Abstract
Description
商業施設及び住居の屋根は屋外要素に絶えず曝されており、かかる屋外要素はしばしば過酷又は極端である。中程度の外部条件下であっても、これらの屋根は、ビル又は住居内部を環境又は気象条件の影響から隔離する屋根の性能に影響を及ぼす環境又は気象条件に曝される。世界中の多くの場所では、夏の期間の間に、屋根は、屋根材が太陽エネルギーを吸収し、高レベルの熱を保持する高熱及び日照条件に絶えず曝されている。屋根が太陽エネルギーを吸収し、熱を保持すると、その下のビル又は住居内の状態は悪影響を受け、その結果しばしば室内が不快な状態にまで暑くなることが起こる。これらの状態を改善するために、ビル又は住居は、多くの場合、内部断熱の増量又は人工的な冷却システム(例えば、HVAC機器)の多用に頼っている。しかしながら、断熱量を増大させても熱移動を低減する性能には限界があり、エネルギーコストの増大により人工的な冷却システムの多用は望ましくないもの、更には費用が高すぎるものとなる。
本発明の実施態様によれば、反射性微粒子組成物は、微粒子基材、硬度増加剤、及び顔料の微粒子混合物を含む。反射性微粒子組成物は、微粒子混合物上に疎水性外装被膜を更に含む。反射性微粒子組成物は、70%以上、例えば、80%以上又は90%以上の総日射反射率を有することができる。加えて、一部の実施態様では、疎水性外装被膜を除いた微粒子混合物は、疎水性被膜によるコーティング以前に、70%以上、例えば、80%以上又は90%以上の総日射反射率を有することができる(すなわち、コーティングされていない微粒子混合物は、70%以上、例えば、80%以上又は90%以上の総日射反射率を有することができる)。
外部環境からビル内部の業務又は生活空間への熱移動の低減は、エネルギーコストが増大するにつれ、ますます重要になってきている。特に、住居又はビルの内部空間は、一般的には、人工的な冷却システム(例えば、HVACシステム)を使用することにより、快適に維持することができるが、エネルギーコストが増大するにつれ、快適な業務又は生活空間を維持するコストも増大する。その結果として、外部環境からビル又は住居の内部空間への熱移動を低減するための方法が望ましい。実際に、熱移動のこのような低減は、快適な内部空間を維持するのに必要な人工的な冷却システムの運転時間を短縮し、これにより、そのような冷却システムにより消費されるエネルギー量を減少させる。

霞石閃長岩、カオリンクレイ(BASF Corporation(Florham Park, NJ)から得られたASP(登録商標)G90、石膏、シリカ(U.S. Silica(Frederick, MD)から得られたMIN-U-SIL(登録商標)10、BaSO4、及びZnOを、表1に示された量で混合した。ついで、水を、各混合物に、混合物の水要求量水準に応じて加えた。ついで、各湿潤混合物を、オーブンにおいて、約150℃の温度で約30分間乾燥させて、水を実質的に除去した。ついで、各乾燥混合物を粉砕し、続けて、表1で列記された温度及び表1で列記された長さの時間で焼成した。

実施例10乃至11について、霞石閃長岩、カオリンクレイ(BASF Corporation(Florham Park, NJ)から得られたASP(登録商標)G90、石膏、シリカ(U.S. Silica(Frederick, MD)から得られたMIN-U-SIL(登録商標)10、BaSO4、及びZnOの量を、表5に示されたとおりとしたこと以外は、実施例1乃至4におけるのと同様にして、コーティングされていない微粒子を調製した。実施例12については、表5に示されたように、BaSO4の代わりにエプソム塩を使用したこと以外は、実施例1乃至4におけるのと同様にして、コーティングされていない微粒子を調製した。加えて、微粒子混合物の各々についての焼く(又は焼成)温度及び焼く(又は焼成)長さを、表5に示されたとおりとした。

- 前記微粒子混合物を前記熱処理前に粉砕することを更に含む、請求項17記載の方法。
- 前記微粒子混合物を前記粉砕前に乾燥させることを更に含む、請求項19記載の方法。
- 請求項1記載の反射性微粒子組成物を製造する方法であって、
前記微粒子基材、前記硬度増加剤、前記顔料、及び液状媒体を混合して、前記微粒子混合物を形成することと、
前記微粒子混合物を最高約800℃の温度で乾燥させて、乾燥微粒子混合物を形成することと、
前記乾燥微粒子混合物を粉砕して、粉砕微粒子混合物及び微細微粒子を形成することと、
前記微細微粒子を、追加量の前記微粒子基材、前記硬度増加剤、前記顔料、及び前記液状媒体と混合して、第2微粒子混合物を形成することと、
前記微粒子混合物及び前記第2微粒子混合物を熱処理することと、
前記微粒子混合物及び前記第2微粒子混合物を疎水性被膜組成物と混合して、前記微粒子混合物上に前記疎水性外装被膜を形成することと
を含む方法。 - 前記微細微粒子が、40メッシュ以下のふるいを通過するのに十分な粒径を有する、請求項21記載の方法。
