Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an ink jet recording apparatus and an adjustment method thereof.
There is known an ink jet recording apparatus provided with a so-called full line type recording head having a recording width corresponding to the width of a recording medium. In an ink jet recording apparatus having such a recording head, an image can be recorded on almost the entire surface of the recording medium by moving the recording head once relative to the recording medium.
In a recording apparatus provided with a full-line type recording head, if an error occurs in the mounting position of the recording head or the relative mounting position among a plurality of recording heads, the error occurs on the recording medium. In some cases, the landing position (attachment position) of the ink may shift. This deviation becomes a cause of lowering the recording quality. In the specification of the present application, such a process of correcting the deviation of the ink landing position is referred to as recording position adjustment.
As a means for adjusting the recording position as described above, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2004-228620 calculates a relative position between patterns by using a pattern matching technique, and performs a recording position adjustment based on the relative position. It is disclosed. Basically, in
Here, after a test pattern for performing pattern matching using a recording head is formed on a recording medium, when the test pattern is read using a reading device, the read image is an aberration of a lens used in the reading device. May be affected. That is, due to the influence of the aberration of the lens, the relative positions of the patterns obtained by matching in the read image are different from the relative positions on the actual recording medium. As a result, there is a problem that the amount of deviation of the ink landing position from the ideal position on the recording medium that occurs during recording cannot be measured accurately.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide a technique for accurately measuring a measurement error regardless of the influence of lens aberration when a recording position adjustment pattern is read.
In order to solve the above problems, an ink jet recording apparatus according to the present invention provides a recording medium that relatively moves in a direction intersecting the nozzle arrangement direction with respect to a recording head including a plurality of nozzle rows in which nozzles for ejecting ink are arranged. In contrast, an ink jet recording apparatus that performs recording by ejecting ink from the recording head, wherein ink is ejected from nozzles of a plurality of nozzle arrays of the recording head, and is applied to different nozzle groups in each nozzle array. The test pattern is read as an image, comprising: a recording unit that records a test pattern including a plurality of corresponding matching patterns on a recording medium; a lens; and a reading sensor that optically reads the image through the lens. Reading means and a plurality of matching patterns in the image read by the reading means. Pattern matching is performed on the screen to obtain a distance between the plurality of matching patterns in an image read by the reading unit based on the distance, and a first calculation unit that obtains a distance between the plurality of matching patterns. Second calculation means for calculating a correction coefficient for correction; third calculation means for calculating a deviation amount of the landing position of the ink ejected from the recording head based on the read image and the correction coefficient; Adjusting means for adjusting a landing position of ink ejected from the recording head based on the shift amount.
According to the present invention, even when the image is distorted due to the reading device during pattern reading, the measurement error can be reduced.

The image forming apparatus shown in FIG. 1 includes a recording function and a reading apparatus that reads an image on a recorded material. However, the image forming apparatus may be a composite apparatus to which other functions are added. In addition, a recording material (recording medium or recording sheet) that uses a roll sheet as an example of recording processing will be described as an example. However, it is possible to continuously record a plurality of pages on the same surface without being cut halfway. If it is a continuous sheet of a scale, it will not be restricted to the roll shape. Further, the continuous sheet may be cut automatically by the image forming apparatus, or may be cut by a user's manual instruction. The material of the recording material is not limited to paper, and various materials can be used as long as they can be recorded. The image forming apparatus may be an image forming apparatus capable of recording not only on a continuous sheet but also on a cut sheet that has been cut into a predetermined size. Further, the recording method is not limited to the image recording by the ink jet method using the image recording liquid ink described later. Solid ink may be used as the recording agent. Further, the recording is not limited to color recording using a plurality of color recording agents, and monochrome recording using only black (including gray) may be performed. The recording is not limited to the recording of a visible image, but may be an invisible or difficult-to-view image. Other than a general image, for example, a wiring pattern, a physical pattern in manufacturing a component, a DNA base It is good also as a record of various things, such as a print of arrangement | sequences. That is, the present invention can be applied to various types of recording apparatuses as long as the recording agent can be applied to the recording material. Further, when the operation of the recording process in the image forming apparatus is controlled by an instruction from the external apparatus connected to the image forming apparatus in FIG. 1, this external apparatus becomes the recording control apparatus.
The image forming apparatus of FIG. 1 includes the following components 101 to 115, which are arranged in one housing. However, these components may be divided into a plurality of cases.
The
The image forming apparatus shown in FIG. 1 includes two roll sheet units, an
本実施形態ではK(ブラック)、M(マゼンタ)、C(シアン)、Y(イエロー)、G(グレー)、LM(ライトマゼンタ)、LC(ライトシアン)、の7色に対応した7つの記録ヘッドを有す。
A
The image forming apparatus forms an image on the sheet by ejecting ink from the
After the image is formed on the sheet, the sheet is conveyed from the
The sheet is conveyed in the direction of arrow e from the vicinity of the
The sheet conveyed from the
The sheet that has passed through the
The
In the case of normal single-sided recording, the sheet on which the image is recorded is conveyed to the

The recording position adjustment control in this embodiment when creating a recorded matter using the image forming apparatus described above, and detection of the deviation amount of the ink landing position for that purpose will be described. Relative position errors (deviations) due to their manufacture and attachment may occur between the recording heads of the image forming apparatus, between the recording chips of one recording head, and between the nozzle rows of one recording chip. There is. Then, due to such an error, when ink is ejected from the image forming apparatus to the recording medium, a deviation occurs in the landing position (attachment position) of the ink on the recording medium. As a result, the inks overlap and land, or the ink cannot land at continuous positions, and the recorded image becomes uneven. Here, if the amount of deviation of the ink landing position from the ideal position can be accurately calculated between each of these, the ink landing position is adjusted according to the amount of deviation to prevent unevenness. It becomes possible. Adjustment of the ink landing position includes shifting the ink ejection timing, changing the position of the recording head, shifting the recording position data, and changing the nozzle used for recording. Hereinafter, how to accurately calculate the deviation amount of the landing position in the present invention will be described. Hereinafter, unless otherwise specified, the “deviation amount” refers to the distance from the ideal position of the ink landing position between each. Note that the “deviation amount” may include the concept of direction in addition to the distance.

各記録ヘッド106は、記録媒体の搬送方向下流から、BK(ブラック)、M(マゼンタ)、C(シアン)、Y(イエロー)、GR(グレー)、LM(ライトマゼンタ)、LC(ライトシアン)の7色に対応している。

テストパターン403から409は、それぞれBK(ブラック)、M(マゼンタ)、C(シアン)、Y(イエロー)、GR(グレー)、LM(ライトマゼンタ)、LC(ライトシアン)の記録ヘッド106で記録されたテストパターンである。

The
The

In the present embodiment, the amount of deviation between the

In step S102, the scanner control unit detects a pattern corresponding to each recording chip from the read image of the test pattern read in step S101. Processing for detecting a pattern corresponding to each recording chip will be described in detail with reference to FIG.
In step S103, the scanner control unit selects a pattern corresponding to a recording chip that has not been analyzed, and proceeds to step S104. Hereinafter, a recording chip that records a pattern corresponding to the recording chip selected in this step is described as a recording chip to be analyzed. If the layout of the pattern corresponding to all the recording chips in the scan image has been analyzed, the process proceeds directly from step S103 to step S108.

A method for calculating the amount of deviation between the nozzle rows in this embodiment will be described in detail in the description of FIG.

In step S107, the shift amount between the recording chips between the target recording chip and its adjacent recording chip is calculated using the scan image of the pattern corresponding to the analysis target recording chip. A method for calculating the shift amount between the recording chips in the present embodiment will be described in detail with reference to FIG.
After step S107, the process returns to step S103 to search for a pattern corresponding to a recording chip that has not been analyzed. If a pattern corresponding to an unanalyzed recording chip for which steps S104 to S107 have not been performed is found, steps S104 to S107 are performed again. If a pattern corresponding to an unanalyzed recording chip is not found, it is assumed that there is no recording chip to be analyzed, and the process proceeds to step S108.
In step S108, the amount of deviation between the recording heads is calculated using the scanned image of the pattern recorded according to the pattern layout for measuring the amount of deviation between the recording heads. A method for calculating the shift amount between the print heads in this embodiment will be described in detail with reference to FIG.
A process for detecting a detection mark of a pattern corresponding to a recording chip and a process for detecting an alignment mark from a read image of a test pattern for calculating a deviation amount according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to FIG.
The process for detecting the pattern corresponding to the recording chip and the process for detecting the alignment mark described in step S102 in FIG. 10 will be described. Each detection process uses an image of a channel having the highest density in the recording color of the recording head of the pattern to be detected among the RGB3 channels of the read image. For example, an image of the R channel is used for C (cyan), a G channel is used for M (magenta), and a B channel image is used for C (yellow). In the case of a recording color having a high density in all channels, such as BK (black), the G channel is used in this embodiment.

As described above, when the three density centroids of the alignment mark are obtained below the
As shown in FIG. 6, in the present embodiment, three
After the determination of the recording chip corresponding to each pattern is completed, predetermined calculation for each pattern is started.

As shown in a
In this embodiment, the correction of zooming due to lens aberration of the CCD scanner is performed as follows. In the present embodiment, a scan image is acquired by the
Therefore, the magnification due to the lens aberration is obtained from the
In the present embodiment, the magnification obtained in this way is used in the subsequent calculation of the shift amount to cancel the influence of magnification due to lens aberration.

The pattern layout 702 for calculating the shift amount between the print heads does not have a layout for obtaining a scaling factor in the pattern, unlike the
In the present embodiment, such a case is handled as follows.
First, a pattern layout is arranged in a place where the influence of the magnification due to lens aberration is small. In the case of a CCD scanner, since it is known that the influence of lens aberration is reduced near the center of the image, a pattern is arranged at this position. In this embodiment, the reason why the recording chip for calculating the deviation amount between the recording heads is set to 4 is that the calculation is performed with the recording chip located closer to the center.

As described above, the first and second means can determine the scaling factor even when there is no pattern to be obtained, and as a result, the shift amount can be obtained with higher accuracy.
As described above, first, from the ideal distance between the nozzles and the actual distance in the scan image, the influence of lens aberration on the line row direction X of the CCD line sensor of the CCD scanner is obtained as a scaling factor. Next, a deviation amount is calculated using a pattern recorded according to the pattern layout. At this time, by performing zooming on the component in the line row direction X of the shift amount in the scanned image using the zooming factor obtained as described above, the influence of lens aberration of the CCD scanner can be reduced. Any amount received can be calculated.
In the present embodiment, the first calculation unit that calculates the distance between patterns, the second calculation unit that calculates the variable magnification, and the third calculation unit that calculates the deviation amount are provided in the
As described above, the present invention provides a technique for accurately detecting a shift amount of a pattern layout even when image distortion occurs in a scanned image obtained by reading the pattern layout by a reading unit such as a scan unit. I can do it. Therefore, even when image distortion occurs in the scanned image obtained by reading the pattern layout by the reading unit, it is possible to accurately calculate the deviation amount of the actual ink landing position from the ideal position on the recording medium. FIG. 16 shows a flow for calculating the deviation amount in the present embodiment.
Each step in FIG. 16 will be described. In step S201, the scanner unit reads a test pattern for calculating a deviation amount recorded on the recording medium. The timing at which the scanner unit starts reading the test pattern is the timing at which a predetermined amount of recording medium is conveyed from the test pattern recording end timing, even if the predetermined amount of time has elapsed from the test pattern recording start timing. There may be. The timing at which reading is completed is the timing at which a predetermined number of lines are read from the start of reading.

After step S210, the process returns to step S203 to search for a pattern corresponding to a recording chip that has not been analyzed. If a pattern corresponding to an unanalyzed recording chip for which steps S204 to S210 have not been performed is found, steps S204 to S210 are performed again. If a pattern corresponding to an unanalyzed recording chip is not found, it is determined that there is no recording chip to be analyzed, and the process proceeds to step S211.
In step S211, the shift amount between the recording heads is calculated using a scan image of a pattern recorded according to the pattern layout 702 of FIG. 7 corresponding to the analysis target recording chip. The method for calculating the shift amount between the print heads in this embodiment can be performed by the method described in detail in the first embodiment, and thus the details are omitted.

In the present embodiment, the deviation amounts of the nozzle rows A to G with respect to the nozzle H row are obtained, and the ink landing position on the recording medium is corrected. In the method shown in the first embodiment, from the straight lines formed by the pattern 1705 and the
Therefore, in the second embodiment, the amount of deviation between nozzle rows is calculated from a pattern layout in which all
First, a method for determining whether or not the layout of a pattern on a scanned image used for calculating a deviation amount is a pattern layout recorded in a state where a part of the pattern according to the pattern layout employed for recording as shown in 1703 is missing. Is explained.
Details of the method for detecting a pattern corresponding to each recording chip from the scanned image in step S202 of the flow of FIG. 16 will be described. In the first embodiment, the method for detecting a pattern using the
Further, a case where two adjacent detection marks 417 are detected will be described. If the position where two adjacent detection marks 417 are detected is the right end of the scanned image, it is determined that only one of the detected detection marks on the left side is a pattern corresponding to the recording chip. Similarly, if the position where two adjacent detection marks are detected is the left end of the scanned image, it is determined that only one of the detected detection marks on the right side is a pattern corresponding to the recording chip.

In step S202, it is recorded whether there are three or one detection mark when a pattern corresponding to each recording chip is detected. For example, if it is determined that there is one detection mark for the
Next, in step S204, according to the detection state of the detection mark in step S202, that is, determination of the number of detection marks, if there is one detection mark, it is determined that the pattern layout is not a complete pattern, and step S205. Proceed to
In step S205, the area used for obtaining the magnification due to lens aberration is changed for a pattern layout in which all patterns are not prepared.
An area used for obtaining the magnification due to the lens aberration described in the first embodiment is shown in an
In step S206, the region for obtaining the deviation amount between the nozzle rows is changed. In this embodiment, when only a part of the pattern layout can be read, only the readable deviation amount is obtained from the readable part. The pattern layout in the present embodiment is a layout in which a deviation amount can be calculated only between the nozzle row H and the nozzle row A from a part of the detection mark. Specifically, if the
In step S207, a magnification change due to lens aberration is obtained using the pattern of the region set as described above. Since this detailed method is described in the first embodiment, it is omitted here.
Finally, in step S208, the amount of deviation between the nozzle rows is calculated from the
Furthermore, if it is known in step S208 that there is a nozzle row having a tendency of a deviation amount similar to the tendency of the deviation amount between the nozzle rows H and A, the calculated nozzle rows H and A It is assumed that the amount of deviation is also applied between other nozzle rows. For example, as a result of the measurement, when it is possible to specify that the deviation amount between the nozzle rows H and A and the deviation amount between the nozzle rows H and C tend to be similar, the above-described case is possible. The deviation amount between the nozzle arrays H and A calculated as described above is also applied to the nozzle arrays H and C. As a method for identifying the tendency, there is a method of repeatedly acquiring data for a plurality of recording heads and comparing the shift amount for each nozzle array. In the recording head described in this embodiment, when the nozzles are formed on the recording chip, the nozzle arrays A, C, E, and G are in the same direction, and similarly, the nozzle arrays B, D, and F are the same. Become the direction. As a result, the deviation amounts of the nozzle rows A, C, E, and G tend to be similar, and similarly, the deviation amounts of the nozzle rows B, D, and F tend to be similar. Thus, the tendency can also be specified from the forming method at the time of nozzle formation. A fixed value is used for the shift amount between nozzle rows for which the tendency cannot be specified.
Using the method described above, it is possible to acquire a deviation amount from a pattern layout that is cut off halfway as shown in 1703 of FIG. However, in order to carry out this method, the
In the present embodiment, a method of calculating the magnification ratio due to lens aberration and the amount of deviation between nozzle rows from a pattern layout such as 1701 in which all patterns are not aligned is given as an example. However, this is not the only method for calculating each analyzable shift amount using only an analyzable pattern.
As described above, according to the ink jet recording apparatus of the present invention, even when image distortion caused by a reading device occurs during pattern reading, the amount of deviation can be calculated more accurately. As a result, the recording position can be adjusted with high accuracy. The present invention calculates the amount of deviation between nozzle rows, between recording chips, and between recording heads using pattern matching. In the above embodiment, the full line type ink jet recording apparatus has been described. However, the recording head of the present invention is not limited to the full line type, and may be a serial type.
