図2においてはバンパー3の厚みを部分的に薄くして凹部を設け図1に示すものと同様のユニモルフ振動子を有底筒状ケース2とバンパー3をエポキシ接着剤などを用いて接合、固定する。バンパー凹部の厚みtは0.1mm以上あればよく、望ましくは0.2mmから0.5mmの範囲とするのがよい。
図3は本発明の請求項3の実施の形態に関わる超音波送受波器の概略縦断面図である。
図3において、バンパ3に折り返し電極を有する圧電素子1を直接貼り合わせ、ユニモルフ振動子を構成する。圧電素子の外周部を覆うように筒状ケース7をバンパー3にエポキシ接着剤などを用いて接合、固定する。圧電素子の電極9aおよび9bから入出力リード5aおよび5bをそれぞれ半田付け等によって取り出す。圧電素子1の上面に発泡シリコーン等から成る吸音材4を載置し、筒状ケース2の背面開口部から自己接着性を有するシリコーンまたはウレタンなどから成る封止剤7を筒状ケース2内部に充填する。
