Abstract
【解決手段】両方の平面方向に表示することが可能な面状発光体103と、光反射状態と光透過状態とを外部から電気的に切り替え得る調光素子101、2枚を光反射状態において光反射面となる方向を前記面状発光体に向けて狭持し、さらに液晶素子104a、104b2枚で狭持した構成とを有することにより、前記調光素子に印加する電圧により光の出射方向を片面のみ、両面ともに切り替えることを可能とする。

Description
1)閉じた状態から開いた状態にするヒンジと表示部を180度回転させるためのヒンジの2つのヒンジを有する構造。(レノボ社製ThinkPad X220 Tablet)
2)閉じた状態から開いた状態になり、さらに表示部を本体部の裏側に巻きつけるように開くようヒンジを2つ具備した構造。(Panasonic社製レッツノートAX2)
3)本体部の端と表示部の中央部分にヒンジを設けて表示部を回転させる構造(SONY社製VAIO Duo 11)
この調光素子の原理は、非特許文献3や特許文献2にあるように、アムステルダム自由大学のグリーセン教授らにより発見されたものである。この動作原理は、イットリウム(Y)やランタン(La)などの希土類の金属薄膜が水素と結合することにより透明状態になり、水素が抜けることで金属光沢を有する状態(鏡面状態)に変化するものであり、この水素の出し入れに際してパラジウムが触媒として働くため、希土類金属薄膜の表面にごく薄いパラジウム層を設けたものである。
本発明における第1の実施の形態は、図1に示した液晶素子104a、104bを用いた構造である。以下の説明は図1を基にして説明する。
このような考えによる調光素子の切り替えのシーケンス例を次に記す。
1) 表示方向の切り替え開始
2) バックライト部103を挟むように配置された2枚の液晶素子104a、104bを双方とも黒表示とする。
3) 調光素子101の状態を変更開始(光を出射させたい方向に配置されている電圧制御部105aまたは105bの電圧を切り替える。例えば、104a側で表示を行いたければ、電圧制御部105aが接続された調光素子101の光反射面側をマイナス側にスイッチ、一方、電圧制御部105bが接続された調光素子101の光反射面側をプラス側にスイッチする。)
4) 調光素子101の状態変更終了
5) 調光素子101を透過状態にした側の液晶素子104a、104bの表示動作開始

6) 調光素子101を反射状態にした側の液晶素子104a、104bの表示動作を停止(上記3)の例では液晶素子104bの表示動作を停止する。なお、多少消費電力が上がるが、黒表示のままでも特に問題にはならない。)

また、次のように切り替え時にバックライトを消灯しても構わない。
1) 表示方向の切り替え開始
2) バックライト103の発光停止、表示させたい方向の液晶素子104a、104bのいづれかまたは両方の表示動作を開始

本実施の形態においては、第1の実施の形態においては単体で実装させた調光素子101とバックライト部103を統合することにより薄型化を実現した形態を示す。
本発明における第3の実施の形態は、図2Bを用いて説明を行う。
この様に切替機構を設けることで、表示部201を本体部202から起こすことで、本体部202に具備されたキーボードやマウスパッドなどの入力装置を使うことができるため、高速に入力が可能であるという利点がある。また、重量がかさむパーツを本体部202に格納しているため、重心を低くすることができ、転倒などのリスクを回避することができるなど利点が多い。

Claims (6)
- 面状に形成され、面の両方の方向に光を出射することが可能な面状発光体と、前記面状発光体を狭持するように配置された光反射状態と光透過状態とを外部から電気的に切り替える調光素子2枚と、さらにその外部に前記面状発光体と前記調光素子を狭持するように配置された液晶素子2枚とを有し、前記調光素子は、前記調光素子に印加する電圧により光の出射方向を片面のみ、両面ともに切り替え、表示方向を任意に切り替える機能を有することを特徴とする表示素子。
- 前記調光素子は、前記面状発光体側から反射調光層、触媒層、固体電解質層、イオン貯蔵層、透明導電膜の順番に設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の表示素子。
- 前記面状発光体は、前記面状発光体の表面以外の部分に点状の白濁部を有しており、前記面状発光体の横に光源を具備していることを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の表示素子。
- 前記面状発光体は、1対の面状透明体を貼り合わせた構造を有しており、片方の面状透明体の一方の表面に白色インク部を有しており、他方の表面に前記調光素子を具備し、他方の面状透明体のひとつの表面に前記調光素子を具備し、両方の前記面状透明体をそれぞれの調光素子を具備する側を外側にして接着剤もしくは粘着剤により貼り合わせたことを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載の表示素子。
- 前記液晶素子として、ノーマリブラック型の液晶モードを用いていることを特徴とする請求項1から4の一に記載の表示素子。
- 請求項1から5の一に記載された表示素子を有する表示装置を表示部、入力装置を具備する部分を本体部としたとき、前記表示部と前記本体部を重ねたときには前記表示部の外側になる方向に光が出射するように制御され、前記表示部を前記本体部から起こしたときには前記表示部の内側となる方向に表示が可能になるように制御したことを特徴とする携帯型情報装置。
