Abstract
Description
[Field of the Invention]
The present invention relates to a carpet cleaning composition containing a polyacrylic acid polymer emulsifier that requires little or no surfactant and does not leave an adhesive residue when dried.
[Background of the invention]
Carpets are usually finished with a number of different types of processing including gloss, anti-smudge, anti-static, and water and oil repellent treatments.
One finish that is often performed on carpets provides "antifouling" or "anti-fouling resistance" to the carpet. This property prevents dirt from adhering to the carpet during normal use as it walks over the carpet, thereby making the blotting more effective. The antifouling properties of carpets vary considerably. Finishing increases the anti-fouling effect of the carpet but unfortunately gets dirty.
Furthermore, regardless of whether or not such a finish is applied to the carpet, cleaning the carpet with a carpet cleaning solution of an unfavorable composition is effective for all antifouling treatments that may be applied to the carpet. Is weakening. For example, cleaning compositions containing adhesive materials such as oily materials, adhesive detergents and hygroscopic salts such as hygroscopic salts can eliminate sticky or adhesive residues that attract dust or mud. Sometimes left. Thus, freshly cleaned carpet is often said to “stain relatively quickly” than new carpet.
Typically, a surfactant is used in the carpet cleaning solution, which contributes to the efficiency of the detergency and also emulsifies any water insoluble solvent that may be present to remove oily soils. . However, particularly when using high concentrations of surfactant, the surfactant often leaves an adhesive residue after the cleaning solution is dried.
Various carpet cleaning compositions are currently available on the market. Most of these consist of polymer resins and surfactants and solvents, typically in liquid or aerosol form, but powdered forms are also available.
Some of these cleaning solutions are formulated to minimize sticky residues. For example, French Patent No. 2,272,216 describes the cleaning of fabric materials such as rugs and carpets as well as antistatic and antifouling treatments with foamed aqueous emulsions. This foamed aqueous emulsion, when dried, leaves a solid, non-sticky residue on the fiber, which can be removed by brushing or blotting.
Billman U.S. Pat. No. 5,534,167 describes about 0.5 wt.% To about 6.0 wt.% Ethylene glycol n-hexyl ether, about 0.00 wt.%, Which produces a water and oil repellent surface when dried. An interface of about 0.25 wt% to about 5.0 wt% selected from the group consisting of 05 wt% to about 2.0 wt% water soluble or water miscible fluorinated hydrocarbons, nonionic surfactants and mixtures thereof Describes an activator and a carpet cleaning and repair composition comprising from about 0.5 wt% to about 7.0 wt% olefin / acrylic polymer having an acid number of from about 10 to about 450. Billman states that the composition creates an antifouling residue that is not tacky when dried and restores the water-repellent finish of the carpet.
Unexpectedly, the present invention has good cleaning performance and requires little or no surfactant for good emulsification and leaves a sticky residue on the carpet when the solution dries. A carpet cleaning solution containing no new polymer emulsifier is provided. Furthermore, the composition does not contain fluorine species.
[Summary of the Invention]
The present invention provides about 50 wt% to about 98 wt% water, about 0.05 wt% to about 2 wt% of at least one emulsifier that is an acrylic copolymer, about 1 wt% to about 50 wt% of at least one hydrocarbon, The present invention relates to carpet cleaning compositions containing 0 wt% to about 1 wt% surfactant and at least one alkaline compound for buffering. The resulting carpet cleaning composition has a pH adjusted to about 5 to about 10. The composition is prepared by mixing.
Unexpectedly, due to the fact that the emulsifier content is very low, the fact that there is little or no surfactant in the cleaning composition of the present invention, the final air dry residue is sticky or It is not adhesive. This is particularly beneficial for carpet cleaning, where residual stickies can attract dust and dirt particles, which can shorten the useful life of the carpet, for example.

The surfactant is 0 wt% to about 1 wt% of the total composition, preferably about 0.01 wt% to about 0.7 wt%, more preferably about 0.01 wt% to about 0.6 wt%, even more preferably about 0.01 wt% to about 0.5 wt%, most preferably about 0.03 wt% to about 0.5 wt% of the total composition. In one preferred embodiment of the present invention, the surfactant is present at a concentration of about 0.07 wt% of the total composition, and in another preferred embodiment, at a concentration of 0.5 wt%. It is preferred to use a surfactant at a low concentration to minimize or eliminate any adherent residue that may remain on the carpet surface. This prevents the carpet surface from getting dirty again quickly. However, some surfactant is preferred to improve wettability to the carpet surface.
Useful surfactants here may include anionic, nonionic, amphoteric, zwitterionic or mixtures thereof such as those with silicon or fluorine. Optionally, the cleaning composition of the present invention comprises a co-solvent, dye or colorant, fragrance or fragrance, antibacterial agent, bleach or brightener, detergent, preservative, viscosity control agent such as salt, pH adjustment. Agents or buffers, antistatic agents, softeners, insect repellents, insect repellents, enzymes, soil suspension agents, thickeners and the like can be included. These types of additives and many others are known to those skilled in the art and are selected depending on the particular end use of the composition.
The balance of the cleaning composition is water. The composition may contain about 55 wt% to about 98 wt% water, preferably about 55 wt% to about 95 wt% water.
Buffering agents can be used to adjust the pH of the composition. Desirably, the composition has a pH of about 4 to about 10. Suitable buffering agents include amines and ammonium compounds such as 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (amino alcohol) and ammonium hydroxide; alkaline earth metals and alkali metal salts and hydroxides; alkaline earths Mention may be made of metal, alkali metal and ammonium carbonates, bicarbonates, metasilicates and orthophosphates. The ones listed here are not exclusive and one skilled in the art will understand compounds that can be used as buffers. Where appropriate, they can be added in amounts up to about 10 wt% to bring the pH of the composition to about 4-10. In this pH range, it is understood that some or all of the carboxylic acid groups of the emulsifier are in salt form. Therefore, in the description of the present specification, the “acidic copolymer” includes a salt form existing in this pH range.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, ammonium hydroxide or sodium carbonate is used as a buffer. The inventors of the present invention have found that when using these buffers, even typically non-dried surfactants can be used in the present invention. This significantly increases the number and type of surfactants that can be used in the present invention. In the most preferred embodiment of the invention, ammonium hydroxide is used as a buffer in combination with sodium dioctyl sulfosuccinate, a surfactant that does not dry itself. The composition dries and does not leave an adhesive residue on the carpet.
In contrast, when using 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol, a self-adhesive compound, as a buffer, the choice of surfactant must be made more carefully. Surfactants that have proven particularly beneficial for use with 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol include linear alcohol ethoxylates and tetrasodium N- (1,2-dicarboxyethyl) N. Mention may be made of -alkyl (C-18) sulfosuccinates. However, it is noted that some surfactants that are easy to dry do not wet the surface well. Those skilled in the art know how to select a surfactant based on its dryness and wettability.
The composition of the present invention is useful as a cleaning composition. In particular, the compositions of the present invention are useful for cleaning carpets and rugs, for example, by leaving no sticky residue.
