タッチパネル付きの表示装置２０にメインメニューを表示し、該メインメニューより「リスト」を選択し、その後、「曲追加」をタッチ選択してプレイリストへの曲追加モードにする(ステップ２０１)。かかる状態において制御装置１９は表示装置２０に登録されている全プレイリスト名を表示し、ユーザは曲を追加すべきプレイリストを選択し(ステップ２０２)、制御装置１９は該選択されたプレイリストの更新日を取得する(ステップ２０３)。
ついで、プレイリストに追加する楽曲の検索方法(アルバム検索、アーチスト検索、ジャンル検索の別)及びアルバム名あるいはアーチスト名あるいはジャンル名を入力する(ステップステップ２０４)。なお、必ずしも検索方法を入力する必要はない。
以上の入力が終了すると、制御装置１９は、ステップ２０３で取得したプレイリストの更新日より以降にハードディスクに１５に記録した楽曲を対象に、ステップ２０４で特定された検索方法に基づいて楽曲を検索し、検索された楽曲も楽曲情報のリストを表示装置２０にスクロール可能に表示する(ステップ２０５)。
これにより、ユーザは表示されている楽曲情報のリストからプレイリストに追加する楽曲を選択し、制御装置１９は該選択された楽曲の楽曲情報を内蔵のワークメモリに保存する(ステップ２０６)。ついで、ユーザはプレイリストへの楽曲の追加を完了するか判断し(ステップ２０７)、更に追加すべき楽曲が存在すればステップ２０５に戻ってプレイリストに登録する楽曲を選択する。
プレイリストに追加する楽曲を全て選択すれば、タッチパネル上の登録キー(ソフトキー)を操作する（ステップ２０８）。制御装置１９は登録キーが操作されると、選択されてワークメモリに記憶されている楽曲情報をステップ２０２で選択されたプレイリストに追加し、該プレイリストの更新日を書き換えてプレイリスト記憶部２１に保存する(ステップ２０９)。以後、ユーザがタッチパネル上の完了キーを操作すれば(ステップ２１０)、プレイリストへの曲追加処理は終了する。
なお、以上では更新日を基準にして追加対象の楽曲(楽曲ファイル)を決定したが、更新日時を基準にして追加対象の楽曲ファイルを決定することができる。
以上、本実施例によれば簡単な操作で、プレイリストの最新の更新日あるいは更新日時以降に記録媒体に取り込んだ楽曲ファイル（データファイル）の中から所望のデータファイルを選択してプレイリストに追加することができる。

図８は図７の再生装置のプレイリストの説明図であり、プレイリストは、 (1) プレイリスト名、(2)プレイリスト作成日あるいは最終更新日、(3)再生順に並べられた楽曲特定情報で構成され、楽曲特定情報は、更にアルバム名、アーティスト名、ジャンル名、曲名、メモリの種別(ハードディスクHDDと外部記憶装置の別)、楽曲データを記憶する場所を示すポインタを含んでいる。
図９は図７の再生装置のプレイリストへの曲追加処理フローであり、図６と同一処理ステップには同一ステップ番号を付している。異なる点は、曲検索方法を入力した後に(ステップ２０４の処理後)、プレイリストに追加する楽曲が記憶されている記憶媒体を変更するか判断するステップ３０１、及び記録媒体の変更を指示する変更指示するステップ３０２が設けられている点である。なお、初期値として、ハードディスク１５に記録されている楽曲ファイルがプレイリストへの追加対象ファイルとなっている。したがって、プレイリストへの追加対象ファイルを外部記憶装置に変更するには、ステップ３０２で変更指示してステップ２０５以降の処理を行う。
