Abstract

【課題】 所望のユーザ・グループが互いに安全な環境において交流することができ、ユーザが互いの共有関係において共有するファイルにアクセスし、それに関する制御を維持するグループ交流を容易にする方法およびシステムを提供する。

Description

本発明は、コンピュータ・ネットワーク上における通信および双方向処理に関する。更に特定すれば、本発明は、２つ以上の規定した通信エンティティのグループ間において双方向処理およびデータ可用性を促進するために、ソーシャル・ネットワーク・ユーザ・インターフェースを規定するシステムおよび方法を対象とする。
インターネットおよびその他のネットワークの普及は、種々の双方向処理およびタスクが物理的世界からディジタル世界へ移動する原因となった。例えば、文書やファイルは、過去においては長年、物理的なコピーをグループ内の別のメンバに分与することによって共有してきたが、今日では電子的に処理し、ネットワークを通じてディジタル的に送信する。このようなグループのメンバ間の交換では、種々のグループ・メンバによるアクセスに対して、特にグループが互いに協調する(collaborate)場合、ある程度の制御を維持することが重要である。
ディジタル時代の到来により、物理的世界からディジタル世界に強く移動しなかった１つの活動が、グループ交流となった。現在の日常生活では、定期的に人と交流し、ソーシャル・グループを形成して、このソーシャル・グループによって徐々に種々の活動に関与する。しかしながら、いずれのソーシャル・グループ内部においても、情報がグループのメンバ全員で共有されなかったり、秘密に保持される場合さえもある。ソーシャル・グループにおける誰もが、各メンバについても知っており、これらのグループは時と共に成長し変化する。今日の日常生活に存在するこのメタファ(metaphor)は、ディジタル世界には移行していない。
今日、離れた者同士の間のディジタル通信には多数のメカニズムやフォーラムが存在するが、これらの中には、使用の普及につながり得る、説得力のある解決策を提供するものがない。既存の通信メカニズムは、現在では、直感的で簡単に使えるユーザ・インターフェースを提供することができない。例えば、これらの技術は、真のグループ空間を提供して、その中でグループ・メンバが、他のグループ・メンバは出席しているか否か容易に知ることができたり、共有ファイルにアクセスしたり、別のグループ活動に従事することができるようにはなっていない。逆に、既存の技術の多くは、グループおよびその活動や通信ではなく、ゲームまたはファイル共有というような、１つの活動または試みに絞る傾向がある。他の技術には、グループ・チャットを可能にするものもあるが、グループの真の意味を有しておらず、グループ・チャットを行おうとする毎にグループを設定する必要があり、次の活動の際に再度手作業でグループを設定することなく、純粋なチャット以外の活動にグループを変遷させるメカニズムを提供するものではない。

本発明は、グラフィカル・インターフェースを通じてユーザにソーシャル・ネットワークを呈示する方法およびシステムを対象とする。本発明は、ソーシャル・ネットワーク内部におけるグループ交流を容易にするために、ネットワーク・トポロジを跨いで実施することができるソーシャル・ネットワークに伴うグループ活動を呈示する。
本発明は、ユーザが管理タスクおよび項目を活性化することができるように、ソーシャル・ネットワークを視覚的に呈示するシステムおよび方法を提供する。このような行為は、とりわけ、ネットワーク内部におけるグループ活動に関して実行する種々の動作を含む。ソーシャル・ネットワークを作成すると、他のユーザは、グループ活動に関する通知にアクセスすることおよび／または受信することができ、交流セッションへの加入、または共有データ・ファイル上での協調というようなその他のソーシャル交流を行うことができる。これによって、グループ活動に利用可能なユーザ動作の明確な方向(sense)を規定し、これによりグループ空間の使い易さを創出する。
ブラウザ・インターフェースの使用により、ソーシャル・ネットワーク内部の項目を素早くしかも効率的に管理することができる。このように、他のアプリケーションは、ユーザが規定したソーシャル・ネットワーク内部のコンテンツに容易にアクセスすることができる。
概略的には、本発明は、グループにおいて規定したメンバ間における安全な交流を可能にする共有ソーシャル・ネットワークに関する。一形態において、本発明は、エントリ・ポイントを他のアプリケーションに晒すユーザ・インターフェースを提供し、数ある中でもとりわけ、即座のテキスト、音声および／またはオーディオ・ビジュアル通信、共有ファイル・システムの動作、グループ・メンバまたは活動のステータスの変化の通知を可能にする。本発明は、ソーシャル・ネットワーク内部における関係の形成および維持に関する機能性の強化を可能にする。
本発明の実施形態について、コンピュータ・ネットワークを通じて通信する多数の個々のユーザを備えるソーシャル・ネットワークまたは共有空間に関して説明する。通例、このようなユーザは、ソーシャル環境または共有ネットワーク環境においてソーシャル・ネットワークを形成することができる。しかしながら、本発明はそのように限定されるのではない。逆に、ソーシャル・ネットワークまたは共有空間は、ホーム・ネットワークのような、デバイス空間(device space)を意味することもできる。また、ソーシャル・ネットワークまたは共有空間は、多数のデバイスおよび／または場所から共有データ、リソース、またはその他の項目へのアクセスを可能にするためにソーシャル・ネットワーク（または共有空間）を規定する個々のユーザのような、個人的空間を意味する場合もある。
本発明を実用化するためには必須ではないが、計算デバイスが実行するプログラム・モジュールまたはオブジェクトのような、コンピュータ実行可能命令によって実施するものとして、本発明の説明を行う。一般に、プログラム・モジュールまたはオブジェクトは、ルーチン、プログラム、コンポーネント、データ構造等として実施することができ、特定のタスクを実行するか、または特定の抽象データ・タイプを実現する。
本発明は、種々の計算デバイス・コンフィギュレーションにおいて実施することができる。例えば、本発明は、ハンドヘルド・デバイス、移動電話機、マルチプロセッサ・システム、マイクロプロセッサに基づくまたはプログラマブル消費者用電子製品、ネットワークＰＣ、ミニコンピュータ、メインフレーム・コンピュータ等、装着可能な計算または通信デバイス、ならびに視覚的表示および他のデバイスとの直接的または間接的な通信の双方が可能であればその他のデバイスのいずれにおいても実現することができる。また、本発明は、分散計算環境においても実用化することができ、この場合、通信ネットワークを通じてリンクされているリモート処理デバイスによってタスクを実行する。分散計算環境では、プログラム・モジュールを、ローカルおよびリモート・メモリ記憶デバイス双方に配置してもよい。したがって、本発明は、先に示唆したような多くの種類の計算環境に組み込むことが好ましいことは言外である。本発明が動作することができる計算環境の例が、２００３年１０月２４日に特許商標庁に提出した特許出願第１０／６９２，５０１号（"System And Method For File Sharing In Peer-To-Peer Group Shared Spaces"（ピア・ツー・ピア共有空間におけるファイル共有システムおよび方法と題する）、および第１０／６９３，２２８（"Group Shared Spaces"（グループ共有空間）と題する）の双方に記載されている。これらは、ここで引用したことにより、その内容が本願にも含まれるものとする。
以下に続く説明では、特記しない限り、１つ以上の計算デバイスによって実行するアクト(act)および動作の象徴的表現を参照しながら本発明について説明する。このようなアクトおよび動作は、コンピュータによって実行すると言い、構造化形態のデータを表す電気信号の、計算デバイスの演算ユニットによる操作を含む。この操作は、データを変換し、またはそれを計算デバイスのメモリ・システム内の場所に維持し、当業者には良くわかっているやり方で、計算デバイスの設定変更を行うか、あるいはその動作を変更する。データ構造とは、メモリの物理的な場所であり、データのフォーマットによって特定のプロパティ(properties)を規定する。しかしながら、以上のような文脈で本発明について説明していくが、限定を意味するのではない。ここに記載する種々のアクトおよび動作は、ハードウェアでも実施可能であることは当業者には認められよう。
図１は、本発明の実施形態を実施することができるネットワーク環境の模式図である。即ち、複数のユーザ計算デバイス１０２、１０４、１０６、および１０８が示されており、ネットワーク１１０を通じて通信可能にリンクされている。各ユーザ・デバイスは、異なるユーザによって用いられるか、または連携されているのが通例である。このようにリンクされているユーザ・デバイスの正確な数は、本発明には重要ではないが、ネットワーク通信は少なくとも２人のユーザを伴うのが通例である。更に、ネットワーク１１０の種類は重要ではないが、２台以上のユーザ・マシン間で直接的または間接的に情報の交換を可能にするピア・ツー・ピア・ネットワークとするとよい。ユーザ・マシン１０２、１０４、１０６、１０８は地理的に互いに離れていてもよいが、本発明は、グループが協調している(collaborating)場合にも有用であり、勿論、会議室内等でも行うことができる。
本発明の実施形態の図示の環境において用いられる１台以上のユーザ・マシンは、先に引用した出願に記載されている計算デバイスのように実施するが、本発明にはそのような内在的な限定はない。加えてまたは代わりに、本発明は、装着可能な通信デバイス、セル・フォン、およびＰＤＡを含むがこれらに限定されない、多数のその他の種類の通信デバイスのいずれとでも使用可能である。
本発明によれば、ソーシャル・ネットワークは、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースを通じて呈示され、既存のオペレーティング・システムのユーザ・インターフェースの機構の視覚(look)および感覚(feel)を有する。例えば、本発明は、ブラウザのウィンドウを用いて、ユーザが所属する１つまたは複数のソーシャル・ネットワークをブラウズできるようにしてもよい。一実施形態では、本発明を実施する際に、ウィンドウのソーシャル空間部分に、ソーシャル・ネットワークのアイコン表現を呈示する。ブラウザは、ソーシャル・ネットワーク内に常駐するデータに関して、種々のアプリケーションおよびその他の項目にアクセスできるようにする。
グループ・メンバ間の交流および通信を容易にするために、本発明の実施形態は、大多数のアプリケーションおよび／またはシナリオを分散環境において配信することができる、既存のオペレーティング・システムのインフラストラクチャを利用する。このようなインフラストラクチャは、限定ではなく、分散接続性、名前解決、効率的な多点通信および協調、安全なグループおよび分散データ管理を含む機能性を提供することができる。これは当業者には認められることであろう。
多くの方法で行うことができるが、本発明の一実施形態は、以下で更に詳しく説明する、種々の協調オブジェクトを含む協調アーキテクチャの一部として実施する。これらの協調オブジェクトは、概略的に、ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて種々のエレメントを規定する。好適な実施形態では、これらはプレゼンテーション・レイヤに含まれ、規定されたアプリケーション・プログラミング・インターフェースを通じて、しかるべき協調サービスおよび制御にアクセスする。
好ましくは、プレゼンテーション・レイヤは、協調制御のフレームワークを介して露出される制御にアクセスする。一例として、フレームワークは、リアル・タイム通信制御を含むことができ、この制御は、インスタント・メッセージングまたはテキスト活動、音声通信活動およびビデオ通信活動のような、時間に厳しい活動へのアクセスを与える。他の制御は、協調的編集および作成、ならびにその他の共有活動を可能にする。好適な実施形態では、インフラストラクチャ・レイヤが、１つ以上の規定されたインターフェースを介してアクセス可能な協調サービスに対する抽象概念を与える。例えば、アプリケーションおよびメンバが、どの活動に他のメンバが関与することができるか交渉し、活動を開始し、アクセスし、および／または同期するための構造化メカニズムを提供することを許容するインターフェースを規定することができる。加えて、種々のトランスポート・インターフェースおよび接続性サービスへのインターフェースが、単一または多数共同通信チャネルのいずれかを通じて、通信を可能にする。
オペレーティング・システム、または少なくともオペレーティング・システム動作の直観的延長(intuitive extension)の一部として含むことができる、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースのプレゼンテーションおよび制御によって、ソーシャル・ネットワーク・エクスプローラ(social network explorer)を表す。実世界と全く同じように、ソーシャル・ネットワークは、１つ以上のエンティティ間において関係を形成するために作成する。同じエンティティが作成または使用するソーシャル・ネットワークは、ソーシャル空間を規定する１つのシェル・フォルダ内に表示することが好ましい。ブラウザは、ソーシャル・ネットワークと調和して利用することができるアプリケーションおよびその他の項目のためにエントリ・ポイントを提供する。
図示の実施形態では、ソーシャル・ネットワークにおけるメンバによってアクセス可能な種々の活動を、活動オブジェクトとして実現する。情報活動オブジェクトは、特定のソーシャル・ネットワーク内で行われている現行の永続的活動および一過性活動の概要を呈示する。永続的活動オブジェクトは、関連するデータと共に活動を呈示する。このデータは、時と共に変化せず、ソーシャル・ネットワークにおけるメンバに関連がある。一過性活動オブジェクトは、所与の時点で行われている活動および関連するデータを呈示する。
実世界におけるソーシャル・ネットワーク内の交流は同期および非同期双方であるので、活動も同様に同期および非同期交流もサポートするとよい。例えば、交流の中には、一人の個人が関与するだけの場合や、個人の存在が他のメンバには明示されない場合を伴うこともあり得る。
本発明の実施形態によるユーザ・インターフェース・プレゼンテーション全体を図２に示す。"My Social Networks"（私のソーシャル・ネットワーク）ブラウザ・ウィンドウ２０２の画面表示は、ソーシャル・ネットワークにアクセスすること、ソーシャル・ネットワークを作成し管理することが容易にできるように設計されている多数のエレメントの１つ以上を備えている。ブラウザ・ウィンドウ２０２は、フォルダ・エリア２０４のような種々のセクションを備えた直感的なレイアウトを有し、その中に１つ以上のソーシャル・ネットワークが常駐する。加えて、ウィンドウ２０２は、ユーザが選択可能な所要のアクションのリスト２０８を呈示する上位セクション２０６を含む。
一例として、フォルダ２０４はユーザに使用可能なソーシャル・ネットワークを識別する１つ以上の項目を呈示する。この場合、"College Friends"（学友）アイコン２１０が、ユーザの一人以上の学友を含む、規定済みのソーシャル・ネットワークと関連付けられているソーシャル空間へのリンクを提供する。ユーザが作成した他のソーシャル・ネットワークに対応する他のアイコンも、フォルダ空間２０４内に収容されている。
フォルダ空間２０４は、"Other Contact Places"（他の連絡場所）リスト２１２のような別のセクションも有する。リスト２１２は、フォルダ表示エリア２０４内に呈示したソーシャル・ネットワークに関連するデータを含む。また、"Filter By"（・・・によるフィルタ）メニュー２１４によって、ユーザは種々の探索基準に基づいてソーシャル・ネットワークの項目を探索することができる。
ある特定のユーザは、彼または彼女が属するグループを１つよりも多く有することができ、グループの各メンバは、一人以上の別のメンバが属していない１つまたは複数のグループに属することもできる。つまり、関連するソーシャル・ネットワーク２１０はグループのメンバ毎に現れ、各マシーン上で同一に見えるが、他のグループのメンバとは共有されていない、アイコン２１０に対応するソーシャル空間の部分があってもよい。
一実施形態では、ウィンドウ・シェル上に表示することができるような、サイド・バー・ユーザ・インターフェース内に、ソーシャル・ネットワーク・ステータスをユーザに提供する。図３は、ソーシャル・ネットワークのステータスに関する情報を呈示するためのサイド・バー３０２の実現例の一つを示す。ユーザの指先において情報のハブを表すために、サイド・バー３０２はソーシャル・ネットワーク・バー部３０４を含む。ソーシャル・ネットワーク・バー部３０４は、サイド・バー３０２と共に用いられる共通ダイアログを通じてアクセス可能であることが好ましい。図示の実施形態では、１つ以上のユーザ選択可能なアイコン３０６、３０８が、関連するソーシャル・ネットワークのステータスに関する情報を呈示する。例えば、８人のグループ・メンバの内３人が現在"College Friends"ネットワークにおいてアクティブになっており、一方６人のグループ・メンバの内一人が"Soccer Buds"（サッカー仲間）ネットワークにおいてアクティブになっている。また、ユーザがアイコン上方で操作する(hover)と、ソーシャル・ネットワークにおいてアクティブなメンバの存在を示すことができる。このように、ソーシャル・ネットワークの活動およびステータスに関する情報は、以下に述べるように、図２に示すブラウザ・ウィンドウまたはソーシャル空間にナビゲートすることなく、ユーザに都合良く現れる。
サイド・バー３０２に与えられる面積(real estate)が限られているために、全てではなくても殆どの場合、ソーシャル・ネットワークをユーザに所与の時点で呈示することができる。呈示するソーシャル・ネットワークの数を制限するために、本発明は、どのソーシャル・ネットワークを示すかを表示するためのユーザ・コンフィギュレーションを許容することができる。あるいはまたは加えて、本システムは、所与の１組の判断基準に基づいて、ソーシャル・ネットワークを示すためにインテリジェント・フィルタを設けることができる。つまり、サイド・バー３０２に呈示するネットワークのリストは、ユーザ設定のように静的であることも、アクティブ・フィルタに基づいて動的であることも可能である。例えば、活動に基づいてその他のソーシャル・ネットワーク・アイコンを動的に変化させる一方で、ユーザは利用可能なソーシャル・ネットワークの部分集合をサイド・バー部３０４に「張り付ける」(pin)ことができる。
活動の変化、またはソーシャル・ネットワークにおけるその他のステータス変化に関する情報を提供するために、好適な実施形態の１つの機構は、種々の通知をユーザに呈示する。例えば、ユーザは、新たなメンバが所与のソーシャル・ネットワークにオンラインで到来すると、通知を受信することができる。このような通知は、ユーザがソーシャル・ネットワークにおける活動に関与しているときにのみ呈示することもできる。あるいは、通知は、ユーザが彼または彼女の計算デバイスを動作させているときはいつでも呈示することができる。
図４Ａから図４Ｃは、通知の例を示す。図４Ａにおいて、画面表示は、ステータスまたはその他のアクションの変化に関する情報を提供する通知４０２を含む、通知メッセージ・ボックス４００を呈示している。この場合、通知は、"College Friends"グループにおけるグループ・メンバがチャット・セッションを開始したことを示す。また、通知メッセージ・ボックス４００は、ユーザがグループ・チャット・セッションに加入できるようにするインスタント・メッセージング・アプリケーションのような、アプリケーションをインスタンス化するためのエントリ・ポイント４０４も含む。加えて、メッセージ・ボックス４００は、この通知に関係する特定のソーシャル・ネットワークのアイコン表現４０６も含む。他のアクションに関する情報を提供する拡大可能選択肢メニュー４０８のような、その他の情報項目もメッセージ・ボックスに含ませることができる。
図４Ｂは、活動ステータスの他の種類の変化の通知４１２、即ち、他のグループ・メンバがビデオ・ゲームをプレーし始めたことの通知４１２を含むメッセージ・ボックス４１０を示す。この例では、エントリ・ポイント４１４は、ユーザがその活性化によってゲームに加入することを可能にする。アイコン表現４１６および選択肢メニュー４１８は、図４Ａにおけると同一である。同様に、図４Ｃは、ソーシャル・ネットワークに利用可能な項目の追加の通知４２２を有するメッセージ・ボックス４２０を示す。この例では、"College Friends" メンバの一人が、新しい写真を追加した。既に述べた通知の場合と同様、メッセージ・ボックス４２０は、新しいコンテンツにアクセスするためのエントリ・ポイント４２４、ソーシャル・ネットワークのアイコン表現４２６、および選択肢メニュー４２８のような、その他の情報項目も任意に含む。
図５および図６は、ソーシャル空間ウィンドウの画面表示例を示す。図５では、ソーシャル空間５００は、特定のソーシャル・ネットワークに関連する項目の総計データ・ビューを提供する。このように、ソーシャル空間５００は、ソーシャル・ネットワーク内部における活動に関する情報への瞬時的なアクセスを提供する。
好適な実施形態では、ソーシャル空間５００のレイアウトはセクションに分割されており、セクションは構成パーツを有する。第１セクション５０２はグループの最新の活動およびステータスの変更の全体像を表示する。ソーシャル・ネットワークに関連する活動オブジェクトが提供する情報を得ることによって、全体像セクション５０２は、ソーシャル・ネットワークにおける最新の変化の全体的な方向を決める(create)。全体像セクション５０２は、ユーザがソーシャル・スペースを連携する際に補助する情報を提供するメタ情報サブセクション５０４を含む。
最新の活動およびステータス情報を提供するために、全体像セクション５０２において総計され表示される活動オブジェクトは、主に一過性の活動オブジェクトである。例えば、最新活動サブセクション５０５は、ソーシャル・ネットワークに関して発生した新しい活動の素早い全体像を与える。最新の活動は、ソーシャル空間に関して発生するイベントによって決定する。最新活動サブセクション５０５は、ソーシャル・ネットワークにおけるその他のパーツおよび活動に対する更新に従い、開始した３つの最新活動を、参加するメンバ、またはソーシャル空間のパーツに対する最新の更新と共に表示する。
全体像セクション５０２におけるその他の機構には、受信した新しいメッセージに関する情報を提供するメッセージ・ボード５０６が含まれる。加えて、メッセージ・ボード５０６は、ユーザがメッセージを視認することができるように、関連する電子メール・アプリケーション・プログラムの起動点を提供する。更に、全体像セクション５０２は、現在のグループ・メンバおよびそのそれぞれのステータスの動的なリストを提供するメンバまたは存在(Presence)サブセクション５０８も表示する。
ソーシャル空間５００は、永続的活動オブジェクトを呈示することができるキャンバスを提供するパーツ・セクション５１０を含む。セクション５１０に含まれる「パーツ」は、ユーザがパーツ・セクション５１０上で配列、サイズ変更、および位置付けすることができる微小ウィンドウとして実装する。例えば、ユーザは、微小ウィンドウの角または縁を、マウス、スタイラス、またはその他のユーザ入力デバイスによって選択し移動させることができる。「パーツ」は、関連する共有アプリケーションまたはファイル・システムの項目の集合体の上位全体像およびそのエントリ・ポイントを提供する。図示の実施形態では、「パーツ」はユーザによって最大化（目視可能な「パーツ」エリア全体にパーツを表示する）または最小化（パーツのタイトル・バーにのみパーツを表示する）することができる。図示のように、ソーシャル・カレンダ更新パーツ５１２は、ユーザが指定した時間量に対してグループのカレンダのカスタム化した微小ウィンドウを呈示する。図示の実施形態では、種々のカレンダ・エントリに対して以下の情報を表示する。約束の日、約束の時間、約束の名称、および約束の場所。
パーツ・セクション５１０のプレゼンテーションに含まれる別のグラフィカル・ウィンドウに最新追加ファイル・パーツ５１４がある。このパーツ５１４は、表示されているエントリに関連する共有ファイルへのエントリ・ポイントと共に、最近追加したファイルの図を呈示する。一実施形態では、最新追加ファイル・パーツ５１４は永続的とすることができ、以下の情報を含む。ファイル名、ファイル・タイプ、所有者またはファイルを追加した個人、およびファイルを追加した日付。勿論、代わりに、フォト・アルバム活動オブジェクトのような、カスタム化可能なファイル経歴(experience)においてプレゼンテーションを実施することもできる。
図５に示すセクション５１０に表示されている更に別のパーツに、種々のリスト更新パーツ５１６および５１８がある。好ましくは、ユーザに呈示する情報のリストは、カスタム化可能でかつ拡大可能とする。つまり、リスト更新パーツは、変化したリストのみを表示するように構成することができる。これによって、ユーザは関連するリストにナビゲートしあらゆる変更を視認することが可能になる。これらのリストは、グラフィカル・エレメントおよび制御エレメント双方を有することもできる。即ち、前述のその他のパーツと同様、パーツ５１６および５１８は当該パーツに関連するアプリケーションおよび／またはデータへのエントリ・ポイントを提供する。
共有空間５００に示す別のセクションに起動セクション５２０がある。起動セクション５２０は、ユーザが共有空間５００のメンバと共に活動を開始することを可能にする。起動セクション５２０は、最近用いた活動を既定数だけ表示する活動起動エリア５２２を含む。つまり、ユーザが起動エリア５２２における項目をクリックするかその他の方法で活性化すると、他のアクティブなユーザに招待状が自動的に送られ、活動の参加に彼らを招待する。また、起動セクション５２０は、最近使用したリストを既定数だけ表示するリスト表出エリア５２４も呈示する。ユーザがリスト表出エリア５２４においてあるエントリを活性化すると、関連するリストがユーザのために表出する。図５に示すグラフィカルおよび制御エレメントのプレゼンテーションは、図示した共有空間５００に合わせた表現となっているが、本発明から逸脱することなく、レイアウトおよび情報項目は変更および／または拡張可能であることは、当業者には認められよう。
図６は図５と同様であり、ソーシャル空間６００のレイアウトを示す。しかしながら、図６では、あるユーザ・インターフェース・エレメントが、テキスト・ビューではなく、「ピクチャ」ビューで呈示されている。図５に示した画面表示の場合と同様、ソーシャル空間６００のレイアウトはセクションに分割されている。第１全体像セクション６０２は、グループの最新の活動およびステータス変化の全体像を示す。全体像セクション６０２は、関連するグループの映像を含むメタ情報サブセクション６０４を有する。図５の実施形態の場合と同様、全体像セクション６０２は、最新活動サブセクション６０５およびメッセージ・ボード・サブセクション６０６も表示する。同様に、全体像セクションは、存在サブセクション６０８も表示し、この場合、グループ・メンバの映像ビューを表示する。
ソーシャル空間６００は、カスタム化可能な「パーツ」セクション６１０も含む。図示の実施形態では、ソーシャル・カレンダ更新パーツ６１２が、ユーザが指定した時間量に対するグループのカレンダの図をユーザに呈示する。パーツ・セクション６１０に含まれるその他のグラフィカル・エレメントには、最新追加ファイル・パーツ６１４、ならびにリスト６１６および６１８のグラフィカル・プレゼンテーションが含まれる。これらのパーツは、図５に示すパーツ・セクション５１０と比較して、記録される。また、これらは、ユーザが識別し易いように、絵画的エレメントおよびグラフィック・エレメントも含む。最後に、起動セクション６２０は、活動起動エリア６２２およびリスト表出エリア６２４を提供する。
図７は、図６に示した存在サブセクションを更に詳しく示す。図示のように、存在サブセクション７００はグループ・メンバの現在のステータスに関する情報を提供する。テキスト・リスト・ビューで呈示してもよいが、サブセクション７００はピクチャ・ビューで示されている。存在サブセクション７００は、ユーザと関連付けられたユーザ・タイル７０２と、ユーザが彼または彼女の存在をグループに設定することを可能にするメニュー７０４とを含む。このように、空間毎に、ユーザが存在を確定することができる。一旦確定したなら、ユーザ・ステータスは、ユーザについての関連する人物オブジェクト内にある「存在」リストに伝搬する。したがって、存在情報は、他のグループ・メンバに伝達される人物からの「存在」オブジェクトを通じて得られる。このような情報を総計し、ユーザ・タイルを通じてグループ・メンバに伝達する。図示のピクチャ・ビューでは、グループ・メンバが存在する場合、彼または彼女のタイルが、グループ・メンバ・タイル７０６によって示されるように、完全に目視可能となる。一方、メンバがいない場合、グループ・メンバ・タイル７０８によって示されるように、グループ・メンバ・タイルは半透明で示される。
図８は、起動セクション８００を更に詳細に示す。先に説明したように、起動セクション８００は、ユーザが他の会員との活動を起動することを可能にする。起動セクション８００は、最近用いられた活動を既定数だけ表示し、関連するエントリ・ポイントを提供する活動起動エリア８０２を含む。リスト表出エリア８０４は、ユーザが選択すると活性化することができる、最近用いられたリストを既定数だけ表示する。
図９は、パーツ・セクション９００を更に詳しく示す。先に説明したように、セクション９００の構成パーツは、所望通りに移動したり、サイズを変更したり、またはそれ以外の設定を変更することができる。共有カレンダ・パーツ９０２は、ユーザが指定した時間量に対するグループのカレンダの図をユーザに呈示する。パーツ・セクション９００に含まれるその他のグラフィカル・エレメントには、最新追加ファイル・パーツ９０４、ならびにリストのグラフィカル・プレゼンテーション９０６および９０８が含まれる。これらのパーツの各々は、参照番号９１０で示すように、「その他」(more) 選択肢を含むことが好ましい。「その他」選択肢を活性化すると、パーツ９０２が最大化され、パーツ・セクション９００内にある協調パーツ・アプリケーション全体を表示する。あるいは、この例では共有カレンダ表出警戒(Outlook)のような、関連するアプリケーションを開始する。
以上、ソーシャル・スペースのグラフィカル・インターフェースの種々のパーツの詳細について説明したが、共有空間のカスタム化の詳細についてこれより説明する。図１０に示すように、ソーシャル・スペースのカスタム化において補助するために、ユーザにダイアログ・ボックス１０００を呈示することができる。図示のダイアログは、"Customize View"（ビューのカスタム化）リンク（図５および図６にそれぞれ示すエレメント５２６および６２６）を選択することによって表出させることができる。ダイアログ・ボックス１０００は、関連する空間を識別するソーシャル空間タイルまたはテキスト情報を含む。加えて、ダイアログ・ボックス１００は、現在用いられているソーシャル空間パーツのリスト１００４、および利用可能なパーツのリスト１００６も呈示する。殆どの場合、然るべきコンフィギュレーション動作を通じて関連するパーツをインポートすることによって、「ドラッグ・アンド・ドロップ」動作により新しいパーツをパーツ・セクションに移動させることができる。図示の実施形態では、ダイアログ・ボックス１０００は、高度選択肢リスト１００８も呈示する。高度選択肢リスト１００８は、ユーザがクエリ・ビルダ(query builder)からカスタム・リスト・パーツを作成すること、またはシステムがアクセス可能なリストからパーツをインポートすることを可能にするために用いることができる。このように、ソーシャル空間のパーツ・セクションは、ユーザの好みにしたがってカスタム化することができる。
このように、本発明は、実世界のシナリオにしたがって、グループ・メンバ間の交流を可能にする。例えば、あるユーザが彼または彼女の子供の大量の写真およびかなりのビデオを撮影する場合がある。このようなコンテンツ、特にビデオ・コンテンツを共有することは特に難しいので、ユーザは単にファミリ・ソーシャル・ネットワークを作成し、ユーザはこれらおよびその他ファイルを彼または彼女の親類と交換するために用いればよい。加えて、ユーザは、いずれの所与の時刻にでも共有カレンダ情報にアクセスし、他のグループ・メンバ、即ち、この例では家族の計画を決定することもできる。また、ユーザは、グループにおける変更または更新の通知を受信することを選択することもできる。
別の実世界の例では、ユーザは、彼女の業務チームの数人のメンバおよび彼女が取引で知り合った数人のパートナーとの会合の予定を組むことがある。彼女は会合の参加者と何らかの情報を共有することを計画しているので、ユーザは会合のためにグループ・ソーシャル・ネットワークを作成し、彼女に「近い」人物のリストを用いて、彼女のチーム・メンバおよびパートナーをグループに加入する。また、ユーザはソーシャル・ネットワークに、所望に応じて、プレゼンテーションやその他の題材もソーシャル・ネットワークに予め集めておくこともできる。出席者が会合に到着し、会合の準備のために彼らの計算システムの電源を入れると、ソーシャル・ネットワークが作成されていることが通知され、このソーシャル・ネットワークに加入し、文書にアクセスする。加えて、このような出席者は会合に関する題材を容易に追加することができる。会合が終了したときに、ユーザおよび／またはその他の出席者は、ソーシャル・ネットワークを削除するか、または進行中の協調のためにそれを維持することもできる。例えば、作業空間ツールを用いることによって、ユーザはグループ設定において生成した文書の検討プロセスを開始し、他のグループ・メンバからのフィードバックを組み込んで、最終的な文書の草案を容易する。この例では販売要員のような、その他のチーム・メンバは、最終的な文書の草案の通知を受信し処理するために構成された共有空間を有することができる。
先に記したように、本発明は、コンピュータ・ネットワークを通じて互いに交流する複数のグループ・メンバを含むソーシャル・ネットワークに限定されるのではない。例えば、ユーザは、デバイス間でのデータ・アクセスを可能にするためのデバイス空間としてソーシャル・ネットワークを規定することができる。即ち、共有空間は、ホーム・ネットワークにおけるように、異なる計算デバイス間における交流を提供するために用いることもできる。共有空間のトポロジ独立性のため、ユーザは、代わりに、ソーシャル・ネットワークを個人的空間として規定し、異なる計算デバイスおよび／または場所から共有データ、リソースまたはその他の項目へのアクセスを可能にすることもできる。この例では、ソーシャル・ネットワークは、ネットワーク・トポロジが変化しても、一定のままである。
グループ空間では種々の活動が生ずる可能性がある。このような活動は、ファイルの共有、テキストおよび／またはオーディオ・ビジュアルによるチャット、ゲーム、ホワイト・ボード、メッセージ・ボード、コンテンツ配布、ソフトウェアの配布、およびパッチ(patch)を含むことができる。実際、本発明は、例えば、天気予報、ＤＮＡのマッピングのような複雑な生物学的問題、天体過程の分析、または基礎的研究作業のためのグループ・コンテンツ内での探索のような、複雑な実世界問題を解決するために一緒に作業するというような、分散計算タスクを実行するために用いることができる。あるいは、本発明は、単に、他の家族に新しい活動を知らせ続けるために用いることもできる。
以上、ネットワークを通じたグループ交流のための新規なアプリケーション・アーキテクチャおよびインターフェースについて説明したことは認められよう。本発明の原理を適用することができる多くの可能な実施形態に鑑み、図面に関してここに記載した実施形態は、例示であり、発明の範囲を限定するように捕らえてはならないことは認められて当然である。例えば、発明の要旨から逸脱することなく、具体的なソフトウェア実現例において示した例示の実施形態の要素は、多くの異なる方法で実施することができ、図示の実施形態は構成および詳細を変更することができることは当業者には認められよう。また、本発明は、主に、パーソナル・コンピュータならびにそれと関連するディスプレイおよびデスクトップを参照しながら説明した。しかしながら、本発明はＰＣや従前のデスクトップを必要とする訳ではない。即ち、本発明は、視覚表示機能をサポートする他のデバイス上でも実施することができる。したがって、ここに記載する発明は、特許請求の範囲およびその均等物に該当するような実施形態全てを想定するものである。
図１は、本発明の一実施形態における通信用ネットワーク環境の一例を示す模式図である。 図２は、本発明の実施形態によるソーシャル・ネットワーク・ブラウザ・ウィンドウの表示画面である。 図３は、本発明の実施形態による所与の１組の判断基準にしたがってフィルタ処理したグループ情報の外観を与えるソーシャル・ネットワーク・サイドバー・ユーザ・インターフェース・エレメントの表示画面である。 図４は、本発明の実施形態によるソーシャル・ネットワーク環境において走るアプリケーションが提供する種々の通知の表示画面上での表現を示す。 図５は、本発明の実施形態によるソーシャル・ネットワーク表示ウィンドウの表示画面上での表現である。 図６は、ソーシャル・ネットワーク表示画面の別の表示画面上での表現である。 図７は、図６の表示ウィンドウのプレゼンス・セクションの表示画面上での表現である。 図８は、図６の表示ウィンドウの起動セクションの表示画面上での表現である。 図９は、図６の表示ウィンドウのパーツ・セクションの表示画面上での表現である。 図１０は、本発明の実施形態にしたがって、パーツまたはその他の項目を作成する、またはこれらをソーシャル・ネットワークに追加するためのツール・メニュー・ダイアログの表示画面上での表現である。

Claims (21)

  1. ソーシャル・ネットワークと関連し、該ソーシャル・ネットワークにおいて規定されたメンバ間における交流を可能にするグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースであって、
    前記メンバの少なくとも一人がアクセスすることができるソーシャル空間の外観を呈示する第１表示エリアと、
    前記第１表示エリア内に位置し、前記ソーシャル・ネットワークと関連する少なくとも１つの活動を開始するためのユーザ選択可能なエントリ・ポイントを提供し、前記活動に関してある動作を活性化する少なくとも１つの活動オブジェクトと、
    前記メンバによってアクセスすることができる少なくとも１つの活動に関するステータス情報を含む第２表示エリアと、
    を備えた、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  2. 請求項１記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて、前記エントリ・ポイントは、前記少なくとも１つの活動に関連するアプリケーションを起動するために活性化することができる、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  3. 請求項２記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて、前記少なくとも１つの活動は、前記ソーシャル・ネットワークにおける少なくとも一人の他のメンバとの同期交流である、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  4. 請求項２記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて、前記少なくとも１つの活動は、前記ソーシャル・ネットワークにおける少なくとも一人の他のメンバとの非同期交流である、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  5. 請求項４記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースであって、更に、前記第１表示エリア内に位置する複数の活動オブジェクトを備えて、前記複数の活動オブジェクトに関連する複数の活動を開始するためのユーザ選択可能なエントリ・ポイントを提供する、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  6. 請求項１記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて、前記第２表示エリアは、前記ソーシャル・ネットワークにおける少なくともあるメンバのステータスの通知を提供する、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  7. 請求項６記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースであって、更に、選択可能なグループ活動のリストを提供する第３表示エリアを備えており、該リストにおけるエントリの各々は、当該エントリに関連する活動を開始するためのユーザ選択可能なエントリ・ポイントを含む、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  8. 請求項１記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて、前記ソーシャル・ネットワークにおける少なくとも一人の他のメンバに、前記少なくとも１つの活動オブジェクトの選択に関して実行される動作の結果を自動的に示す、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  9. 請求項１記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて、前記ソーシャル・ネットワークにおける前記メンバは、コンピュータ・ネットワークを通じて互いに接続された計算デバイスのユーザを含む、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  10. 請求項１記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて、前記ソーシャル空間はデバイス空間を含む、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  11. 請求項１記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて、前記ソーシャル空間は、多数のデバイスまたは多数の場所からのリソースへのアクセスを可能にする個人空間を含む、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  12. グループの第１オンライン・メンバと、当該グループの少なくとも一人の別のオンライン・メンバとの間におけるコンピュータ・ネットワークを通じたグループ交流を容易にするために作成された１つ以上のソーシャル・ネットワーク間におけるナビゲーションを可能にするグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースであって、
    ブラウザ・ウィンドウと、
    前記ブラウザ・ウィンドウ内に位置し、ユーザが所属するソーシャル・ネットワークを識別する少なくとも１つの視認可能な存在インディケータのためのドロップ・ターゲットとして作用するフォルダ表示エリアであって、前記存在インディケータが、前記ソーシャル・ネットワークと関連のあるソーシャル空間へのリンクを提供する、フォルダ表示エリアと、
    を備えた、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  13. 請求項１２記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースであって、更に、前記ブラウザ・ウィンドウ内に位置する前記ソーシャル・ネットワークと関連した活動に対するエントリ・ポイントのアイコン表現を含み、前記少なくとも１つの活動と関連したアプリケーションを起動するために、前記エントリ・ポイントを活性化することができる、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  14. 請求項１３記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて、前記少なくとも１つの活動は、少なくとも一人の他のグループ・メンバとの同期交流である、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  15. 請求項１３記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースにおいて、前記少なくとも１つの活動は、少なくとも一人の他のグループ・メンバとの非同期交流である、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  16. 請求項１２記載のグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースであって、更に、複数の視認可能な存在インディケータを備えており、該存在インディケータの各々は、ユーザが所属するそれぞれのソーシャル・ネットワークを識別し、当該それぞれのソーシャル・ネットワークと関連したソーシャル空間へのリンクを提供する、グラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェース。
  17. ディスプレイとユーザ・インターフェース選択デバイスとを含むグラフィカル・ユーザ・インターフェースを有するコンピュータ・システムにおいて、表示エリア上において規定されたグループのソーシャル空間を表示する方法であって、
    （ａ）第１表示エリアに、前記グループがアクセスすることができる少なくとも１つの活動に関するステータス情報を呈示するステップと、
    （ｂ）第２表示エリアに、前記グループによってアクセス可能な複数の活動オブジェクトを呈示するステップであって、前記活動オブジェクトの各々は、当該活動オブジェクトと関連したアプリケーションへのエントリ・ポイントを含む、ステップと、
    （ｃ）前記ユーザ・インターフェース選択デバイスを通じてユーザによる選択を受けたときに、前記第２表示エリア内にある活動オブジェクトの１つのサイズを変更するステップと、
    を備えた、方法。
  18. 請求項１７記載の方法において、前記方法は、更に、
    （ｄ）第３表示エリアにおいて、複数の活動オブジェクトをリストで呈示するステップ、
    を備えており、前記活動オブジェクトの各々は、当該活動オブジェクトと関連したアプリケーションへのエントリ・ポイントを含む、方法。
  19. 請求項１８記載の方法において、前記活動オブジェクトの１つは、前記グループと関連し、最近追加された項目に関する情報を提供する、方法。
  20. 請求項１７記載の方法において、前記ソーシャル空間はデバイス空間を含む、方法。
  21. 請求項１７記載の方法において、前記ソーシャル空間は、多数のデバイスまたは多数の場所からのリソースへのアクセスを可能にする個人空間を含む、方法。
