Description
スペクトラ繊維から、一方向繊維プリプレグの連続ロール(ユニテープ)を2つ作製した。これらのユニテープは、クレイトンD1107スチレン−イソプレン−スチレンブロックコポリマーエラストマーからなるポリマーマトリックス組成物を18重量%含有していた。これらのロールを、米国特許第5,173,138号に記載のクロスプライ機に配置した。プリプレグを0°/90°となるようにクロスプライし、加熱および加圧下で圧密化させて、連続的な2−プライ構造物を作製した。連続ロールをさらに、熱と圧力を加えて、0.35ミル(0.0089mm)厚さの2枚のLLDPEフィルム間に積層し、積層連続ロール(LCR)を作製した。このロールからの材料を、表1においてマテリアルA(SR−3111スペクトラシールド製品)として表示する。
18%のポリマーマトリックス組成物含量を含有する実施例1のLCRのほかに、クレイトンD1107スチレン−イソプレン−スチレンブロックコポリマーエラストマーからなるポリマーマトリックス組成物を11重量%含有する他のLCRを製造した。このロールからの材料を、表1においてマテリアルB(SR−3121スペクトラシールド製品)として表示する。
実施例2の場合と同様に、45.72cm×45.72cmの寸法の14個の2−プライ片をマテリアルAからカットし、45.72cm×45.72cmの寸法の13個の2−プライ片をマテリアルBからカットした。マテリアルBとマテリアルAからの27個全ての試験片を、成形せずに、あるいは該片を相互連結せずに、単一配列にして一緒に積層した。このようにして作製した物品について、NIJ標準0101.04改訂Aに従い、9MMのFMJ弾丸(重量8.04g)に対する弾道試験を実施した(ここではマテリアルAが弾道脅威によって最初に衝撃を受けるように配置した)。弾道試験の結果を表1に示す。
マテリアルBとAからカットした他の組の2−プライ片(45.72cm×45.72cmのサンプルサイズ)について実施例2の手順を繰り返した。弾道試験の結果を表1に示す。
マテリアルAとBからカットした別の一組の2−プライ片(45.72cm×45.72cmのサンプルサイズ)について実施例3の手順を繰り返した。弾道試験の結果を表1に示す。
45.72cm×45.72cmの寸法の28個の2−プライ片をマテリアルBからカットし、成形せずに、あるいは該片を相互連結せずに、一配列にして積層した。このようにして作製した物品について、NIJ標準0101.04改訂Aに従い弾道試験を実施した。弾道試験の結果を表1に示す。同じ面密度を保持しつつマトリックス量の差を補償するために、実施例1と比較して追加的な層を組み込んだ。
1. 単一のシュートパック(shoot pack)(またはフレキシブルベスト)中のポリマーマトリックス組成物の量を変えると、9MMのFMJの弾道脅威に対する弾道抵抗性が増す。
2−プライの2つの連続予備圧密化ロール(PCR)を、実施例1及び実施例2に記載のロールと同様に作製した。(但し、LLDPEフィルムは組み込まなかった。)これら2つのPCRはそれぞれ、20%(表2においてマテリアルCと記す。)と11%(表2においてマテリアルDと記す。)のクレイトン D1107スチレン−イソプレン−スチレンブロックコポリマーエラストマーをポリマーマトリックス組成物として含有する。以下の表に示すように、マテリアル1は、弾道脅威によって最初に衝撃を受けるよう配置されるパネルであり、マテリアル2は、弾道脅威によって2番目に衝撃を受けるよう配置されるパネルである。
30.48cm×30.48cmの寸法の20個の2−プライ片をマテリアルDからカットし、19個の2−プライ片をマテリアルCからカットした。マテリアルDとマテリアルCの2−プライ片を単一配列にして積み重ね、マッチドダイ金型中において、積み重ねた該片を最初に120℃で10分予備加熱することによって、次いで35バールの成形圧力を10分加えることによって成形し、これにより成形パネルを作製した。それぞれの2−パネル片は、0°/90°の繊維配向を有した。成形パネルについて、17グレインの重量を有する発射体をシミュレートした0.22口径の破片を使用し、且つMILL−P−46593A(ORD)に従い、米国軍用規格MIL−STD−662Fによる弾道試験を実施した。弾道試験のV50結果を表2に示す。試験時においては、マテリアルDの側が、飛来する破片に直面した。

30.48cm×30.48cmの寸法の68個の2−プライ片をマテリアルDからカットし、68個の2−プライ片をマテリアルCからカットした。マテリアルDとマテリアルCの2−プライシートを単一配列にして積み重ね、マッチドダイ金型中において、積み重ねた該片を最初に120℃で25分予備加熱することによって、次いで35バールの成形圧力を10分加えることによって成形し、これにより成形パネルを作製した。それぞれの2−パネル片は、0°/90°の繊維配向を有した。成形パネルについて、高性能ライフル銃の米軍M80ボール銃弾(重量9.65g)を使用し、且つ米国軍用規格MIL−STD−662Fに従い、弾道試験を実施した。試験時においては、マテリアルDの側が、飛来するM80ボール銃弾に直面した。2つの同一成形パネルを試験してV50を算出した。弾道試験のV50結果を表3に示す。

30.48cm×30.48cmの寸法の145個の2−プライ片をマテリアルDからカットし、一配列にして積み重ね、マッチドダイ金型中において、積み重ねた該片を最初に120℃で25分予備加熱することによって、次いで35バールの成形圧力を10分加えることによって成形し、これにより成形パネルを作製した。それぞれの2−パネル片は、0°/90°の繊維配向を有した。成形パネルについて、高性能ライフル銃の米軍M80ボール銃弾(147グレイン;重量9.525g)を使用し、且つ米国軍用規格MIL−STD−662Fに従い、弾道試験を実施した。2つの同一成形パネルを試験してV50を算出した。弾道試験のV50結果を表3に示す。
実施例13と比較して、比較的同程度の面密度を保持しつつマトリックス量の差を補償するために、追加的な層を組み込んだ。
Claims (20)
- a)複数の繊維層を含む第1のパネル、ここで前記複数の繊維層が圧密化されており、各繊維層が複数の繊維を含み、前記繊維が約7g/デニール以上のテナシティと約150g/デニール以上の引張モジュラスを有し、前記繊維のそれぞれが表面を有し、そして前記繊維の表面がポリマー組成物でコーティングされている;および
b)第1のパネルとは異なっていて複数の繊維層を含む、第1のパネルに貼り合わせられた第2のパネル、ここで前記複数の繊維層が圧密化されており、各繊維層が複数の繊維を含み、前記繊維が約7g/デニール以上のテナシティと約150g/デニール以上の引張モジュラスを有し、前記繊維のそれぞれが表面を有し、そして前記繊維の表面がポリマー組成物でコーティングされている;
を順々に含む弾道抵抗性材料であって、
c)前記第1のパネルが、第2のパネルの総重量を基準としたときの前記第2のパネル中のポリマー組成物の重量%と比較して、第1のパネルの総重量を基準としてより大きい重量%のポリマー組成物を第1のパネル中に含有することを特徴とする、前記弾道抵抗性材料。 - 不織繊維を含む複数の繊維層を含む少なくとも1つのパネルを含む、請求項1に記載の弾道抵抗性材料。
- 織繊維を含む複数の繊維層を含む少なくとも1つのパネルを含む、請求項1に記載の弾道抵抗性材料。
- 複数の繊維層を含む少なくとも1つの追加パネルを含み、前記複数の繊維層が圧密化されており、各繊維層が複数の繊維を含み、前記繊維が約7g/デニール以上のテナシティと約150g/デニール以上の引張モジュラスを有し、前記繊維のそれぞれが表面を有し、そして前記繊維の表面がポリマー組成物でコーティングされている、請求項1に記載の弾道抵抗性材料。
- 相互連結された一連の弾道抵抗性パネルを含み、ここで前記一連の弾道抵抗性パネル中の連続パネルのそれぞれが、各パネルの総重量を基準として、連結される前記一連の弾道抵抗性パネル中の前のパネルより低い重量%のポリマー組成物を含有する、請求項4に記載の弾道抵抗性材料。
- モノリシック構造物を含み、前記モノリシック構造物が、前記第1のパネルと前記第2のパネルの両方を組み込んでいる、請求項1に記載の弾道抵抗性材料。
- 各パネルのポリマー組成物含量が、各パネルの総重量を基準として約1重量%〜約35重量%の範囲である、請求項1に記載の弾道抵抗性材料。
- 各パネルが独立して、ポリオレフィン繊維、アラミド繊維、ポリベンザゾール繊維、ポリビニルアルコール繊維、ポリアミド繊維、ポリエチレンテレフタレート繊維、ポリエチレンナフタレート繊維、ポリアクリロニトリル繊維、液晶コポリエステル繊維、ガラス繊維、炭素繊維、剛性ロッド繊維、またはこれら組み合わせ物の1種以上を含む、請求項1に記載の弾道抵抗性材料。
- 各パネルがポリエチレン繊維を含む、請求項1に記載の弾道抵抗性材料。
- 各パネルが外側表面を有し、少なくとも1つのポリマーフィルムが、少なくとも1つのパネルの少なくとも1つの外側表面に貼り合わせられている、請求項1に記載の弾道抵抗性材料。

b)第1のパネルとは異なった少なくとも1つの追加弾道抵抗性パネルを前記第1のパネルに貼り合わせて、これにより一連の相互連結弾道抵抗性パネルを作製すること、ここで少なくとも1つの追加パネルが複数の繊維層を含み、前記複数の繊維層が圧密化されており、各繊維層が複数の繊維を含み、前記繊維が約7g/デニール以上のテナシティと約150g/デニール以上の引張モジュラスを有し、前記繊維のそれぞれが表面を有し、そして前記繊維の表面がポリマー組成物でコーティングされている;
を含む一連の弾道抵抗性パネルを含む弾道抵抗性材料の作製方法であって、ここで、前記第1のパネルが、少なくとも1つの追加的な弾道抵抗性パネルの総重量を基準としたときの少なくとも1つの追加的弾道抵抗性パネル中のポリマー組成物の重量%と比較して、第1のパネルの総重量を基準としてより大きい重量%のポリマー組成物を第1のパネル中に含有することを特徴とする前記方法。 - 一連のパネル中の連続パネルのそれぞれが、各パネルの総重量を基準として、連結されている前記一連のパネル中の前のパネルより低い重量%のポリマー組成物を含有する、請求項13に記載の作製方法。
