【解決手段】一対の基板1,2の内面側の各々に設けられた第1電極4及び第2電極5間に配置される電気泳動層3と、第1電極4と電気泳動層3との境界に配置される境界層6bとを備えた電気泳動表示装置100に関する。境界層6の膜厚をT1とし、体積抵抗率をρ1とし、電気泳動層3の膜厚をT0とし、体積抵抗率をρ0としたとき、境界層6における膜厚及び体積抵抗率が次式、(ρ1/T1)≧1×1013を満たし、境界層6及び電気泳動層3の各膜厚及び各体積抵抗率が次式、(ρ1・T1)/(ρ0・T0)≦1/9を満たす。

Description
この構成によれば、例えば接着層、応力緩和層等から構成される境界層の厚みを30μm以上まで大きくできるので、接着或いは応力緩和のために十分な厚みを確保することができる。また、境界層が例えばエンボス加工により製造された隔壁部の残渣である場合、残渣の厚みの許容幅を広げることができるので、エンボス加工を容易に行うことができる。また、境界層がシール層である場合、残渣或いはシール層の厚みのマージンを拡げることができる。
この構成によれば、例えば接着層、応力緩和層等から構成される境界層の厚みを30μm以上まで大きくできるので、接着或いは応力緩和のために十分な厚みを確保することができる。また、境界層が例えばエンボス加工により製造された隔壁部の残渣である場合、或いはシール層である場合、残渣或いはシール層の厚みのマージンを拡げることができる。
この構成によれば、隔壁部材の残渣が生じた場合であってもリーク電流を抑制しつつ、電気泳動層に良好に電圧を印加することで所望の表示特性を得ることができる。
図2に示すように画素電極4及び共通電極5間には、隔壁部材6の底部6b及び電気泳動層3の順に積層されている。ここで、底部6bの膜厚をT1とし、体積抵抗率ρ1とし、電気泳動層3の膜厚をT0とし、体積抵抗率ρ0とする。
次に、上記各実施形態の電気泳動表示装置を電子機器に適用した場合について説明する。

Claims (6)
- 一対の基板の内面側の各々に設けられた第1電極及び第2電極間に配置される電気泳動層と、
前記第1電極と前記電気泳動層との境界に配置される境界層とを備え、
前記境界層の膜厚をT1cmとし、体積抵抗率をρ1Ω・cmとし、
前記電気泳動層の膜厚をT0cmとし、体積抵抗率をρ0Ω・cmとしたとき、
前記境界層における前記膜厚及び前記体積抵抗率が次式、
(ρ1/T1)≧1×1013Ωを満たし、
前記境界層及び前記電気泳動層の前記各膜厚及び前記各体積抵抗率が次式、
(ρ1・T1)/(ρ0・T0)≦1/9を満たすことを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 前記電気泳動層における前記膜厚及び前記体積抵抗率が次式、
(ρ0・T0)≧1×109cm2をさらに満たすことを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電気泳動表示装置。 - 一対の基板の内面側の各々に設けられた第1電極及び第2電極間に配置される電気泳動層と、
前記第1電極と前記電気泳動層との境界に配置される境界層とを備え、
前記境界層の膜厚をT1cmとし、体積抵抗率をρ1Ω・cmとし、
前記電気泳動層の膜厚をT0cmとし、体積抵抗率をρ0Ω・cmとしたとき、
前記境界層における前記膜厚及び前記体積抵抗率が次式、
(ρ1/T1)≧5×1012Ωを満たし、
前記境界層及び前記電気泳動層の前記各膜厚及び前記各体積抵抗率が次式、
(ρ1・T1)/(ρ0・T0)≦2/3を満たすことを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置。 - 前記電気泳動層における前記膜厚及び前記体積抵抗率が次式、
(ρ0・T0)≧1×108cm2をさらに満たすことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の電気泳動表示装置。 - 前記境界層が、前記電気泳動層を配置する画素領域を区画するとともにエンボス加工により形成された隔壁部材の残渣であることを特徴とする請求項1〜4のいずれか一項に記載の電気泳動表示装置。
- 請求項1〜5のいずれか一項に記載の電気光学装置を備えたことを特徴とする電子機器。
