Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a near-field optical head, and more particularly to a near-field optical head in which a near-field microscope technique is applied to a head of a recording apparatus represented by a hard disk or the like.
In a near-field microscope equipped with an optical probe that uses near-field light, a sample can be observed with a high resolution that exceeds the diffraction limit of light. In such a near-field microscope, as a sample facing end of the optical probe, a minute opening provided at a sharpened optical fiber tip or a minute opening provided on a chip on a silicon substrate formed by anisotropic etching is provided. Used, or a sharpened tip of an optical fiber or a minute protrusion formed by the chip.
On the other hand, a near-field optical memory as disclosed in, for example, (E. Betzig et al., Science 257, 189 (1992)) using such an observation principle has also been proposed.
In such an application example, it is necessary to bring a minute opening or minute projection formed in the recording or reading head close to or in contact with the surface of the recording medium below the wavelength of irradiation light as propagating light.
What is proposed as a mechanism for bringing the head and the recording medium close to each other is, for example, different from the silicon substrate as shown in (44th Applied Physics Related Conference Lecture Proceedings 28p-ZG-3). Like a flying head used in a hard disk drive, a head in which a minute opening is formed by isotropic etching is floated by a film of air pushed between the head and the recording medium by rotating the recording medium. Bring it close to the recording medium.
However, in the above general flying head system, the film of air pushed between the head and the recording medium is thick, the distance between the bottom surface of the head and the recording medium surface is several tens to several hundreds of nanometers, and near-field light is used. This is a distance that is too large for efficient recording / reading with high resolution. In this case, the near-field light intensity decreases exponentially as the distance from the microscopic aperture increases, so the near-field light intensity is small because the head and the recording medium are separated, and sufficient signal intensity cannot be obtained. Furthermore, there is a problem that it is difficult to realize a higher resolution.
In addition, the distance between the light emitting element or light receiving element placed on the top surface of the head and the minute opening on the bottom surface of the head is equal to the thickness of the slider. Since it attenuates in proportion to the square of, there is a problem that sufficient signal intensity cannot be obtained. When a light receiving element is used, sufficient signal intensity cannot be obtained unless the light receiving part is made large. There was a problem.
In addition, since the slider surface is in contact with the recording medium while the head is at rest, the adsorption of the slider and the recording medium is strengthened by the water adsorbed on the recording medium surface, and the slider and the recording medium are damaged at the start of head operation. There was a problem. Conventionally, in order to avoid this problem, a mechanism for moving the slider in the direction perpendicular to the recording medium is required, which is an obstacle to downsizing the head.
In addition, the slider has a structure tilted with respect to the surface of the recording medium when the head is lifted. For this reason, the minute aperture is disposed inclined with respect to the surface of the recording medium, and a part of the minute opening is recorded. It will be away from the medium. Since the near-field light intensity is exponentially attenuated with respect to the distance between the microscopic aperture and the recording medium, the portion of the microscopic aperture that is far from the recording medium cannot have sufficient interaction with the recording medium, and a sufficient signal can be obtained. There was a problem that strength could not be obtained.
Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of the above, and has a simple structure, reduces the distance between the recording medium and the head, controls the distance between the recording medium and the head, and starts and stops operation. The purpose of the present invention is to provide a high-sensitivity, high-resolution near-field optical head that reduces the contact area between the slider and the recording medium at the time and prevents the probe and the recording medium from contacting each other while the operation is stopped. To do.
In order to achieve the above object, a near-field optical head according to the present invention is supported by a suspension arm for applying a load load and obtains a levitating force by a relative motion with a recording medium, and the load load and the levitating force are obtained. And a probe that is formed on the bottom surface of the slider and generates near-field light or converts near-field light generated on the surface of the recording medium into propagating light. In the near-field optical head that records and reproduces information by the interaction of the recording medium and the probe via the near-field light when the slider scans the surface of the recording medium, the probe includes the probe It is characterized by protruding from the bottom of the slider.
Therefore, even if the distance between the slider and the recording medium is several tens to several hundreds of nanometers, the distance between the probe and the recording medium can be reduced to several tens to several tens of nanometers. Increasing the interaction with the recording medium enables high-sensitivity and high-density recording, and prevents contact damage due to the small contact area between the slider bottom surface and the recording medium when the head starts and stops. .
The near-field optical head according to the present invention is characterized in that in the first near-field optical head, the probe has a minute aperture.
Therefore, in addition to the first effect, the interaction between the recording medium and the probe can be caused mainly by light mainly composed of near-field light, and a high S / N ratio can be obtained.
The near-field optical head according to the present invention is characterized in that in the first near-field optical head, the probe is a minute protrusion.
Therefore, since it is only necessary to form a simple protrusion having no internal structure as a probe on the first effect, the probe can be created more easily and stably at a low cost.
In the near-field optical head according to the present invention, in any one of the near-field optical heads, the probe is housed on the slider bottom surface or inside the slider except during the information recording or reproduction, and the information recording is performed. Alternatively, a mechanism for projecting the probe in a predetermined amount or direction from the bottom surface of the slider during reproduction is provided.
Therefore, in addition to any of the above-described effects, it is possible to prevent damage to the slider bottom surface and the recording medium surface in each of the modes when the head is at rest and when the operation is started / stopped. In addition, a high-sensitivity head is realized by arranging the probe in parallel with the surface of the recording medium.
The near-field optical head according to the present invention is any one of the near-field optical heads, wherein a plurality of the probes are formed on the bottom surface of the slider, and the projecting amount and / or projecting direction of the plurality of probes is It is characterized by being set individually for each probe.
Therefore, it is possible to set the sensitivity for each probe in addition to any one of the above effects. One probe can be used for tracking or high-speed reproduction.
In the near-field optical head according to the present invention, in any one of the near-field optical heads, a mechanism for simultaneously controlling the projection amount and / or the projection direction of the probe and scanning the recording medium on the recording medium. It is characterized by having.
Therefore, in addition to any of the above effects, sensitivity, resolution, and the like can be controlled simultaneously with data recording / reproduction. In addition, since recording / reproduction can be performed even when the surface of the recording medium is uneven, high density can be achieved.
Further, the near-field optical head according to the present invention is supported by a suspension arm that applies a load load, obtains a floating force by relative movement with the recording medium, and obtains a floating force from the recording medium by balancing the load load and the floating force. A slider that creates a gap therebetween, at least one inverted conical hole formed so as to penetrate the slider and have a top portion that is a minute opening in the bottom surface of the slider, and a light emitting element or A light receiving element, wherein a distance between the minute opening and the light emitting element or the light receiving element is shorter than a thickness of the slider.
Therefore, even if the thickness of the slider is several hundred microns, the distance between the minute aperture and the light emitting element or the light receiving element can be reduced to several tens of microns or less, and the light intensity at the minute aperture can be increased. Thereby, a high sensitivity head is realized.
According to the near-field optical head of the present invention, the floating arm is supported by the suspension arm that applies load load, and the floating force is obtained by the relative movement with the recording medium, and the balance between the load load and the floating force is provided between the recording medium and the recording medium. And a probe formed on the bottom surface of the slider for generating near-field light or converting near-field light generated on the surface of the recording medium into propagating light. In the near-field optical head that records and reproduces information by the interaction between the recording medium and the probe via the near-field light, the probe protrudes from the bottom surface of the slider. Since the distance between the slider and the recording medium is several tens to several hundreds of nanometers, The distance to the recording medium can be reduced to several to several tens of nanometers, thereby increasing the interaction between the near-field light and the recording medium, thereby enabling high-sensitivity and high-density recording. When the head starts and stops, the contact area between the slider bottom surface and the recording medium is small, so that damage due to contact can be prevented.

Further, according to the near-field optical head of the present invention, in the first near-field optical head, the probe is a minute aperture. Therefore, in addition to the first effect, a mutual relationship between the recording medium and the probe is obtained. The action can be caused mainly by light mainly composed of near-field light, and a high S / N ratio can be obtained.
According to the near-field optical head of the present invention, in the first near-field optical head, the probe is a microprotrusion. Therefore, in addition to the first effect, the probe has an internal structure. Since it is only necessary to form a simple projection that is not required, the probe can be created more easily and can be stably produced at a low cost.

In addition, a high-sensitivity head is realized by arranging the probe in parallel with the surface of the recording medium.
Further, according to the near-field optical head of the present invention, in any one of the near-field optical heads, a plurality of the probes are formed on the bottom surface of the slider, and the protrusion amount and / or the protrusion direction of the plurality of probes is Since each of the probes is individually set, the sensitivity can be set for each probe on the basis of any one of the above effects. One probe can be used for tracking or high-speed reproduction.

Since a mechanism is provided, it is possible to control sensitivity, resolution and the like simultaneously with data recording / reproduction in addition to any of the above effects. In addition, since recording / reproduction can be performed even when the surface of the recording medium is uneven, high density can be achieved.

Even if it is 100 microns, the distance between the minute aperture and the light emitting element or light receiving element can be reduced to several tens of microns or less, and the light intensity at the minute aperture is increased. It is possible Kusuru, whereby high sensitivity head is achieved.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. Note that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments.
(Embodiment 1)
FIG. 7 shows the configuration of an information recording / reproducing apparatus using the near-field optical head according to
FIG. 1 is a schematic configuration diagram showing a near-field optical head according to

(Embodiment 4)
FIG. 4 is a schematic configuration diagram showing a near-field optical head according to

(Embodiment 8)
FIG. 8 is a block diagram showing a schematic configuration of an information recording / reproducing apparatus according to
