Abstract
Description
> 棒をバッグ内に置き、袋詰めチャンバ内部に室温で固定する。袋詰めチャンバ内の雰囲気を除去して、内部の圧力を1気圧未満にする。次いで、UHMWPEの棒を収容した各バッグをヒートシーラーでシールする。次いで、チャンバを大気圧に戻してから、UHMWPE棒を収容した各バッグを取り出す。各バッグの統合性を検査し、ラベルを付した箱内に包装する。
> 箱を照射施設に出荷する。
>放射線量を記録するための線量計を箱の外側に置き、棒を照射する。
>照射後、棒をバッグから出し、真空オーブン内に置いてフリーラジカルクエンチング工程を開始する。
>棒を加熱し、1気圧未満の圧力下で昇温してある時間浸漬する。
>次いで、棒を冷却し、より低い温度で、ある時間、1気圧未満の圧力下に棒を浸漬する。次いで、棒をチャンバから取り出し冷却ラックに置く前に、棒を冷却する。角棒の外側の酸化層も浸漬後に除去する。温度傾斜操作はすべて、埋め戻し操作後にアルゴン中で行う。
Claims (47)
- 整形外科用埋め込み体に用いる架橋されたUHMWPEベアリングを製造する方法であって、
架橋されたUHMWPEの塊から低分子量化合物を除去し、かつ
該架橋されたUHMWPEの塊を整形外科用埋め込み体に使用するように構成されたベアリングに形成すること
を備える方法。 - 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、前記ベアリングの形成に先立って行われることを特徴とする請求項1の方法。
- 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、前記ベアリングの形成に引き続いて行われることを特徴とする請求項1の方法。
- 前記形成は、前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊を、凸状連結面に係合するための凹状支承面を有するベアリングに形成することを含むことを特徴とする請求項1の方法。
- 前記形成は前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊を、凹状連結面に係合するための凸状支承面を有するベアリングに形成することを含むことを特徴とする請求項1の方法。
- 前記除去は前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊を加熱するとともに、前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊を1気圧未満の圧力下に置くことを特徴とする請求項1の方法。
- 前記除去は、前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊から前記低分子量化合物を流体で抽出することを特徴とする請求項1の方法。
- 前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊から前記低分子量化合物を抽出することは、前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊を液体と接触させることを含むことを特徴とする請求項7の方法。
- 前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊から前記低分子量化合物を抽出することは、前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊を超臨界流体と接触させることを含むことを特徴とする請求項7の方法。
- 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、分子量が約5,000以下である化合物を除去することを含むことを特徴とする請求項1の方法。
- 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、分子量が約300以下である化合物を除去することを含むことを特徴とする請求項1の方法。
- 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、炭素数が約20以下である化合物を除去することを含むことを特徴とする請求項1の方法。
- 架橋されたUHMWPE製の整形外科用ベアリング部品を備え、該架橋されたUHMWPEは分子量が5,000以下の脂肪族炭化水素を0.1%以下含有することを特徴とする埋め込み可能な整形外科用装置。
- 前記UHMWPEは。分子量が5,000以下の脂肪族炭化水素を実質的に含まないことを特徴とする請求項13の埋め込み可能な整形外科用装置。
- 動物の体内に埋め込むためのポリマー材料であって、該ポリマー材料はフリーラジカルクエンチング工程にかけられたポリマー材料の製造方法であって、
フリーラジカルクエンチング工程の後に該ポリマー材料から低分子量化合物を除去することを特徴とする方法。 - 前記ポリマー材料塊を滅菌することをさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項15の方法。
- 前記ポリマー材料から埋め込み可能なベアリング部品を成形することをさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項15の方法。
- 前記成形することは、前記ポリマー材料を、凸状の連結面と係合するための凹状支承面を有する埋め込み可能な部品に成形することを含むことを特徴とする請求項17の方法。
- 前記成形することは、前記ポリマー材料を、凹状の支承面と係合するための凸状連結面を有する埋め込み可能なベアリング部品に成形することを含むことを特徴とする請求項17の方法。
- 前記除去することは、前記ポリマー材料を1気圧未満の圧力下に置くことを含むことを特徴とする請求項15の方法。
- 前記除去することは、さらに、前記ポリマー材料が1気圧未満の圧力下に置かれている間に、前記ポリマー材料を加熱することを含むことを特徴とする請求項20の方法。
- 前記除去することは、前記ポリマー材料から前記低分子量化合物を流体で抽出することを特徴とする請求項15の方法。
- 前記ポリマー材料から前記低分子量化合物を抽出することは前記ポリマー材料を液体と接触させることを特徴とする請求項22の方法。
- 前記ポリマー材料から前記低分子量化合物を抽出することは前記ポリマー材料を超臨界流体と接触させることを特徴とする請求項22の方法。
- 前記ポリマー材料はUHMWPEを含むことを特徴とする請求項15の方法。
- 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、分子量が約5,000以下の化合物を除去することを含むことを特徴とする請求項15の方法。
- 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、分子量が約300以下の化合物を除去することを含むことを特徴とする請求項15の方法。
- 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、炭素数が20以下の化合物を除去することを含むことを特徴とする請求項15の方法。
- 整形外科用装置を形成するのに用いられるポリマー材料の生体適合性を向上させる方法であって、
該整形外科用装置を形成するのに用いられる該ポリマー材料から分子量が低分子量化合物を除去することを含むことを特徴とする方法。 - 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、分子量が約5,000以下の化合物を除去することを含むことを特徴とする請求項29の方法。
- 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、分子量が約300以下の化合物を除去することを含むことを特徴とする請求項29の方法。
- 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは、炭素数が20以下の化合物を除去することを含むことを特徴とする請求項29の方法。
- 前記除去することは、前記ポリマー材料から前記低分子量化合物を流体で抽出することを特徴とする請求項29の方法。
- 前記ポリマー材料から前記低分子量化合物を抽出することは、前記ポリマー材料を液体と接触させることを特徴とする請求項33の方法。
- 前記ポリマー材料から前記低分子量化合物を抽出することは、前記ポリマー材料を超臨界流体と接触させることを特徴とする請求項33の方法。
- 動物の体内に埋め込むためのポリマー材料を調製する方法であって、
該ポリマー材料を第1のチャンバ内に配置し、
該ポリマー材料が該第1のチャンバ内に配置されている間に該ポリマー材料をフリーラジカルクエンチング工程にかけ、
該ポリマー材料を該第1のチャンバから取り外し、該ポリマー材料を第2のチャンバ内に置き、かつ
該ポリマー材料が該第2のチャンバ内に配置されている間に該ポリマー材料から低分子量化合物を除去する
ことを特徴とする方法。 - 前記フリーラジカルクエンチング工程は、前記ポリマー材料を1気圧未満の圧力下に置きつつ、前記ポリマー材料を加熱することを含むことを特徴とする請求項36の方法。
- 整形外科用埋め込み体に用いるための架橋されたUHMWPEベアリングを調製する方法であって、
架橋されたUHMWPEの塊から分子量が5,000以下であるポリエチレン分子を除去して、該架橋されたUHMWPEの塊が、分子量が5,000以下であるポリエチレン分子を0.1%以下含有するようにし、かつ
該架橋されたUHMWPEの塊を整形外科用埋め込み体に用いるように構成したベアリングに形成すること
を備えることを特徴とする方法。 - 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは前記ベアリングを形成することに先立って行われることを特徴とする請求項38の方法。
- 前記低分子量化合物を除去することは前記ベアリングを形成することに先立って行われることを特徴とする請求項38の方法。
- ポリマー製整形外科用ベアリングを処理する方法であって、
該ポリマー製整形外科用ベアリングから分子量が5,000以下である化合物を除去することを特徴とする方法。 - 前記ポリマー製整形外科用ベアリングは架橋されたUHMWPEの塊を含み、かつ
前記除去することは、該架橋されたUHMWPEの塊から分子量が5,000以下である化合物を除去することを含む
ことを特徴とする請求項41の方法。 - 前記除去することは、さらに、前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊から分子量が5,000以下であるポリエチレン分子を除去して、前記架橋されたUHMWPEの塊が、分子量が5,000以下であるポリエチレン分子を0.1%以下含有するようにすることを特徴とする請求項42の方法。
- 前記除去することは、前記ポリマー製整形外科用ベアリングが1気圧未満の圧力下に置かれている間に前記ポリマー製整形外科用ベアリングを加熱することを特徴とする請求項41の方法。
- 前記除去することは、前記ポリマー製整形外科用ベアリングから分子量が5,000以下である前記化合物を流体で抽出することを特徴とする請求項41の方法。
- 前記ポリマー製整形外科用ベアリングから分子量が5,000以下である前記化合物を抽出することは、前記ポリマー製整形外科用ベアリングを液体と接触させることを特徴とする請求項45の方法。
- 前記ポリマー製整形外科用ベアリングから分子量が5,000以下である前記化合物を抽出することは、前記ポリマー製整形外科用ベアリングを超臨界液体と接触させることを特徴とする請求項45の方法。
