Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an electronic component manufacturing method and an electronic component.
As a conventional method of manufacturing an electronic component, the end face of an element (element body) formed by alternately laminating and firing green sheets and internal electrode materials is immersed in an electrode material paint (conductive paste) and first. It is known that after forming a layer, it is immersed again in an electrode material paint to form a second layer, and then fired to form an external electrode (see, for example, Patent Document 1).
In the above-described method for manufacturing an electronic component, after forming an element body, the external electrode is formed by immersing the end portion in a conductive paste and baking it. However, in this manufacturing method, when the element body is pulled away after immersion, the conductive paste is pulled near the center position of the end face, thereby increasing the thickness near the center position of the paste film, while the end face and side surfaces of the element body are increased. The thickness near the corners between them was thin. As a result, the thickness of the external electrode is reduced near the curved corner portion, and in the plating step after the baking step, there is a possibility that moisture such as a plating solution may enter the element body from the thinned portion. Therefore, in the electronic component manufactured by the conventional manufacturing method, the characteristic of the electronic component may be deteriorated due to the influence of moisture that has entered the element body during the plating process.
With regard to this point, if an attempt is made to secure a thickness near the corner portion of the paste film in the method for manufacturing an electronic component, the paste film near the center position of the end surface and the side surface portion of the element body is further increased. In addition, since the thickness of the paste film near the center position of the end surface is larger than the thickness of the side surface portion of the element body, there is a possibility that a mounting failure such as chip standing at the time of mounting an electronic component may occur. Furthermore, there is a problem in that the external dimensions of the product increase, resulting in an increase in the external dimensions of the product, making it difficult to reduce the size of the electronic component.
The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems, and prevents moisture such as plating solution from entering the element body and prevents mounting defects of electronic components and increases in product dimensions. An object of the present invention is to provide an electronic component manufacturing method and an electronic component capable of improving reliability.
In order to solve the above-described problems, a method for manufacturing an electronic component according to the present invention includes a rectangular parallelepiped element having four side surfaces connecting a pair of end faces and end faces, and an external electrode formed on the end face side of the element body. A first paste layer forming step of forming a first paste layer by applying a conductive paste to the end surface side by an immersion method, and baking the first paste layer, A first baking step for forming a baked electrode; a second paste layer forming step for forming a second paste layer on the end face side by applying a conductive paste on the baked electrode by screen printing; and a second paste A second baking step of baking the layer to form an external electrode.
In the method of manufacturing an electronic component according to the present invention, after the first paste layer formed by applying a conductive paste to the end face side of the element body is baked by the dipping method to form the baked electrode, screen printing is performed on the baked electrode. The second paste layer formed in this way is baked to form an external electrode. In the formation of the first paste layer, the conductive paste is also attached to the side surface of the element body by dipping, and the electrodes of the side portions of the electronic component necessary for the surface mounting of the electronic component are formed. Therefore, it is possible to use a low-viscosity and low-metal content (solid content concentration) paste, and the thickness of the external electrode on the side surface of the element body (H (Dimension) can be reduced. In forming the second paste layer, since the second paste layer is formed only on the top of the baked electrode by being formed by screen printing, an increase in the thickness of the side surface portion of the element body can be prevented. In addition, in the formation of the second paste layer, the second paste layer is formed on the top of the baked electrode by screen printing on average, so compared with the case where the external electrode is formed only by the dipping method, it is near the corner portion. It is possible to prevent an increase in the thickness near the center position of the end face while ensuring a sufficient thickness. Furthermore, since the second paste layer is formed and baked after the first paste layer is baked to form the baked electrode, defects of the baked electrode generated during the formation of the first paste layer and baking can be filled with the second paste layer. And a defect-free external electrode can be formed.
As described above, in the method for manufacturing an electronic component according to the present invention, the thickness of the external electrode on the side surface of the element body can be reduced, and an increase in the thickness near the center position of the end surface can be prevented. While suppressing the increase, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of mounting defects such as chip standing during mounting. In addition, since the thickness of the external electrode near the corner portion can be secured and a defect-free external electrode can be formed, moisture such as a plating solution enters the element body from the vicinity of the corner portion when plating. This can be prevented. Therefore, the reliability of the electrical component can be improved.
Further, in the conventional manufacturing method, for example, in order to prevent the penetration of moisture such as a plating solution into the element body, an external electrode having a large thickness near the central position is immersed in order to ensure the thickness near the corner portion of the element body. When the paste is applied, pinholes are likely to be formed in the paste layer due to entrainment of bubbles during the application of the paste, and drying defects are likely to occur in the dried paste layer due to drying shrinkage when the thick paste layer is dried. When the dried paste layer is baked, the paste layer shrinks in the binder removal process and baking process during baking, and defects such as cracks may occur in the paste film starting from fine defects generated particularly during drying. However, according to the method for manufacturing an electronic component according to the present invention, the second paste layer is formed and baked after the first paste layer is baked to form the baked electrode. The thickness is reduced. Therefore, seizure defects such as cracks, peeling and bubbles due to baking are less likely to occur, and an external electrode with fewer defects can be formed.
Moreover, in the manufacturing method of the electronic component which concerns on this invention, it is preferable that the 1st paste layer and the 2nd paste layer contain Cu as an electroconductive component. Thus, when the external electrode contains Cu as a conductive component, plating for improving solderability at the time of mounting, such as Sn and Ni plating, is performed. In this case, the above-described electronic component manufacturing method is particularly effective, and it is possible to reliably prevent the Sn and Ni plating solution from entering the element body.
In the method for manufacturing an electronic component according to the present invention, the first paste layer preferably has a composition different from that of the second paste layer. In forming the external electrode, the first paste layer is required to have a function of ensuring adhesion with the element body, while the second paste layer is mainly required to have a function of preventing the plating solution from entering the element body. It is done. Therefore, by making the composition of each of the first paste layer and the second paste layer in accordance with the function, it is possible to reliably prevent moisture such as plating solution from entering the element body, and to prevent poor mounting of electronic components. It can be surely prevented.
Moreover, in the manufacturing method of the electronic component which concerns on this invention, it is preferable that the baking temperature in a 1st baking process differs from the baking temperature in a 2nd baking process. In this way, baking can be performed under optimum conditions by changing the baking conditions according to, for example, the composition of the first paste layer and the second paste layer.
Moreover, in the manufacturing method of the electronic component which concerns on this invention, it is preferable to repeat repeatedly the process of screen-printing and drying a 2nd paste layer in a 2nd paste layer formation process. In this way, by repeatedly applying and drying the second paste layer a plurality of times, it is possible to form an optimum external electrode with a more uniform thickness. In addition, since defects generated during screen printing or drying can be filled by subsequent screen printing, external electrodes with fewer defects can be formed.
The electronic component of the present invention is an electronic component manufactured by any one of the electronic component manufacturing methods described above. By manufacturing an electronic component by the above-described method, the external electrode formed on the side surface of the element body that affects the dimensions of the external electrode, particularly the external dimensions of the electronic component, compared to the electronic component manufactured by the conventional manufacturing method And the thickness of the external electrode in the vicinity of the center position of the end face of the element body can be reduced. Thus, the electronic component of the present invention can be formed with a high capacity and a high breakdown voltage while having the same dimensions as those of the conventional electronic component.
ADVANTAGE OF THE INVENTION According to this invention, while preventing moisture, such as plating solution, invading into an element | base_body, the mounting defect of an electronic component and the increase in a product dimension can be prevented, and the reliability of an electronic component can be improved.

As shown in FIG. 1, the

After the element body holding step S2, a first paste layer forming step S3 is performed. As shown in FIG. 2, the first paste layer forming step S3 is performed by immersing the
After the first paste layer forming step S3 is performed, a blotting step S4 is performed. In the first paste layer forming step S3, when the
After the first baking step S5, a second paste layer forming step S6 is performed. FIG. 5 is a diagram showing process contents of the second paste layer forming process S6. In the second paste layer forming step S6, the
Specifically, in the second paste layer forming step S6, as shown in FIG. 5, the
When the second paste layer forming step S6 is completed, a second baking step S7 is performed. In the second baking step S7, for example, heat treatment is performed at 730 ° C., thereby forming the
As described above, in the method of manufacturing the electronic component 1, the
Further, in the formation of the
As described above, in the method for manufacturing an electronic component according to the present invention, the thickness of the
Further, in the conventional manufacturing method, for example, in order to prevent the penetration of moisture such as a plating solution into the element body, an external electrode having a large thickness near the central position is immersed in order to ensure the thickness near the corner portion of the element body. However, according to the method for manufacturing the electronic component 1 according to the present invention, the
The
The
Further, the baking temperature in the first baking step S5 is different from the baking temperature in the second baking step S7. Thus, by changing the baking conditions according to the composition of the
In the second paste layer forming step S6, the step of screen printing and drying the
FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view showing an example of the electronic component 1 after the second paste layer forming step S6 in the method for manufacturing the electronic component 1 according to the embodiment of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 6, in the electronic component 1 manufactured by the manufacturing method according to the embodiment of the present invention, the boundary portion between the
Moreover, in the manufacturing method of the electronic component 1 of the present embodiment, the T dimension and the H dimension that affect the external dimensions of the
EXAMPLES Hereinafter, although this invention is demonstrated further more concretely based on an Example and a comparative example, this invention is not limited to a following example at all.
The present inventors produced an electronic component by the manufacturing method described above. In order to form an external electrode, electrode paste A, electrode paste B, and electrode paste C were prepared as conductive pastes. The electrode paste A is a Cu average particle diameter of 2 μm, a solid content of 70 wt%, a viscosity of 25 Pas, and an ethyl cellulose binder paste. Moreover, the electrode paste B is a Cu average particle diameter of 2 μm, a solid content of 65 wt%, a viscosity of 10 Pas, and an acrylic binder paste. Moreover, the electrode paste C is a Cu average particle diameter of 2 μm, a solid content of 65 wt%, a viscosity of 15 Pas, and an ethyl cellulose binder paste.
(Comparative Example 1)
First, the electrode paste A was applied to the end face side of the element body by a dipping method and baked at a baking temperature of 780 ° C. to obtain Comparative Example 1. At this time, the T dimension of the external electrode was set to 66 μm.
Example 1
Next, the electrode paste A is baked as a first layer electrode to form a baked electrode in the same manner as in Comparative Example 1, and the electrode paste A is applied as a second layer electrode on the baked electrode by screen printing. After drying, baking was performed at a baking temperature of 780 ° C. to obtain Example 1.
(Comparative Example 2)
Subsequently, the electrode paste A was applied to the element body by a dipping method and baked at a baking temperature of 780 ° C. to obtain Comparative Example 2. At this time, the T dimension of the external electrode was set to 61 μm.
(Examples 2 to 4)
Next, the electrode paste A is baked as a first layer electrode to form a baked electrode in the same manner as in Comparative Example 2, and the electrode paste A is applied as a second layer electrode on the baked electrode by screen printing. After drying, baking was performed at a baking temperature of 780 ° C. to obtain Example 2. Further, the second layer electrode paste A was applied by screen printing and dried, and then baked at a baking temperature of 730 ° C. to obtain Example 3. Moreover, after applying electrode paste A to the end face side of the element body as a first layer electrode by a dipping method and baking at a baking temperature of 730 ° C. to form a baking electrode, an electrode paste as a second layer electrode on the baking electrode A was applied by screen printing and dried, and then baked at a baking temperature of 780 ° C. to obtain Example 4.
(Examples 5 and 6)
Subsequently, the electrode paste B was applied to the element body as a first layer electrode by an immersion method, and baked at a baking temperature of 780 ° C. to form a baked electrode, and then the electrode paste C as a second layer electrode on the baked electrode. Example 5 was obtained by applying and drying by screen printing and baking at a baking temperature of 730 ° C. The electrode paste B was set so that the T dimension after baking was 20 μm. Moreover, after applying electrode paste B to the element body as a first layer electrode by a dipping method and baking at a baking temperature of 780 ° C. to form a baking electrode, electrode paste C as a second layer electrode is screened on the baking electrode. The process of applying and drying by printing was repeated twice and then baked at a baking temperature of 730 ° C. to obtain Example 6.
The present invention is not limited to the above embodiment.
