図1には、本実施の形態による電池パック1が充電器6に接続された状態が示されている。充電器6は充電制御ユニット61を内蔵し、当該充電制御ユニット61には抵抗62を介して基準電圧Vが印加され動作可能となっている。充電制御ユニット61の具体的構成は、充電器により異なり、ここでは充電制御ユニット61がスロースタート機能を有するものと、同機能を有しないものとに分けて説明する。本実施の形態による電池パックを、スロースタート機能を有する充電器6で充電した場合には、正規の充電動作を行うことができるが、スロースタート機能を有しない充電器6で充電しようとした場合には、電池パック1自身の判断により充電動作を行わないように構成されている。
