An image forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording medium,
An image carrier for carrying a latent image of the image;
A laser scanner that scans the image carrier with a laser beam corresponding to the image and forms the latent image;
Correction means for correcting image distortion caused by the curvature of the scanning line formed by the laser beam;
Control means for controlling not to perform correction by the correction means when forming a pattern for adjusting the writing position of the image at least in a direction orthogonal to the scanning direction of the laser beam ;
An image forming apparatus comprising: The correction means changes the image signal of the image based on the curvature of the scanning line so as to obtain an image signal curved in a direction opposite to the bending direction of the scanning line. An adjustment step of adjusting a writing position in a direction orthogonal to the scanning direction of the laser beam based on the pattern read in the reading step;
In the forming step, the pattern is formed without performing correction by the correction means .
