Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a liquid crystal device and an electronic apparatus.
In the field of portable electronic devices such as mobile phones and watches, the adoption of reflective liquid crystal devices or transflective liquid crystal devices that can reduce power consumption by using external light is advancing. In such a liquid crystal device, there is a technique for reducing the size by using a reflective polarizer for a reflective layer that reflects external light (see, for example, Patent Document 1 or 2). The reflective polarizer is formed on one substrate, and for each pixel arranged in the display region, the external light incident through the other substrate is reflected toward the one substrate, thereby displaying an image. it's shown.
When such a liquid crystal device is a color liquid crystal device, it is common to use a color filter capable of enhancing light in a predetermined wavelength range from outside light. Here, in a transmissive liquid crystal device, a type in which a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between one substrate on which a switching element is formed and the other substrate on which a color filter is formed is common. Therefore, in the reflective or transflective liquid crystal device, the reflective polarizer is formed on the substrate together with either the switching element for controlling the pixel or the color filter.
However, in the case of a reflective polarizer using a metal such as Al (aluminum), there has been a problem that the polarizing ability can be lowered due to damage in the step of forming the switching element or the color filter.
SUMMARY An advantage of some aspects of the invention is to solve at least a part of the problems described above, and the invention can be implemented as the following forms or application examples.

(First embodiment)
Hereinafter, a liquid crystal device according to a first embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. In the drawings shown below, the dimensions and ratios of the components are appropriately different from the actual ones in order to make the components large enough to be recognized on the drawings.
スイッチング素子としてはTFT(薄膜トランジスタ)を用いている。 In the liquid crystal device of this embodiment, an electric field (transverse electric field) in the horizontal direction with respect to the substrate is applied to the liquid crystal layer, and the alignment direction of liquid crystal molecules (hereinafter simply referred to as “liquid crystal molecules”) contained in the liquid crystal layer. This is a transflective liquid crystal device using a method called an IPS method among horizontal electric field methods for controlling the above. A TFT (thin film transistor) is used as the switching element.

Here, in order to prevent the held image signal from leaking, the
Note that the liquid crystal device according to the present embodiment and the liquid crystal devices according to the second to fifth embodiments described later enable color display using the color filter 70 (see FIG. 3). Therefore, in the
FIG. 2 is a schematic plan view of a pixel of the liquid crystal device of the present embodiment. As described above, the liquid crystal device of the present embodiment displays an image by controlling the amount of reflection of external light in a bright place, and in the dark place by an internal light source (backlight) as in a normal transmissive liquid crystal device. This is a transflective liquid crystal device that displays an image. Therefore, both the
The pixel mainly includes a
The
The
Note that the
The planar shape of the
Similar to the
The strip portion of the
The region where the electric field is generated is a region where an image is formed by controlling the amount of reflected light or transmitted light. In the above region, the upper half (the far side from the contact hole 66) with the

Next, the configuration in the cross-sectional direction of the pixel of the liquid crystal device of this embodiment will be described. FIG. 3 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing a cross section taken along line A-A ′ of FIG. 2 together with the
The liquid crystal device according to the present embodiment holds the

The n + silicon layer 64 is formed in a region where the
A
The

A
Preferably, unevenness may be formed in the lower layer of the
Here, the
The
In the
When the
The liquid crystal device of this embodiment forms an image using light emitted from the
The liquid crystal device of the present embodiment is arranged so that the
The liquid crystal device of the present embodiment functions as an IPS liquid crystal device with such a configuration. By applying an image signal (voltage) to the
As described above, the
When an electric field formed between the
In the
On the other hand, if the
In the
At this time, if the
The reflected light incident on the
On the other hand, if the
As described above, in the
As described above, in the liquid crystal device according to the present embodiment, the
A conventional liquid crystal device is generally of a type in which a color filter is formed on a counter substrate. In this type, the
When the
On the other hand, in the type in which the
In any of the above types, a process of patterning a certain film layer on the

(Second Embodiment)
FIG. 6 is a schematic cross-sectional view of the liquid crystal device according to the second embodiment. This is an IPS transflective liquid crystal device similar to the liquid crystal device according to the first embodiment. Therefore, the same code | symbol is provided to the common component and description of description is abbreviate | omitted. The circuit configuration is the same as that of the liquid crystal device according to the first embodiment shown in FIG. 1, and the planar aspects of the components are the same as those of the liquid crystal device according to the first embodiment shown in FIG. Omitted.
The liquid crystal device of this embodiment is different from the liquid crystal device according to the first embodiment in that the
As described above, since the liquid crystal device according to the present embodiment is a transflective type, the
The configuration of the
The components from the
As described above, in the liquid crystal device according to the first embodiment, the
On the other hand, in the liquid crystal device of the present embodiment, the thickness of the
In the liquid crystal device of this embodiment, the
In the liquid crystal device according to the present embodiment, the
In addition, similarly to the liquid crystal device according to the first embodiment, an unevenness may be formed by using a transparent photosensitive resin or the like in the lower layer of the
(Third embodiment)
FIG. 7 is a schematic plan view of a pixel of the liquid crystal device according to the third embodiment. The liquid crystal device of this embodiment is a transflective liquid crystal device using a vertical electric field method. Therefore, the
In the liquid crystal device of this embodiment, the
FIG. 8 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing a cross section taken along line B-B ′ of FIG. 7 together with the
In the
Unlike the liquid crystal devices according to the first and second embodiments, the liquid crystal device of the present embodiment has a rubbing direction of the
In the
In the
The liquid crystal device according to this embodiment is characterized in that it employs a vertical electric field method and a
In addition, similarly to the liquid crystal device according to the first embodiment, an unevenness may be formed by using a transparent photosensitive resin or the like in the lower layer of the
(Fourth embodiment)
FIG. 9 is a schematic cross-sectional view of the liquid crystal device according to the fourth embodiment. FIG. 8 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing a cross section at the same position as the cross section taken along line B-B ′ of FIG. The liquid crystal device of this embodiment is a transflective liquid crystal device using a vertical electric field method similar to that of the liquid crystal device according to the third embodiment. The circuit configuration is the same as that of the liquid crystal device according to the first embodiment shown in FIG. 1, and the planar aspects of the constituent elements are the same as those of the liquid crystal device according to the third embodiment shown in FIG. Therefore, a circuit diagram and a plan view are omitted. The common constituent elements are given the same reference numerals, and descriptions thereof are omitted.
The liquid crystal device according to this embodiment is characterized in that the
Since silicon oxide has a refractive index smaller than that of ITO, the sensitization effect can be obtained by such a structure, and the reflectance of the
When the
In the liquid crystal device of the present embodiment, the first

The liquid crystal device of this modification is a transflective liquid crystal device driven by the IPS system, and the circuit configuration is the same as that of the liquid crystal device according to the first embodiment shown in FIG.
