na + , Cs + , Mg 2+ , Ca 2+ , Be 2+ , Ba 2+ , Al 3+ and the like have been studied (Patent Document 1 and the like).
In particular, potassium ions (K + ) are weaker in Lewis acidity than lithium ions and sodium ions among monovalent alkali ions, and as a result, the activation energy of the desolvation process is lower. Realization is expected. In fact, in the living body, potassium ion becomes an ion carrier and generates electricity (for example, electricity generation by fish that generates strong electricity such as electric eel), energy transmission (for example, cardiac pump), nerve transmission (for example, Hodgkin) -Huxley Axiom) etc. are known to be performed at ultra high speed. Furthermore, potassium ion (−2.925 V) exhibits high voltage when it is used as a battery carrier ion also in terms of energy density since it has a standard electrode potential in line with lithium ion (−3.045 V). It is expected to do.
Various positive electrode materials for such a potassium ion secondary battery have been proposed so far, and for example, a composite containing potassium and metal elements other than potassium such as K x CoO 2 (x = 0.6, etc.) An oxide is proposed as a positive electrode material (refer nonpatent literature 1, 2 grade | etc.,).
However, although the composite oxide positive electrode material containing potassium has a high theoretical capacity, it has high hygroscopicity and also has a flame retardancy, which may impair safety aspects such as causing ignition. In detail, the conventional composite oxide positive electrode material is a material susceptible to thermal decomposition, and oxygen was apt to be generated due to the thermal decomposition, so there was concern that combustion might be caused. As described above, since the conventional composite oxide-based positive electrode material has a high auxiliary combustion effect, in the application of the positive electrode material for the secondary battery, a problem is left in safety. At the present time, no positive electrode material has been developed, which has excellent charge and discharge performance and at the same time has suppressed combustion. Such a positive electrode material is highly useful as a novel positive electrode active material for a potassium ion secondary battery.
The present invention has been made in view of the above, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a positive electrode active material for a potassium ion secondary battery and a secondary battery in which the flame retardancy is suppressed while having excellent charge and discharge performance. Do.

Since the compound B contained in the positive electrode active material of the second embodiment further has oxygen in addition to SO 4 oxygen, the positive electrode active material of the second embodiment can provide a higher potential.
Hereinafter, other features of the positive electrode active material of the present invention (hereinafter, referred to as “the positive electrode active material of the present embodiment”) including the first embodiment and the second embodiment will be described.
(Other features of the positive electrode active material of the present embodiment)
The amount of the crystal structure which is the main phase of the compound A (including the compounds A1 to A4) or the compound B contained in the positive electrode active material of the present embodiment is not particularly limited. For example, the amount of the crystal structure which is the main phase is preferably 80 mol% or more, and more preferably 90 mol% or more, based on the entire compound A or compound B. Compound A and Compound B may be formed as a material having a single-phase crystal structure. As long as the effects of the present invention are not impaired, Compound A and Compound B may be formed of materials having a plurality of crystal structures. In addition, the crystal structure of the compound A and the compound B can be confirmed by X-ray diffraction measurement.
Compound A and Compound B can be, for example, in the form of a particulate powder. When the compound A and the compound B are in the form of particles, the average particle size thereof is preferably 0.005 to 50 μm from the viewpoint of easiness of insertion and desorption of potassium ion, high capacity, and high potential, and 0. 01-5 micrometers is more preferable, and 0.01-0.2 micrometers is especially preferable. The average particle diameter of the compound A and the compound B is measured by electron microscope (SEM) observation. The average particle size referred to herein is, for example, an arithmetic mean value of equivalent circle diameters measured by direct observation with an electron microscope.
The positive electrode active material of the present embodiment can contain a compound other than the compound A or the compound B, or various additives to such an extent that the effects of the present invention are not inhibited. Alternatively, the positive electrode active material of the first embodiment can be formed of only the compound A, and the positive electrode active material of the second embodiment can be formed of only the compound B. The positive electrode active material of the first embodiment can include only one type of compound A, or can also include two or more different types of compound A. Similarly, the positive electrode active material of the second embodiment may include only one type of compound B, or may include two or more different types of compound B.
Moreover, the positive electrode active material of this embodiment can also contain an unavoidable impurity other than the compound A or the compound B. As an unavoidable impurity, the raw material used at the time of manufacture of compound A, etc. are mentioned. The unavoidable impurities may be contained, for example, in an amount of 10 mol% or less, preferably 5 mol% or less, more preferably 2 mol% or less in the positive electrode active material.
Since the positive electrode active material of the present embodiment contains the compound A or the compound B, a potassium ion secondary battery formed using the positive electrode active material can have a high capacity.
The compound A and the compound B have a polyanion backbone structure as is apparent from the chemical composition, and in particular, the polyanion backbone structure of any of the compounds is stable. This makes it difficult for structural change due to insertion and desorption of potassium ions having a large ionic radius, and as a result, the cycle characteristics of the secondary battery can be improved. Moreover, since both the compound A and the compound B have the auxiliary combustion effect suppressed as compared with conventional potassium-based positive electrode materials, problems such as heat generation are less likely to occur, and may be present in terms of safety of the secondary battery. .
Moreover, since both the compound A and the compound B can be manufactured by an inexpensive and easy process, according to the positive electrode active material of the present embodiment, a potassium ion secondary battery can be provided at low cost. Therefore, the positive electrode active material of the present embodiment is suitable as a material for forming a lithium ion secondary battery with high energy density.
The positive electrode active material of the present embodiment can also contain a complex of the compound A or the compound B and a carbon material (for example, carbon black such as acetylene black etc.). Thereby, since the carbon material suppresses the grain growth of the compound A or the compound B at the time of firing of the positive electrode active material, it can be a particulate positive electrode active material excellent in electrode characteristics. In this case, the content of the carbon material is preferably adjusted to 3 to 20% by mass, particularly 5 to 15% by mass in the positive electrode active material.

The compound obtained in the example is 500 ° C., whereas the conventional product K x CoO 2 (x = 0.6) is known to decompose significantly (shows a large weight loss) at 300 ° C. However, only slight decomposition (weight loss) was observed. Therefore, the conventional product is easily decomposed, and the oxygen resistance is high due to the oxygen generated by the decomposition, but the product of the example is thermally stable and hardly generates oxygen, so the combustion resistance even in the medium temperature range (300 to 500 ° C.) Is considered to be suppressed.
