Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a fault display circuit that displays the occurrence of a fault by turning on an LED, an information processing apparatus having the fault display circuit, and a fault display method that shows the operation of the fault display circuit. The present invention relates to a fault display circuit, an information processing apparatus, and a fault display method for detecting that a fault has occurred in a component and displaying the fault.
BMC(Baseboard
An information processing apparatus represented by a personal computer or the like is provided with a failure display circuit for notifying a user that a failure has occurred.
As shown in FIG. 3, the fault display circuit receives a sensor information from each component (not shown) and determines whether the component is normal or abnormal.
Management Controller) 110 and a failure display LED (LED) 120 that is turned on in response to an error LED lighting signal when it is determined that there is an abnormal component in the BMC 110.
Thus, when an abnormality occurs in the component, the
However, some components stop outputting sensor information when the power is turned off. Then, even if an abnormality occurred in the component, the LED did not light after the power was turned off, and the user (maintenance staff) could not know the abnormality.
Therefore, a technique has been proposed in which the LED is continuously lit even after the power is turned off.
For example, a technique has been proposed that includes a register circuit that sequentially turns on a plurality of LEDs based on a signal from a control unit, and a secondary battery that supplies power to the LEDs after power is turned off (see, for example, Patent Document 1). .)
According to this, since power can be supplied from the secondary battery, the LED can be continuously lit even after the power is turned off. Thus, the user (maintenance staff) can know that a failure has occurred before the power is turned off even after the power is turned off.
According to this, it can be easily determined from the lighting state of the LED that the supply of power to the main circuit has been stopped (the transition to the standby mode normally).
However, in the techniques described in Patent Documents 1 and 2, the LED (display unit) is continuously turned on for a device whose sensor output stops both when the AC power is turned off and when the DC power is turned off. I couldn't.
Normally, an information processing apparatus is equipped with, for example, a FAN or HDD as components. Since these operate with a DC power supply instead of an AC power supply, output of sensor information stops when the DC power supply is cut off.
Specifically, for example, the FAN sensor monitors the number of rotations by BMC, but when the DC power supply is cut off, the rotation is zero and output of sensor information is also stopped. For this reason, the BMC cannot determine whether the FAN has failed after the DC power is turned off.
The HDD sensor identifies abnormality / normality as a result of the disk access, but when the DC power supply is cut off, disk access disappears and abnormality / normality cannot be identified.
As described above, sensor signals from each component, such as HDD and FAN, often cannot obtain sensor information indicating abnormality when the power is turned off (the BMC recognizes it as normal).
Therefore, in the case of FAN, HDD failure, etc., if the power is turned off, the BMC cannot hold the failure information, and it is difficult to check the failure location even if the maintenance staff rushes to the site.
That is, although the information processing apparatus includes components that stop outputting sensor information when the DC power supply is cut off, even if the techniques described in Patent Documents 1 and 2 are used, the occurrence of abnormality in those components , Could not grasp after power off.
The present invention is considered in view of the above circumstances, and in an information processing apparatus provided with a component that stops outputting sensor information when the DC power supply is cut off, the LED is continuously lit even when the DC power supply is cut off. It is an object of the present invention to provide a failure display circuit, an information processing apparatus, and a failure display method that can be easily confirmed by a maintenance staff.
In order to achieve this object, the fault display circuit of the present invention is a fault display circuit comprising fault detection means for determining whether or not an abnormality has occurred in a monitored device, and fault display means for displaying that an abnormality has occurred. The failure detection means includes a failure occurrence signal holding means for receiving a signal indicating the occurrence of an abnormality from the failure detection means, and holding the value of the abnormality occurrence signal. When an abnormality of the monitoring target device cannot be detected, the failure display means displays that an abnormality has occurred based on the value of the abnormality occurrence signal held by the abnormality occurrence signal holding means.
The information processing apparatus according to the present invention is an information processing apparatus including a failure display circuit that displays that an abnormality has occurred in a monitoring target device, and the failure display circuit includes claims 1 to 1 of the claims. The fault display circuit according to any one of Items 7 is included.
Further, the failure display method of the present invention is a failure display method for determining whether or not an abnormality has occurred in the monitoring target device and displaying the occurrence of the abnormality. When a signal indicating the occurrence of the abnormality is input, Holds the value of the signal and displays that an abnormality has occurred based on the value of the held abnormality occurrence signal when the abnormality of the monitored apparatus cannot be detected by turning off the power of the monitored apparatus There is a way.
According to the failure display circuit, the information processing apparatus, and the failure display method of the present invention, the abnormality occurrence signal holding unit holds the value of the abnormality occurrence signal and, after power-off, based on the value of the held abnormality occurrence signal. Since the failure display means is configured to operate, the LED can be continuously lit even when the power is turned off. This facilitates the confirmation of the failure location by maintenance personnel.
Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of a fault display circuit, an information processing apparatus, and a fault display method according to the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
First, an embodiment of the fault display circuit, information processing apparatus, and fault display method of the present invention will be described with reference to FIG.
This figure is a block diagram showing the configuration of the fault display circuit of this embodiment.
As shown in the figure, the fault display circuit 10 of this embodiment includes a BMC 11, a fault display LED (LED) 12, a standby power supply 13, a capacitor (secondary battery) 14, and a
The BMC (failure detection means) 11 collects sensor information from each component (monitoring target device, not shown) of the information processing apparatus, and determines normality / abnormality of the component based on the information. As a result of the determination, when it is determined that there is an abnormal component, an error LED lighting signal (abnormality generation signal) indicating an abnormality is sent to the
A component refers to a part constituting the information processing apparatus. This component includes, for example, a component such as FAN or HDD that cannot determine a failure unless DC power is supplied and cannot output sensor information indicating that an abnormality has occurred.
In the present embodiment, components are listed as examples of monitoring target devices. However, monitoring target devices are not limited to components, and include devices and devices that can output sensor information indicating whether or not an abnormality has occurred.
In the present embodiment, the information processing apparatus is an apparatus or device having components (component parts) such as FAN and HDD, specifically, for example, a personal computer, a server, a blade system, an image forming apparatus (printer, Copy machines, facsimiles, multifunction devices, etc.).
(DC-ON/AC-ON),(DC-OFF/AC-ON),(DC-OFF/AC-OFF)などがある。
このため、DC電源がOFFでAC電源がONの場合は想定されるが、AC電源がOFFになれば、DC電源もOFFになる。
Further, the BMC 11 generates a signal (power supply information) indicating the current power supply state (DC-ON / DC-OFF / AC-OFF), and outputs the signal to the
Examples of the power state indicated by the power information include (DC-ON / AC-ON), (DC-OFF / AC-ON), and (DC-OFF / AC-OFF).
The DC power source is created by rectifying the AC power source. For this reason, it is assumed that the DC power source is OFF and the AC power source is ON. However, when the AC power source is OFF, the DC power source is also OFF.
The LED (failure display means) 12 is normally turned off, and lights or blinks when receiving a logic circuit output signal indicating lighting (abnormality). Thereby, it is displayed (notified) that an abnormality has occurred in any of the components at the present time (the past after the DC power supply is cut off).
The standby power supply 13 supplies power to the
The capacitor (secondary battery) 14 supplies power to the
When receiving an error LED lighting signal from the BMC 11, the logic circuit (register circuit, abnormality occurrence signal holding means) 15 holds the value indicated by the error LED lighting signal. Then, a logic circuit output signal (output signal) based on the value of the error LED lighting signal is sent to the
For example, in the AC-ON state and the DC-ON state, the value of the error LED lighting signal sent from the BMC 11 is output to the
If the power status changes to DC-OFF due to a failure, the value of the error LED lighting signal immediately before the DC-OFF status (the value of the last error LED lighting signal in the DC-ON status) , Retained after transition to DC-OFF state. The power supply information is used as a trigger signal for holding the error LED lighting signal.
According to such a configuration, even when there is a component in which failure information from the sensor cannot be acquired by the BMC 11 in the DC-OFF state, the value of the error LED lighting signal is held in the
(Failure display method)
Next, the operation (fault display method) of the fault display circuit of this embodiment will be described with reference to FIG.
This figure is a waveform diagram showing changes in signals transmitted and received by the fault display circuit and changes in lighting / extinguishing of LEDs.
(AC-ON/DC-ON状態)
(AC-ON / DC-ON state)
First, the failure display method in the AC-ON / DC-ON state (normal time) will be described.
As shown in the figure, since the power supply state is normal, the power supply information is output from the
The sensor information is output from the component to the
The error LED lighting signal is output from the

The
(When transitioning to AC-ON / DC-OFF state)
Next, a description will be given of a failure display method in the case where the DC power supply has dropped due to some trouble and the AC-ON / DC-ON state (normal time) shifts to the AC-ON / DC-OFF state.
As shown in FIG. 2, the power supply information is switched from “H” to “L” when shifting to the AC-ON / DC-OFF state ((i) in FIG. 2).
Sensor information is output from the component, but components (devices) that cannot acquire information when the DC power is turned off, such as FAN and HDD, The value of information falls from “H” to “L” ((ii) in the figure).
The error LED lighting signal is output from the
The logic circuit output signal is output from the
(After transition to AC-ON / DC-OFF state)
Next, a failure display method after shifting to the AC-ON / DC-OFF state will be described.
As shown in FIG. 2, the power supply information is output in the “L” state because the DC power supply is OFF ((i) in FIG. 2).
The sensor information is output in the “L” state ((ii) in the figure). This is because a component such as FAN cannot acquire information by disconnecting the DC power supply. For this reason, even if an abnormality occurs in the component and the DC-OFF state is entered, the sensor information is output in the “L” state.
The error LED lighting signal is output in the “L” state in the same manner as the sensor information ((iii) in the figure).
The logic circuit output signal is output in this held state because the value of the last error LED lighting signal in the DC-ON state is held when the
The
As described above, according to the fault display circuit, the information processing apparatus, and the fault display method of the present embodiment, the logic circuit (register circuit) for holding information is combined with the fault display LED, and the power is turned off. In order to enable continuous display, the failure display LED can be continuously lit even after the DC power is turned off by supplying power from a standby power source or a battery (capacitor or battery).
For example, in the logic circuit, after the DC power supply is turned off (DC-OFF / AC-OFF), the new error LED lighting signal from the BMC is ignored and the last signal value immediately before the power supply is turned off is held. In addition, a standby power supply, a backup capacitor or a battery is connected to the logic circuit. As described above, by using the register circuit, the standby power supply, or the backup battery, the failure display LED after the power is turned off can be continuously lit.
Furthermore, by turning on the LED continuously even after the power is turned off, it is easy for maintenance personnel to check the failure location, and human error can be reduced.
For example, in the case where a lot of devices such as servers are arranged in the same room, when an alarm report indicating the occurrence of a failure is transmitted from the BMC to the maintenance staff via the LAN, the maintenance staff rushes to the room for maintenance. Here, if each server is equipped with the failure display circuit of the present invention, the maintenance staff can find out the failed device at a glance.
However, if the fault display circuit of the present invention is not installed, it is impossible to distinguish between a device that has failed and the DC power is turned off, and a device that has been turned off intentionally. It is conceivable that a device that has lost the value is mistakenly maintained.
Therefore, by installing the failure display circuit of the present invention in a device such as a server, a failed device can be found immediately, and human error can be reduced.
LCD(Liquid
Crystal Display)
The preferred embodiments of the fault display circuit, information processing apparatus, and fault display method of the present invention have been described above. However, the fault display circuit, information processing apparatus, and fault display method according to the present invention are limited to the above-described embodiments. It goes without saying that various modifications can be made within the scope of the present invention.
For example, in the above-described embodiment, the LED is shown as the failure display unit. However, the failure display unit is not limited to the LED. For example, the LCD (Liquid
Crystal Display) can also be used.
Since the present invention relates to a circuit that displays an abnormality that has occurred in a component of an information processing apparatus, the present invention can be used in an apparatus or device that includes a circuit that displays the occurrence of an abnormality.
