Abstract
【解決手段】透明電極と、対向電極と、前記透明電極及び前記対向電極に挟まれて位置する発光層と、前記発光層側と反対側の表面から外部へ前記発光層からの光を出射する前面基板と、前記発光層からの光を反射する拡散反射体と、を有する有機発光装置において、拡散反射体を前記前面基板の側面や表面の所定の位置に設ける。

Description
上記の前面基板1としては、ソーダライムガラス、無アルカリガラス等の透明ガラス板、アクリル樹脂、PET樹脂、PEN樹脂、シクロオレフィン樹脂、オレフィン樹脂、カーボネート樹脂、ナイロン樹脂、フッ素系樹脂、シリコーン系樹脂、ポリイミド樹脂、ポリサルフォン樹脂等などの透明プラスチック板などを用いることができる。前面基板1は光透過性であればよく、無色透明の他に多少着色されているものであってもよい。特に、380nm〜780nmの波長範囲の光を透過させるものが望ましい。また前面基板1の屈折率は特に限定されるものではないが、1.6以上のものが好ましい、屈折率が1.6以上の前面基板1を用いることにより、透明電極2と前面基板1との屈折率段差界面で生じる全反射を抑えることができ、透明電極2内で導波して失われる光を前面基板1へ取り出すことができ、基板に閉じ込められる光を空気へ取り出すという本発明の効果を更に向上することができる。高屈折率の前面基板1としては、例えば、アンチモン、亜鉛、ジルコニウム、タンタル、タングステン、鉛等を含有する高屈折率ガラス、塩素、臭素、ヨウ素、硫黄等を導入して屈折率を高めたプラスチック、延伸結晶化によって屈折率を高めたプラスチックなどを挙げることができる。具体的な市販品としては例えば住田光学ガラス製の各種光学ガラスが挙げられる。
上記の陽極として形成される透明電極2は有機発光層3にホールを注入するための電極であり、この透明電極2(陽極)としては、仕事関数の大きい金属、合金、電気伝導性化合物、あるいはこれらの混合物からなる電極材料を用いるのが好ましく、特に仕事関数が4eV以上の電極材料を用いるのが好ましい。このような電極材料としては、具体的には、金などの金属、CuI,ITO(インジウムチンオキサイド),SnO2,ZnO,IZO(インジウムジンクオキサイド) 等の導電性透明材料が挙げられる。例えばこれらの電極材料を前面基板1の上に真空蒸着法やスパッタリング法、CVD法、イオンプレーティング法、塗布法等の方法で成膜することによって、透明電極2(陽極)を薄膜として作製することができる。透明電極2(陽極)の光透過率は80%以上であることが好ましい。また、透明電極2(陽極)のシート抵抗は数百Ω/□以下であることが好ましく、特に100Ω/□以下であることが好ましい。さらに透明電極2(陽極)の膜厚は、透明電極2(陽極)の透明性、導電性等の特性を上記のように制御するために、材料により異なるが、80〜400nmに設定され、より好ましくは100〜200nmに設定される。
上記の有機発光層3は、正孔輸送層、発光層、電子輸送層、バッファ層などからなる。ただし、少なくとも発光層さえあれば、正孔輸送層、電子輸送層、バッファ層はなくてもよい。また、有機発光層には後述する正孔注入層または電子注入層が含まれる場合がある。
上記の陰極として形成される対向電極4は、有機発光層3に電子を注入するための電極であり、この対向電極4(陰極)としては、仕事関数の小さい金属、合金、電気伝導性化合物及びこれらの混合物からなる電極材料を用いることが好ましく、仕事関数が5eV以下の電極材料を用いるのが好ましい。このような電極材料としては、アルカリ金属、アルカリ金属のハロゲン化物、アルカリ金属の酸化物、アルカリ土類金属、希土類等や、これらと他の金属との合金などを用いることができるものであり、例えばナトリウム、ナトリウム−カリウム合金、リチウム、マグネシウム、アルミニウム、マグネシウム−銀混合物、マグネシウム−インジウム混合物、アルミニウム−リチウム合金、Al/Al2O3混合物、Al/LiF混合物などを例として挙げることができる。対向電極4(陰極)は、例えば上記の電極材料を、真空蒸着法やスパッタリング法等の方法により、薄膜に形成することによって作製することができ、対向電極4(陰極)の光透過率は10%以下にすることが好ましい。対向電極4(陰極)の膜厚は、対向電極4(陰極)の光透過率等の特性を上記のように制御するために、材料により異なるが、通常500nm以下に設定するのが好ましく、好ましくは100〜200nmの範囲とするのがよい。
実施例1で作製した図1に対応する有機発光装置素子を、拡散反射体61a,61b,62a,62bを形成することなくそのまま用いた。

- 透明電極と、
対向電極と、
前記透明電極及び前記対向電極に挟まれて位置する発光層と、
前記発光層側と反対側の表面から外部へ、前記発光層からの光を出射する前面基板と、
前記発光層からの光を反射する拡散反射体と、を有する有機発光装置であって、
前記拡散反射体は、前記前面基板の側面を覆う第1拡散反射体と、前記前面基板の前記発光層側の表面のうち非発光領域を覆う第2拡散反射体と、を含むことを特徴とする有機発光装置。 - 請求項1に記載の有機発光装置であって、
前記第1拡散反射体及び前記第2拡散反射体の拡散反射率が90%以上であることを特徴とする有機発光装置。 - 請求項1に記載の有機発光装置であって、
前記第1拡散反射体及び前記第2拡散反射体の拡散反射率が95%以上であることを特徴とする有機発光装置。 - 請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の有機発光装置であって、
前記拡散反射体は、前記前面基板の前記発光層側と反対側の表面のうち非発光領域を覆う第3拡散反射体を含むことを特徴とする有機発光装置。 - 請求項4に記載の有機発光装置であって、
前記第3拡散反射体の拡散反射率が90%以上であることを特徴とする有機発光装置。 - 請求項1乃至5のいずれかに記載の有機発光装置であって、
前記前面基板の波長587.6nmにおける屈折率が1.6以上であることを特徴とする有機発光装置。 - 請求項1乃至6のいずれかに記載の有機発光装置であって、
前記前面基板の波長587.6nmにおける屈折率が、前記発光層の屈折率以上であることを特徴とする有機発光装置。 - 請求項1乃至7のいずれかに記載の有機発光装置であって、
前記前面基板と前記透明電極との間に封止材を有することを特徴とする有機発光装置。 - 請求項1乃至8のいずれかに記載の有機発光装置であって、
前記前面基板と前記拡散反射体との間に接着剤を有することを特徴とする有機発光装置。 - 請求項1乃至9のいずれかに記載の有機発光装置であって、
前記発光層からみて前記前面基板側と反対側に位置する背面基板を有し、
前記拡散反射体は、前記背面基板の側面を覆う第4拡散反射体と、前記背面基板の前記発光層側と反対側の表面のうち非発光領域を覆う第5拡散反射体と、を含むことを特徴とする有機発光装置。 - 透明電極と、
対向電極と、
前記透明電極及び前記対向電極に挟まれて位置する発光層と、
前記発光層側と反対側の表面から外部へ、前記発光層からの光を出射する前面基板と、
前記発光層からみて前記前面基板側と反対側に位置する背面基板と、
前記発光層からの光を反射する拡散反射体と、を有する有機発光装置であって、
前記拡散反射体は、前記前面基板の側面及び前記背面基板の側面を覆う第6拡散反射体と、前記背面基板の前記発光層側と反対側の表面のうち非発光領域を覆う第7拡散反射体と、を含むことを特徴とする有機発光装置。
