Abstract
Description
【0001】

【0007】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to novel 4,4 ″ -dihydroxyterphenyls. More specifically, the present invention has or does not have a lower alkyl substituent only on one terminal phenyl of the phenyl skeleton, and 4 The present invention relates to 4,4 ″ -di (hydroxyalkoxy) terphenyls substituted with a hydroxyalkoxy group at the 4 ″ -position and a method for producing the same.
Such 4,4 ″ -di (hydroxyalkoxy) terphenyls are useful as raw materials for various functional chemicals such as electronic display material raw materials.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, several compounds in which a hydroxy group is bonded to the 4,4 ″ -position of the terphenyl skeleton are known.
For example, JP-A-1-168632 and JP-A-2-212449 disclose 4,4 ″ -dihydroxyphenyl-P-terphenyl. JP-A-2002-308808 discloses 4,4 ″ -dihydroxy-P-terphenyls having a lower alkyl group only on the hydroxyphenyl group at one end of the molecule are disclosed.
[0003]
However, conventionally, there is no known compound in which a hydroxyalkoxy group is substituted at the 4,4 ″ -position of the terphenyl skeleton. Particularly when the alkoxy group is a medium to long chain, an ether bond is attached to the rigid terphenyl skeleton. [0017]
In addition, the other raw material, the halogenated hydroxyalkyl represented by the above general formula 3, is also used corresponding to the target 4,4 ″ -di (hydroxyalkoxy) terphenyls. As the halogenated hydroxyalkyl represented by the formula, one halogen atom capable of reacting with the hydroxyl group of 4,4 ″ -dihydroxyterphenyls is bonded to a chain saturated alkyl group having 1 to 24 carbon atoms. Yes, as the chain saturated alkyl group having 1 to 24 carbon atoms, the chain saturated alkyl group having 3 to 24 carbon atoms may be either linear or branched, preferably 2 to 2 carbon atoms. 20, more preferably 3 to 18 carbon atoms, and most preferably 4 to 12 carbon atoms. The reaction solvent is not particularly limited as long as it meets the above-mentioned purpose, and examples thereof include dimethyl sulfoxide, dimethylformamide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and the like. Among them, dimethyl sulfoxide is preferably used. .
Such a solvent is generally used in an amount of 50 to 3000 parts by weight, preferably 100 to 2000 parts by weight, with respect to 100 parts by weight of the raw material 4,4 ″ -dihydroxyterphenyls.
The reaction between 4,4 ″ -dihydroxyterphenyls and halogenated hydroxyalkyl is usually carried out in the range of 0 to 180 ° C., preferably 40 to 120 ° C. The reaction pressure is particularly limited. Although it is not a thing, it is normally performed under a normal pressure or pressurization.
[0022]
Under such reaction conditions, the reaction is usually completed in about 1 to 10 hours.
The desired 4,4 ″ -di (hydroxyalkoxy) terphenyls can be separated from the reaction mixture thus obtained by a conventional method and purified as necessary.
For example, to the obtained reaction product mixture, a diluent solvent such as toluene is further added and cooled to precipitate the target product, and then an aqueous acid solution such as phosphoric acid is added to neutralize the precipitate. Thus, a crude product of the target product can be obtained. If this is further purified again by a method such as crystallization filtration as necessary, a high-purity product can be obtained.
