画像形成装置システムに関して、給紙装置から搬送されてきた用紙の先端部を揃え、転写装置に搬送する装置において、一対からなるレジストローラが使用される。レジストローラは、用紙と直接接触するため、ローラ表面には紙粉が付着し易い。紙粉は、ローラの摩擦係数を下げ搬送力の低下を生じさせ、搬送タイミングのズレによる画質低下や、用紙詰まりの原因となる。また、レジストローラは、感光体ドラム間近にあるため、レジストローラから用紙に付着した紙粉が感光体ドラム上に移り、画像抜け等の印刷画質低下の原因となる。

図1において、給紙装置1から搬送されて来た用紙2は、搬送ローラ17の回転によりペーパガイド3、4により形成された用紙搬送経路に送られ、用紙2の先端がレジスト駆動ローラ5と、レジスト従動ローラ6のニップ点に突き当たり、突き当たった後も搬送ローラ17が一定時間回転を継続するため、用紙先端が揃い、用紙2の斜行が矯正される。その後、用紙2は、感光体ドラム7とのタイミングを取りながら転写装置18に搬送される。用紙が繰り返し搬送されるため、レジスト従動ローラ6の表面には、用紙から発生した紙粉8が付着する。
