Abstract
Description
本発明は磁気ディスクのクリーニング方法に関し、特にコンピュータの外部記憶装置等として用いられる磁気記録装置(HDD)に用いられる磁気ディスクのクリーニング方法に関する。 The present invention relates to a magnetic disk cleaning method, and more particularly to a magnetic disk cleaning method used in a magnetic recording device (HDD) used as an external storage device of a computer.
一般的なHDD装置においては、磁気ヘッドがスライダーと呼ばれる浮上機構によって、回転している円環形の磁気ディスクの表面上を数nmの浮上距離を保って浮上しながら、データの記録および再生が行われる。 In a general HDD device, a magnetic head records and reproduces data while flying over a surface of a rotating annular magnetic disk with a flying distance of several nanometers by a flying mechanism called a slider. Is called.
磁気ヘッドを磁気ディスク上にロード・アンロードする時、磁気ディスク上に異物(パーティクル)が存在すると、ヘッドの浮上を妨げたり、磁気ヘッドがパーティクルを巻き込むことにより磁気ディスクの表面に塗付されている潤滑剤(ルブ)がスライダーに付着するルブピックアップの原因になり、HDDの安定的な動作が困難になるという問題がある。 When loading or unloading a magnetic head onto or from a magnetic disk, if foreign matter (particles) is present on the magnetic disk, it will be hindered from floating or the magnetic head will be applied to the surface of the magnetic disk by entraining particles. There is a problem that the lubricant (rubb) that is present causes the lub pickup to adhere to the slider, and the stable operation of the HDD becomes difficult.
Therefore, it is necessary to remove the particles on the magnetic disk in advance. However, since the particles are very small in the micron or sub-micron level, it is extremely difficult to remove the particles. In order to achieve this, it has become necessary to mechanically slide the surface of the magnetic disk using some cleaning means. For example, a method for cleaning the surface of a magnetic disk using a burnish head has been proposed. This is a method of preparing a burnish head having many groove-shaped sharp edges on the slider surface and placing it on a rotating magnetic disk to remove particles and the like while sliding between the slider surface and the magnetic disk surface It is. Alternatively, a tape burnishing method has been proposed. In this method, a tape having an appropriate surface property is prepared, the tape is pressed against the surface of the magnetic disk with an elastic roller or the like, the magnetic disk is rotated, and the particles are removed by sliding.
However, when these means are simply used to mechanically slide the surface of the magnetic disk, scratches occur on the surface of the magnetic disk and the recording performance deteriorates, and various countermeasures have been proposed. For example, a method of applying a thick lubricant in advance to the surface of a magnetic disk has been proposed. This is a method of improving the lubricating performance by applying a lubricant having a thickness exceeding the originally required thickness and then performing tape burnishing (see, for example, Patent Document 1). However, in order to improve the lubrication performance, it is necessary to add some additional material such as applying an excessive amount of lubricant to the surface of the magnetic disk, and the step of washing away the excess lubricant after processing such as a tape burnish Therefore, there is a problem that the manufacturing apparatus and the process are complicated.
本発明は上述の問題に鑑みてなされたもので、磁気ディスクの表面を傷つけることなく、磁気ディスク上のパーティクルを効果的に除去する方法を提供することを目的とする。 The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object thereof is to provide a method for effectively removing particles on a magnetic disk without damaging the surface of the magnetic disk.
本発明は、磁気ディスクの表面エネルギーよりも大きな表面エネルギーを有するクリーニング部材を磁気ディスクの表面に接触することで磁気ディスク上のパーティクルを効果的に除去できることを見出したことに基づいてなされたものである。 The present invention has been made based on the finding that particles on a magnetic disk can be effectively removed by bringing a cleaning member having a surface energy larger than the surface energy of the magnetic disk into contact with the surface of the magnetic disk. is there.
More specifically, the present invention is a magnetic disk cleaning method comprising a magnetic recording layer, a protective layer, and a lubricating layer on a nonmagnetic substrate,
a) preparing a cleaning member provided with a cleaning layer on the substrate whose surface energy is 20 mN / m or more higher than the surface energy of the magnetic disk;
b) placing the lubricating layer of the magnetic disk and the cleaning layer of the cleaning member facing each other;
c) a step of leaving it in a mounted state;
d) separating the cleaning member from the magnetic disk;
They are provided in this order.
前記工程c)は、前記磁気ディスクと前記クリーニング部材を圧接しながら放置する工程であることが好ましい。
前記圧接する方法は、前記磁気ディスクと前記クリーニング部材を筺体内に挿入し、該筺体を真空装置で排気し、該筺体の一部が前記磁気ディスクと前記クリーニング部材を押圧する方法であることが特に好ましい。
The step c) is preferably a step of leaving the magnetic disk and the cleaning member in pressure contact.
The pressure contact method is a method in which the magnetic disk and the cleaning member are inserted into a housing, the housing is evacuated by a vacuum device, and a part of the housing presses the magnetic disk and the cleaning member. Particularly preferred.
According to the present invention, by providing a difference in surface energy between the cleaning member and the magnetic disk, particles on the surface of the magnetic disk can be adsorbed to the cleaning member and effectively removed. Furthermore, since it is not necessary to slide the magnetic disk surface with the cleaning member, the magnetic disk surface can be cleaned by removing particles without damaging the magnetic disk surface. Further, since a magnetic disk having a clean surface can be obtained, a stable HDD operation can be obtained by suppressing the lube pickup when the magnetic head is loaded / unloaded.
以下、図面を参照しながら本発明の実施の形態について詳しく説明する。
図1は本発明を実施するために用いるクリーニング装置1のひとつの例を示す断面模式図で、クリーニングを行う磁気ディスク20の上にクリーニング部材10を載置して、下部筐体40に挿入し、上部筐体30をかぶせたものである。下部筐体40もしくは上部筐体30には図示しない真空排気装置が接続され、筐体の内部を減圧することができる。
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.

FIG. 4 is a schematic cross-sectional view for explaining the cleaning process. First, as shown in FIG. 4A, cleaning is performed with the
クリーニング部材10は繰り返して使用できる。即ち、ひとつのクリーニング部材10を用い、磁気ディスク20を交換して図4の工程を繰り返して行うことができる。クリーニング部材10に相当量のパーティクル90が付着して、クリーニング性能が劣化した時点で、クリーニング部材10は交換するが、クリーニング部材10は清浄化することにより再度使用することができる。
The
The
The surface energy of the
The cleaning
Various commonly known methods can be used as means for bringing the cleaning
For the purpose of further improving the adhesion between the cleaning
As the
また、本法は、図1の例に限らず、基板の両面に磁気記録を行う磁気ディスクに対しても適用できることは言うまでもない。
上部筺体30、下部筺体40としては、金属材料等の所望の剛性を有する材料を用いて作成することができる。
Further, it goes without saying that the present method is not limited to the example of FIG.
The

パーティクル個数は光学式表面解析装置OSA6100(KLA Tencor社製)で測定した。

After forming the N—CH layer in the same manner as described above, the N—CH layer was introduced into an etching apparatus NE550 (manufactured by ULVAC), a CF 4 gas was allowed to flow, and an F—N—CH layer was formed by etching.
FIG. 7 shows the result of cleaning performed in the same manner as in Example 1 using each of the cleaning members described above. The horizontal axis in FIG. 7 represents the difference between the surface energy before cleaning of the cleaning
