Abstract
Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a magnetic disk apparatus, and more particularly to a technique effective when applied to a flying height control method of a flying height control type magnetic head slider.
[0002]
[Prior art]
According to a study by the present inventor, as means for realizing a high recording density of the magnetic disk device and a large capacity or a small size of the magnetic disk device, the radius of the magnetic disk of the recording / reproducing element is mainly used. Increasing the positioning accuracy in the direction, increasing the recording track density, reducing the flying height defined as the distance between the magnetic head slider and the magnetic disk, and reducing the distance between the recording / reproducing element and the magnetic disk recording surface, There is a method for increasing the linear recording density in the direction of rotation of the magnetic disk.
[0003]
For example, as a conventional technique for increasing the recording track density, in addition to a coarse actuator that performs rough positioning of the recording / reproducing element in the radial direction of the magnetic disk, a microactuator made of a piezoelectric body or the like is provided on the suspension for driving. Discloses a fine actuator system that performs minute positioning of a recording / reproducing element (for example, Patent Documents 1 and 2).
[0004]
In addition, as a conventional technique for stably reducing the flying height of the magnetic head slider and increasing the linear recording density in the magnetic disk rotating direction, a flying height control mechanism represented by a piezoelectric body is incorporated in a part of the magnetic head slider. A method has been proposed in which the distance between the recording / reproducing element and the magnetic disk is finely adjusted individually by moving the recording / reproducing element in a direction perpendicular to the magnetic disk surface (for example, Patent Document 3). Further, a magnetic head slider has been proposed in which a heat source is installed in the vicinity of the recording / reproducing element of the magnetic head slider instead of the piezoelectric body, and the flying height is adjusted by heating and thermal expansion of the recording / reproducing element (for example, a patent) Reference 4).
[0005]
On the other hand, if the flying height of the magnetic head slider is excessively reduced, the magnetic head slider comes into contact with the magnetic disk, and the magnetic head slider vibrates due to frictional force. When the magnetic head slider vibrates, it becomes difficult to perform stable recording and reproduction. Further, the frictional force causes wear of the slider protective film and the disk protective film. The wear of the protective film leads to corrosion and discharge of the magnetic head and the disk magnetic film, and becomes a serious problem for the reliability of the magnetic disk device. For this reason, in order to ensure the reliability of the magnetic disk device, it is essential that the magnetic head slider is not brought into contact with the magnetic disk as much as possible.
[0006]
Therefore, in order to reduce the flying height using the magnetic head slider provided with the above-described flying height control mechanism while maintaining the reliability of the magnetic disk device, the flying height adjustment value of the magnetic head slider is set to a desired value. Must be a value. As a technique for obtaining the flying height adjustment value of the magnetic head slider without impairing the reliability of the magnetic disk device, the above-mentioned

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the magnetic disk drive, the suspension supporting the magnetic head slider vibrates due to the movement of the magnetic disk in the radial direction by the coarse actuator and the fine actuator described above, and the flow of air due to the rotation of the magnetic disk. Whether the output signal of the piezoelectric body of the flying height control mechanism mounted on the head slider is simply monitored, is it vibration caused by contact between the magnetic head slider and the magnetic disk, or vibration caused by positioning in the radial direction? Cannot be determined.
[0012]
Further, when a heat source is used in the above-described flying height control mechanism, it is difficult to detect contact between the magnetic head slider and the magnetic disk because a sensor such as a piezoelectric element is not provided.

Then, it is determined that the magnetic head slider is in contact with the magnetic disk, and the flying height of the magnetic head slider is controlled by the flying height control mechanism.
[0017]
(3) The fine actuator has a function to generate an output signal in response to the vibration of the magnetic head slider, and analyzes the frequency of the output signal from the fine actuator to detect vibration components with frequencies other than the natural frequency of the fine actuator and suspension. In this case, it is determined that the magnetic head slider is in contact with the magnetic disk, and the flying height of the magnetic head slider is controlled by the flying height control mechanism.
[0018]
(4) In the above (1) to (3), the fine movement actuator has a piezoelectric element, and the output signal generated from the piezoelectric element is monitored or frequency-analyzed.
[0019]
(5) In the above (1) to (3), the fine movement actuator has an electrostatic drive element, and monitors or frequency analyzes the output signal generated from the electrostatic drive element.
[0020]
(6) In the above (1) to (3), the flying height control mechanism has a heat source, and the flying height of the magnetic head slider is controlled by this heat source.
[0021]
(7) In the above (1) to (3), the flying height control mechanism has a piezoelectric body, and this piezoelectric body controls the flying height of the magnetic head slider.
